Atlanta, the hub of the southeast US has a lot of incredible restaurants, museums, history, and people. Here we go through tourist information for Atlanta. We focus on what tourists should not do when they visit Atlanta. Whether you are going to a Hawks, Braves, or Falcons game (or their favorite soccer team Atlanta FC), visiting the High Museum of Art in Midtown or just visiting Zoo Atlanta you should always have your southern manners on and don't forget to grab a Coke while you are there at the World of Coca Cola.

Our Gear:
We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

As a native Atlantan (yes, there are some of those; not everyone is from somewhere else originally), this video is pretty spot on. To give some context, Buckhead is north of uptown, but you CAN take MARTA there if you want! You just may need to do some walking and/or Uber/Lyft to where specifically you want to go. Important note about MARTA: If you take the train, make sure you know what line you need to take to get to your destination. Two lines run north-south: Red and Gold. Red goes from the Airport to North Springs (heads mainly north to Buckhead, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs). Gold goes from the Airport and eventually heads northeast after Lindbergh Station to Lenox (Mall), Chamblee all the way to Doraville (near something natives call "Spaghetti Junction." Basically, that's where Interstates 285 and 85 come together on the northeast side). Best times to visit? Typically, March-mid May (remember your allergy medicine) and late September-November. Late May-early September...it is hot and HUMID. Always humid during the summer. You will sweat A LOT. A/C will become your best friend. If you want to be outside during the summer months and haven't been, I highly recommend White Water, a water park off I-75 in Marietta (NW of Atlanta). It's very fun and a great way to cool off. It can be expensive to get in, but if you plan on visiting two or more times, buy a season pass. Pays for itself on two visits. A great thing for families with children of all ages. You will need a car to get there, though. Born and raised here, I love Atlanta and I would not trade my hometown city with any other. Come visit, eat, drink, have a great time and take in all you can. So much history and culture here. Great job on the video, Mark!

As someone who lives in Atlanta I think this video was great! Definitely agree with everything in it. I’d also add a couple things I haven’t seen other people mention: 1) the beltline was briefly touched on in this video but it’s absolutely one of the must do things if you’re visiting atlanta and have some time. If you walk down it there are great views of the city and great bars and restaurants to stop at. Usually events too 2) Piedmont park/botanical garden - also great views of the city, always events going on, and generally pretty. 3) restaurants - he definitely touched on the most famous/touristy restaurants here but I think there are better. Atlanta magazine puts out a list of the best restaurants and it doesn’t miss. Don’t be afraid to drive a little farther to go to one bc it will be worth it

Went to Atlanta for a work trip a number of years back (2011), and my wife tagged along. It had to be one of the best trips we ever went on. We were able to get around just using public transit, however we did have an issue with getting back to our hotel after visiting the Botanical Gardens. It was like the buses stopped running in that area. But the amazing southern hospitality worked in our favor, and the lady that was working at the gift shop gave us a ride back to the MARTA station.

Atlanta native here. He didn’t mention all the stunning suburban towns north of downtown. Metropolitan Atlanta (aka Metro Atlanta) is a monster land mass. It encompasses the beautiful Suburbs of Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Smyrna, Vinings, Virginia Highlands, I can go on and on and on, about all our Burroughs, each one with its own sub cultures, nightlife districts, residential neighborhoods, corporate districts, and recreational spots. Metro Atlanta is a beast, downtown alone is nothing compared to all the expanding areas I mentioned.

Oh and, forgot to mention, drivers in Atlanta range from aggressive to down right stupid, on the flip side, if you master our highway system without wrecking, consider yourself a professional grade driver, as I do myself. 😎 9 lanes of highway on each side of the i85 / i75 connector, and I glide through lanes as smooth as silk. Great video. I moved to Atlanta about four years ago from South Florida and I love it here. Traffic sucks of course but I try to avoid it at all cost. Just need to mention a few things. If you want to eat some of the best international foods in the city go to Buford Highway. You can find the best Vietnamese, Indoensian, Colombian, Central American, and more on this 7 mile road. Also if you want to find a good place to eat without hurting your wallet in Midtown, I highly recommend Eats near Ponce City Market. The new Braves stadium to a cool place to hangout and have a drink with friends. One of my favorite things about Atlanta is that you are really in the center of the South. NC,TN, AL, SC, and FL are all less than 4 hours away by car. Marta is decent I mainly use it to go to the airport from Doraville. Airport is very convenient and one can fly to most cities in the US. One last thing, if you can catch an Atlanta United soccer game in the beautiful Mercedes-Benz Stadium, that is the most awesome thing to witness in ATL.

Southern roads arent flat, they are angled for rain to run off. Which means if it ever snows/ices over its actually impossible to drive you will just slide off the road lol.
@Tanstaaflitis

That's pretty much standard road construction around the world. But Atlanta's climate makes freezing weather odd. The snow melts in the relatively warm roads. As temperatures drop, it freezes to ice. Once the tractor trailers cannot make it up the grades due to ice, everything shuts down. The 2014 event was so bad because the government insisted on keeping everything open and running--especially schools--until after the roads started freezing. Should've been closed at 6am that morning to avoid it, which is what they do now. BTW, today is the 6th anniversary of that event.

Yup, lived there's during Snowpacalipse. The whole city was legit shut down. There were really two instances like that in the past several years. I found a place to hangout during both. The Vortex midtown location was actually open during one of those snow storms. It was actually a lot of fun walking around a carless Atlanta lol

Driving in Atlanta isn't bad, just stay away from those Yankees north of I-20. Stay on the south side (especially I-85 south of the connector) traffic is *barely* a thing. Simply put, if driving do your research and know where to drive and when (or rather not on both). Coming from 30 years of Metro ATL resident.

For younger folks who actually want to go out Edgewood, Little Five, Poncey Highlands, and East Atlanta have some great dives and venues to check out local bands and comedians. I would also recommend venturing north to Buford Highway to get a more culturally diverse food experience. Monday night Karaoke at the Local on Ponce is lit. West Midtown has a lot of super trendy hipster restaurants and bars.

I've driven straight thru Atlanta on I-75 many times but hit it once during rush hour. Tbh I liked the bumper to bumper traffic, your not so afraid someone will run over you because everyone flies on that road. I quit taking the by pass many years ago when the city passed the law that trucks could only drive downtown if they were dropping off a delivery. Now the by pass is bumper to bumper with trucks.

Pro tip: skip the Varsity. It’s a tourist icon sure but really mediocre for the price. They market themselves as where Georgia Tech students go after football games and stuff like that but nobody local eats there. Also MARTA typically sucks but it’s great for getting to the airport or getting from Midtown to Buckhead, especially at rush hours.

If you are a Gone With the Wind fan, Margaret Mitchell's home is worth a visit. And yes to the driving. The traffic is so insane! My family got lost there at one point, and we wound up having to ask one of the locals walking down the street for help as we were driving. She then got into our car so she could literally point out to us where exactly to go and then got out of the car as soon as we found our destination. It was an interesting experience to say in the least, but let's just say I don't plan to do any more week-long road trips with many little stops along the way like my family loved to do. I remember getting so burnt out because we spent so much more time driving than really anything else.

For not living here this was an excellent representation. The only thing I would add is that when you visit anywhere, be respectful of our space. There are a lot of people who come here for events that just act completely reckless and make the commute of people trying to go to work much worse. I'm mostly talking to the people who live in the suburbs and get wasted on the train after a football game. Also, Sandy Springs is gorgeous. I've lived in Georgia my whole life and Atlanta for the past 6 years. I thought I would only like Midtown, but Sandy Springs is almost like the city meets the country. Look up Morgan Falls Stare Park.

Hey, Wolter! We absolutely love your videos and we are going to use them to plan our honeymoon in Germany next year. Next time you come to Atlanta you should check out Decatur Square. We aren’t far outside of downtown Atlanta, maybe 20 minutes with traffic. We have amazing restaurants, festivals, and entertainment. I would recommend checking out Kimball House for a date night, Grindhouse Burgers for a family friendly dinner with better burgers than you can get anywhere else in town, Cafe Alsace for the amazing food and service, and Antico Pizza for a fun time with family. It has been the closest experience to eating Neapolitan pizza in a trattoria I have had since I lived in Naples, Italy as a kid. Gio’s Chicken Almafitano is also excellent and if you go to the one in Midtown, there’s an awesome gelato/coffee bar right next door. You are so spot on with using Uber or Lyft. My fiancé and I do this to make our date nights stress free so we don’t have to hunt for parking. Thanks for visiting our city and happy travels!

When I was a kid, sometimes my mom would take my sisters and I to the Sundial for lunch, 'cause at the time the prices weren't that bad for the occasional treat and it was fun to look over the city while we ate. Then just a few years later they jacked their prices up and really seemed to be looking down on people dressed casually even at lunch (mom was bringing my youngest sister's little girl scout troop, and she made sure they were well-behaved). Just looking now....their dinner menu prices are like "maybe if I'm taking a partner there to propose?" 'cause I'm not made of money 🤣

Great video, I'm from just a tad bit north of Atlanta and these are pretty spot on, driving in particular. One big heads up if you do drive is pay special attention to trucks. We have a lot of 18-wheelers here due to close proximity to the busiest airport in the world and the port of Savanah. Truck drivers already have enough stress driving through 8 lanes of hell so be courteous to them. Also, be aware of pick-up trucks and muscle cars. They are some of the most aggressive drivers out there, particularly the pick-ups.

I’ve done all of these things you mentioned in your video. I live just outside the city and I’m practically a native. One thing I suggest is check out Truist park at the battery. It is a family friendly place and is great for both sports and non sports fans however you need to visit when baseball is not in season or there is an away game because if you visit during a home game. The parking availability is low and the grass area for watch parties will be crowded.
