Paul is out with his new friend Barrie Williams fishing the for Atlantic salmon on the Hampshire Avon. Within 10 minutes Barrie is into a fresh cock fish using a floating red and gold plastic Devon minnow presented on a paternoster rig with a 1oz lead.

My favourite fish, and a perfect example of it. Caught by my favourite method. The whole thing treated gently and well video-ed. Dang it, I'm so happy I can hardly find time to thank you. Thank you - that was great.

hi paul it's a little river but we catch a big fishs. Since a few years the salmon come again look in google "le saumon de brimeux", in pictures you can see old photo with a big salmon sorry for my english

Do you still fish the Avon, and can the shrimp be used on the river.

And to think that I've landed all my salmon by myself...I think I'm doing well in comparison to that netting job!! 🙄😂

Yeh, my perfect landing would be net parrallel to the rod, steer the tired fish over the net, lift. Way I was taught, and probably a good base, though other circumstances... I'd love to have learned tailing, and I'm glad gaffing had about gone out when I started. Beaching seemed impossibly romantic and unrealistic when I was fishing.
