What yall think of this series? i really liked this for real. But everything I seen online has been very negative Patreon Link for UNCUT Videos: www.patreon.com/Billyishere Next video dropping this saturday stay tuned! DRINK WATER
I really enjoyed it, and I am a big fan of the animation. Give the animation a shot. You won't be disappointed, The live action movie was crap though, I do not recommend. I also recommend the 'blue' AVATAR ;) Sokka is the comedy in the animation too, the situations he gets in are funny. Also Momo means peach in Japanese. And Roku means 6. Avatar is a word from the hindu religion/sanskrit, it basically means a vessel of the gods, as the gods would come in their 'avatars' to the mortal world. As you will see a lot of the inspiration derives from middle/far eastern cultures. Including the martial arts. For e.g. Waterbending looks like it uses Tai Chi movements.
Also fun fact the cabbage merchant is played by the actual actor who voiced him in the animated series also DO NOT ever watch the Last Airbender Movie it’s horrible
I’m actually glad you watched before the animated cartoon. It’s a different view I haven’t seen yet, you definitely should watch the cartoon after tho. Show is good, better if you haven’t watched the cartoon. But the cartoon is on another level. Plus they had to condense things for budget reasons so there’s a lot of differences.
@@BillyBinges Agreed -- Avatar: TLA is one of those series that people often wish they could watch again for the first time, and those types of things do super well as reaction videos. The timeliness will help boost it a lot. Please do, and do it a few episodes at a time like this!
@@BillyBingesMost of the comments I’ve seen on other RU-vid reactions have all pretty much mirrored my feelings, that this show is decent, definitely not as good as the original show, but it’s way better than any other hypothetical live action adaptation that someone like, oh idk, maybe M. Night Shyamalan might attempt.
Yes , Billy please go back and watch the animated series . It’s sooooo good. I felt a way about some of the casting/acting but the cgi and special effects with the bending were 👌🏾
Honestly? It'll be nice to see someone without nostalgia goggles on, reacting to this series as-is. The animated series is beloved to the point that comparison is inevitable for the Netflix adaption. So you being one of the few going into it blind, is cool! Also, your joy, by the end of episode 1 is such a mood XD
Dude I love this!!! Please do more!!! I was saying only a couple of days ago that we needed someone who hasn't seen the original to check out this new one because fans of the original are way too hard on it.
Fans are waaayy too nitpicky. I saw the animated first, loved it, then saw the movie too. I still loved it. Who cares about the differences with the original. I just enjoyed the bending and effects.
I LOVE NEW-WATCHERS/NEW-COMERS! WELCOME TO THE AVATARVERSE!!🔥 It'll be interesting to see an honest and unbiased reaction! Funnily enough, most haters are fans who are over-comparing with a CARTOON😂 Cause the cartoon is sooo good and BELOVED New watchers SERIOUSLY LOVE IT AND YOU WILL BE GAGGED
Please keep going with this live action first. You have a totally unbiased opinion that way, and it is refreshing to see. The live action had to try and get 20 episodes into 8 live action episodes, so some elements are combined, or re-ordered and your unbiased reaction to this is great to see.
I am so happy that you reacted to this. ATLA (the OG Nickelodeon series) is literally one of the best series I’ve ever watched. 💞 I also don’t mind the Netflix adaptation. It’s not bad but it is missing some elements to it but I still like it 🙌🏽
Really refreshing to see somebody enjoy the live action. Adaptations work best as an introduction and a way for new fans to start getting into the OG series. The fandom has been really disappointing and toxic lately, even going as far as shaming some of the child actors. On it's own it's a pretty decent series but a lot of people are really knocking it down without even giving it a try. I hope you do the rest of the show! I would even prefer if you don't watch the OG until after the entire series has been adapted as a live action cause I need somebody out there reacting to the series as a newbie 😅 (but the original really is great and I think you'll really enjoy it!)
I'm actually looking forward to seeing the reaction and opinion of someone not wearing nostalgic goggles. I grew up with the animated series and I love it but I was able to view this live action series with an open mind, which sadly many viewers of the OG series refused to do.
I saw that the overall reviews were pretty good so I think people have been trying to do shock value reviews. I really like the changes they made for this version tbh
I agree, many are very closed-minded and expected an exact replica of the OG down to the exact scenes. I saw someone complaining about the lack of accents like HUH?!
I watch avatar when I was 5, I never thought it would got an adaptation, also I think the majority of people that are complaining, are complaining that we didn't need it, it feels like if an animation gots an adaptation is like an award or something "you are better than other animations". Well, now. My problems with the show is not that is bad, it would be really goooood if was not base in anything previously done. My sister that I introduced her to avatar at 11, she is currently 14 and she doesn't even want to watch it the adaptation, she refuse completely. I don't think is something about nostalgia, is about capitalism and how we are just tired of seem something be translate into movie, serie, book, animation in many different way, it kind off lost its magic at some point. Just before you call me a hater of the live action, I have not even watch it, I am watching it along with him.
I love that you went into this blind. So many of us watched the animated series, so we went in making all sorts of comparisons. Seeing your pure excitement really put a new light on the series for me.
I finished binging the animated series yesterday after loving the Netflix show last weekend. I actually love both. The online hate is from the fandom that grew up with the OG and are having a hard time accepting the changes. But they fail to understand that twenty episodes of animation cannot be translated one-to-one into eight episodes of live-action.
They didn't have to limit themselves to 8 episodes Also the 8 episodes that they did make have the runtime of the original first season if I recall. Obviously they don't have to do it 1-1 but they changed some things fundamental to the original spirit of the show for seemingly no good reason
Highly recommend watching the animated version after this as it is waay better. But I'm really excited to see someone who hasn't seen the original react to this ✨️ as for the ages of the main trio, Aang is 12, Katara is 14, and Sokka is 16.
I love the live action series, glad you gave it the Billy treatment. As I was watching a lot of the scenes, I was going "That was HARD!" just like you. As a long time fan of the animated stuff, they changed just enough of the story to make it fresh, but all the characterization, kung fu effects, set design are just superb; they do justice to the original.
It's great to see someone else react to this series without having seen the animated version first! I'd never seen the animated show and decided to watch the live action first, which clearly was the best decision ever: it got me completely hooked on the story, the characters and the bending, I enjoyed it a looot and then I just jumped straight into the animated version. Of course there were differences between the two, and I obviously loved the animated show better, but I think the live action show still did a very good job of portraying the main parts of the story, then it was just even more enjoyable to discover the animated version and all the details and new little parts of their journey (nooo, I didn't already watch the entirety of the animated show, I don't know what you're talking about... ) I'll start the Legend of Korra soon, but otherwise Billy you should DEFINITELY watch the animated version too!
It’s actually really refreshing to see the reaction and comments of someone who hasn’t been introduced to ATLA so he’s seeing it with fresh eyes filled with wonder like we did back then. But definitely watch the animated series, Billy!! ✨
I’m seeing a lot of people say you should watch the cartoon which I wholeheartedly agree with. But also the blue people avatar was an absolute masterpiece as well in my opinion you should definitely give that a watch too. The sequel was stunning.
As someone who was this into the show as it was airing 20 years ago... watching a new generation be introduced to Avatar that wouldn't have sought the original out otherwise has been a source of great joy. Like and a sub, keep doing what you're doing. ❤
I'm actually super glad to see someone who hasn't seen the OG show's reaction! I grew up with the OG animated series on Nickelodean and watched the Live Action and I can honestly say I love both. It's cool to see an unbiased opinion lol
The air bison is Appa and the command to get him to fly is "yip yip." The actor who plays the uncle played a character called Appa in a show called Kim's Convenience, which is a popular Canadian comedy. The guy who plays Zuko did his own stunts because he is a world champion martial artist. His name is Dallas Liu. Look him up and watch him when he was ten. Lots of videos on RU-vid.
i have seen the animated series. although there are very important pieces missing, i very munch enjoyed the live action series. especially the bending and the attention to detail with the settings and animals (omashu, southern air temple, northern water tribe, the flying bison, all of it).
Honestly I really love the fact that you havent seen the animated show , alot of people saw the animation first and had preconceived notions on what this live action should have , and lets be honest live acton has alot more requirements to match up to a animation show so there will always be issues for serious fans . Billy learning the story from the live adaption is really awesome and cant wait to hear his thoughts. I truley enjoyed the live action and it wasnt as bad as fans complain about , I genuinely think they just hate on it because its not identical to the animation show ( theres no way it could without some serious money )
I’m a hardcore fan of the original, I’ve seen it more than 20 times and remember watching the finale in Middle School. Were there changes? Yes. Was I upset by a few of them? Yeah. Did I enjoy the show overall? Hell yeah. Especially on rewatch. I get to put the cartoon out of my head and instead focus on this adaptation where I can see the world of my favorite show play out on screen. Those who go in expecting perfection always set themselves up for disappointment.
Thank you so much for doing these reactions without seeing the cartoon first. The cartoon is GOOD, don't get me wrong, but it's coloring the reactions of so many other watchers and I've heard a lot of people say they only enjoy this series because of the animation, not letting the live action stand on its own. It's unbelievably refreshing to see someone enjoying it on its own merits and getting sucked in even with the different medium. Glad you're enjoying it, keep the content coming :D
I'm so hyped to see you go through this season, I love the new series but after this season you definitely need to watch the original animation because it's amazing. I think a lot of people are hating on the live action because it's not exactly the same but I think it's exciting to see the story told in a different light, the same exact story would be boring and predictable
Great reaction, Billy! As everyone else has been saying, it's so awesome watching reactors who HAVEN'T seen the toon first. I think that's the best gauge for how good the show truly is. I myself DID see the toon, but it's been yeaaaars and I don't remember details. I found this live action a great one, especially compared to the original theatrical attempt. I'm sure whenever I rewatch the animated I may get more nitpicky, but eh...for me, as long as the spirit of a thing is kept intact, I'm usually cool with it.
A couple things just to clarifyy, Aang was born the avatar the spirit passes from one avatar to the next when each former avatar dies like at the exact moment. Also, the firebenders were only able to defeat the airbenders (whom are pacifists and have no army or any fighting group) because the comet amplifies their power by 100% basically
I’m currently just 25 minutes into the video and I really really appreciate you for just being a vibe. On Twitter there’s a lot of negative feedback from those who didn’t give the live action a chance and those who did absolutely loved it. I know you going into this show blind without watching the animation and honestly I’m glad that you made that choice because your mind is clear and you’re not comparing the live action to the animation like how other reactors I’ve seen did. Thank you and hopefully you’ll see the animation soon because it’s just one of those shows that you see repeatedly and never get bored.
Billy!!! Please finish watching all 8 episodes And I highly recommend you watching the animated show. You don’t have to react to it but it’s definitely worth a watch when you have the time!
please watch the animated series!! this show had to cut a lot out due to time limitations and stuff, so i'd loveeee to see you react to the series and see all the stuff you missed in the show. the movie sucks in my opinion, but if you want to watch it too and compare it i think that would be fun. cant wait to see your first impressions of avatar the last airbender!! ps if you see the animated series there is a spinoff called the legend of korra which is the avatar after aang and her story.
The animated show is so good. I do think you should watch one and then the other so it would be really cool to eventually see you react to the animated series. Especially since it’ll bring a new perspective of someone watching the animated one AFTER the life action.
I love seeing someone who is fresh to the Avatar world totally be blown away 😭 this series, this world has shaped who I am as a person. It is so significant to my life, for real
The animated series will answer nearly ALL of your questions, any children i have will watch this show no exceptions. Its THAT good. Theres so many lessons, storylines, so much lore, and it explains brutal things about real life in a way for kids to understand and get ready for their future. Not to mention the comedy is S teir. They even had real martial artists to help them animate the fighting/bending scenes. Its AMAZING.
I'm super excited you're reacting to this. I'm looking forward to the perspective of a newcomer. I think you should totally check the original out. FYI... The different types of bending are based on fighting styles. So the choreography is very deliberate.
It’s actually really cool to watch someone react to the live action who hasn’t seen the original. It highlights the good that the show did without having the hang ups of comparing it to the original show and not liking the changes. I think both are great in their own ways, but comparing them gets messy
I wasn't sure about the first few episodes because of the differences from the animated show and some of the difficulties translating the humor and charm into live action. But then I started to see it as its totally own show and I enjoyed it a lot more. And as I watch the first few episodes again, they really are solid. They did a great job on this and really put work into it. I really enjoyed watching you react to this with no previous knowledge, super fun.
i am also new to this series and a few things ive learned from this adaptation: you got to remember this is set 100 years after the battle at the air temple so everyone u seeing after the first 15 minutes of the show are new people who were proably not alive to see any of this, the fire lord from the beginning was most likely the great great grand father of the current fire lord (zukos father), everyone from that time is more than likely dead or very old while aang is still 12 obviously from being stuck in that ice for an entire century. which also helps another plot point, i noticed some plot armor which is always a thing in action films BUT again this is set 100 years after the fall of the airbenders, so everyone who comes into path with aang usually gets pooped on because they have no experience with airbender, no one has fought one in over a century so it makes sense they would phase out those defense skills
Ive already watched the full first season , and it was really impressive! Im not to impressed with some characters, but most ive gotten used to! Also in the beginning when you said " i forgot this was an live action, and not an animated series" i felt you on the cause when i started the first episode i forgot too 😅 Edit: Im sure its not just me recommending this, but when you get the chance you should definitely watch the animated show!
This is what i like about live actions (good ones) , they bring new people for the fandom, and Avatar is an amazing cartoon/anime and the Netflix adaptation is doing it justice.
I'm so excited to see someone react to this who has NOT seen the original! There are so many people watching this who are so salty and bitter about the changes made from the animated series, so it's great to see such a fresh, unbiased perspective. The Netflix version works just fine as a stand-alone adaptation! It's not perfect, sure, but definitely fun and entertaining! Please continue with the season and then watch the animated series afterwards! 🙏
Would love for you to complete the series! It’s really refreshing & fun to see someone who has never seem Avatar watch this series. I’ve seen the cartoon & also love what they did with this live action series. It’s really special to see you experience the live action Avatar for the first time, not being able to compare the 2 versions & just enjoy it for what it is. If you eventually react to the cartoon after this, that would be awesome. And I gotta say, I love that this actor is playing Zhao. Professional villain for sure, ruining lives since Rush Hour 😂
Billy, I am so glad you're doing this especially since you haven't watched the original. As someone who watched the original, I really liked it. I hope you react to the rest of the season!
I love this series and reaction vid! The OG show is on another level but I liked how Netflix made this tv-show work. I really hope you continue these reactions because I love seeing someone watching this show without background knowledge!
Missed you billy, havent seen you in awhile cause you havent watched things I seen lol, so glad the channel is doing so well you deserve it, your so fun, and this series was great)
This is the first review I’ve seen that’s done by someone who didn’t watch the animated series first. It’s really interesting to view the live action from this perspective.
honestly as someone who has watched the animated show A LOT I wasn't too happy with this remake but watchin you enjoy it is actually enjoyable. It'll be cool watchin you watch the animated show.
I love the fact you're watching this before you watch the animated series. Your viewpoint isn't clouded by comparison. As someone who watched this and the animation, i loved this live action a lot. It's not perfect but its good. You'll definitely have to watch the animated series after this.
Airbenders earn the arrow tattoos when they officially become a master of the element. Aang was the youngest Airbender to be granted this title because of his natural raw talent, and he invented the air scooter technique (the move he used when he crashed into the statue on kyoshi Island trying to impress the kids)
Glad you enjoying it & not just trashing it cause of the animated series. It’s an adaptation & it well made & i got hooked too. I expect season 2 & 3 to be much better tho.
On the Avatar world, most of the animals are a mix of two different animals, like the Platypus Bear, its a bear but his head and tail are from a platypus
YES! You gotta watch the animated show! I do love the idea of this being different from those that have already been a fan and seen the animated show. ❤
Waterbenders can get cold, but they can also adjust the temp of the water (make room temp water boil or freeze, or turn ice into water) but the water benders we see here are just from the north and south pole, so they are well adjusted and dressed for the cold
I'm so excited that you're reacting to this! And glad that you haven't seen the animated series because you won't feel the need to compare everything. But you should definitely watch the animated series... And when you're finished with it all, definitely react to the old AtLA movie. You won't believe how horrible it is and I would LOVE to hear your commentary ♥ Also Sokka is ♥♥♥ both in the animated series and the Netflix live action
Honestly, I think it’s a great thing that you started off a story like this with the live action. You should definitely watch the animated series (reactions or not) because it’s definitely a masterpieces. I loved the live action too though!
This is the one I’ve been looking for. Someone who’s never watched it yet. Most RU-vidrs I’ve seen have already watched it and I don’t see any genuine reactions because they know what happens. Haha
