Honestly, did any of you expect anything other than pure greatness from this episode? I am speechless... R.I.P. to our beloved Hange and to Floch as well. Her death scene was done the best out of all death scenes in this show without a doubt, it hurts so freaking much.
Eren gave his friends freedom to choose and he didn't take away their titan powers, he decided, he is not stopping unless they kill him. I have a feeling that Eren really wants to set up the stage for his friends to kill him and earn the respect of the world...

This episode was literally all i could ask for and more. Perfect adaptation. This was easily one of the most heartbreaking episodes but also one of the most beautiful ones so far in the show. The scene with Hange saying goodbye, sacrificing herself but then getting back up again from the help of Mobilit and the other scouts was beautiful. Also Floch dying felt like the last part of Erwin going away aswell. He was the only one who went in Erwin's footsteps and was willing to sacrifice everything for the people of paradis. Underrated character fr

I don't know why, but the scene of Reiner grabbing Zeke and they fighting in the air is stuck in my head, man! Pieck carrying the explosives, and I don't know if you agree but I am sure that Eren was controling Zeke, (bcs there's no way Zeke is helping Eren willingly) that's why the Beast Titan had those flesh cords on his nape, like the strings of a marionet, and maybe that's why he's with no colour and those empty eyes that Ymir had in past episodes. And dude, Hange's death really got me, I didin't believe that was gonna happen, I thought Levi would be the one dying and Hange the one who would survive in the end (better I shut up bcs he still may kill Levi), they brought back the OST from Season 1 Episode 19 as well. Rest in piece Hange Zoe, 14° Commander of the Scouts, and also RIP Floch, I told you this dude wasn't dead! I don't like the guy, but I loved his grownth and his role in the story, also the fact that his body was trampled by the Rumbling that he so much praised...
@MarkosAnimeJourney
@MarkosAnimeJourney Год назад
That's actually a really good point man, it has to be Eren that is controlling Zeke's titan. Hange's death was beautiful and so devastating at the same time, especially after she had that scene with Levi man, it's like whole AOT flashed before my eyes 😭 Also gj on the Floch guess, that was really impressive prediction!

Phenomenal. This episode blew me away. It felt like watching a cinematic masterpiece of a movie. Even after a decade, this show never ceases to surprise me. Hange was one of the OGs, I won't soon forget her. And Eren... boy, what a tragic character. That monologue about him being disappointed about learning about humanity outside of the walls, as if trying to create the world that he imagined in Armin's book: devoid of life, but full of mystery and wonder. I liked that they showed him as a child in this one, because out of the gang he's the only one who hasn't really matured past his childlike ideals. A slave to himself, revelling in some fantasy of 'freedom' that simply does not exist. And he became the monster to overcome monsters. He epitomizes the saying that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Yet the show has always highlighted how good people can do terrible things and I'm glad they emphasized it again. All in all, fantastic episode. There were a lot of touching moments, conversations, and shocking moments that I had expected in the closing section of this amazing ride of a series. Anyway, I always enjoyed your reactions and this one was no exception.
@MarkosAnimeJourney
@MarkosAnimeJourney Год назад
Very well said man, I really like that you mentioned that Eren always appears as his young version because he is unable to let go of his past ideals and trauma he experienced as a child. The same can be said for Ymir that was standing next to him, they both joined hands to release their hatred upon the world. Also, you are freaking genius, I remember that we were discussing Falco's titan form and you mentioned that there's possibility that he would be able to fly, like Griffin, it seems like we almost got confirmation in this episode.
@kayskreed
@kayskreed Год назад
@@MarkosAnimeJourney Yes, Ymir and Eren are very much one and the same. That's so true. On a side note, it makes me question what role Zeke will have in the finale if any. Was that even Zeke we saw, or Eren's Warhammer ability channelled trough Zeke's form? Is Zeke even aware of what's going on. I can't imagine that he'd be down for what Eren is doing since it pretty much went against his entire philosophy. Maybe he's being as a tool and is under Eren's full control. And would killing him even matter at this point? It seems like even without Zeke - say, if Levi and the Scouts succeed in taking him out - nothing would drastically change, since Eren and Ymir have gone rogue, not at all interested in obeying those with royal blood anymore and what not. Eren set Ymir free, remember? And yet Eren and Ymir, as you pointed out, remain slaves to their hatred, and now they're obviously completely out of control. Wouldn't that be cool? Man, I am eager to see what Falco, Gabi and Annie's role will be in all of this. The show has dropped us many hints at flying titans especially this past season, be it the round table discussion with the Marleyan general and the military in S4 when he asked whether Marley had any 'flying titans', almost sarcastically, to that weird vision of the giant bird when Eren and Zeke made contact. We know that the Beast wasn't always a 'monke', the S2 opener kind of confirms that for us. If that turns out to be to case, I imagine an epic cavalry charge when Gabi and Falco finally show up. I am curious to see if Annie will go along with it and what her role will be. I didn't fully understand that bit about her power to 'manifest'. Copying titan abilities, like Zeke's roar? I know she had a scream and hardening, but I thought those were her titan specific abilities and not copied from another source. Maybe that means she can manifest some of Eren's power/abilities as well. Remember that strange scene at the end of S1 when Eren and Annie's titans were both fusing? Why did that happen exactly? I am still puzzled about that. Was she unconsciously trying to steal Eren's abilities in that moment? Has she retained anything since? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
@Italo-Mateus
@Italo-Mateus Год назад
When the Rumbling is happening in the begining we can see some familiar places in Liberio, like the tends of Namzi's people, Annie's house, the walls of the interminent zone and the most obvious ones, the hardening shells of the Warhammer Titan of the battle in Liberio and Helos statue... We see Eren's grandparents in a cell, because of Zeke's betrayal, presumily they were killed, I've heard that this part wasn't in the manga, Isayama probably forgot aboutt hem, that's why he said earlier that the real version of AoT is the anime, bcs if he forgets something in the manga or wanna add something, he has the anime to do it.

What a rollercoaster of emotions.. Contender for the best episode of the series, if it can even be called a contained episode. The last 20 sec of Hange vs the colossals was easily the best animation Mappa has done on this show. What a fantastic scene, and everything up until her death was in true Hange fashion. The Rumbling scene was pure dread.. It was even worse than i could've imagined. The juxtaposition of Eren apologizing to Ramzi while we see him and his brother getting trampled nearly made me sick. Yūki Kaji is just an inhuman VA, as proven once again. I could go through 10 minutes worth of reading material just stating the things i loved about this episode, but i'm exhausted from having seen the episode even through the reaction. I just want to point out what I think is the most genius use of symbolism by Isayama in this episode: how Eren and Ymir both appear as children as they commit the rumbling. Both of them grew to be adults, so why are they manifesting as children? Because they are both still lost in the trauma they endured as children, Eren losing his mother and Ymir being enslaved. They are both unable to move past that trauma and have joined hands to unleash that anger upon the world. In a word, they are still slaves. Adult Eren is unable to cope with the rumbling, so he reverts to his childlike mindset to blind himself to the magnitude of what he's done. Which is why I love Armin asking Eren, "What about you is free?" The part where Eren and Armin diverge is in how they respond to what the outside world really was. Eren wants to wipe it all away. Armins wants "to believe there's still a world we don't know about yet out there, beyond the walls." He wants to believe there is a place and time where people can be kind to one another and solve problems not be violence. He keeps believing in a better future. As Hange said, "It might be hopeless today, but maybe someday..." That's what being a Scout is all about. For this reason I absolutely love the speech by the Marleyan Admiral, which I consider the thematic climax of the story. Everyone realizing at last the consequences of their prejudice, selfishness, and ignorance this episode. This show really makes me take a step back and consider how I've done poorly at considering other people's perspectives, which is amazing. Also, I realized that chronologically, Eren asks Mikasa, "Why do you care so much about me? What am I to you?" right after we confessed all this to Ramzi. When he asked Mikasa that, he was searching for a reason because he just admitted to himself and Ramzi that he's the most vile, selfish person in the world. He couldn't fathom in that moment that someone would love him the way he is. You had me rolling talking about Erwin being in love with Annie if he inherited the Colossal xD. I was not expecting that but that segment of your review was hilarious
@MarkosAnimeJourney
@MarkosAnimeJourney Год назад
I was waiting for your comment and you just blew my mind with young Eren and Ymir, that makes sooooo much sense man! Mikasa and Eren talking happened after the scene with Ramzi is also something I didn't connect and I forgot that Ramzi doesn't understand a word Eren was saying because of language barrier... Armin as always being optimistic and seeking route without violence and believing that world can still be beautiful... Freedom always had a different meaning to those two and Armin is asking Eren the right question. Man, finale is going to be so damn emotional for sure.
@Dracossack.
@Dracossack. Год назад
Haha thanks man! It’s always fun to discuss these shows with you. Yeah the part with Eren only confessing his true feelings to someone who can’t understand him is definitely interesting… it’s pretty much just him admitting all this to himself. What’s also interesting is the talk about the future being set in stone by his memories. At any point he could have chosen to do something different, but he never did, so the future he saw stayed the same. It’s the ultimate irony: the future never changed, because Eren never changed. I just wish we didn’t have to wait a few months for the last part 😢

Mr. Ksaver being a sheep wasn’t ever stated, it was just a theory of mine that I commented about based around the Chinese/Japanese zodiac animals, the personality traits supposedly exhibited by people with those signs, as well as the fact that we saw a monkey stuffed animal in a Zeke flashback and a sheep/ram stuffed animal when Ksaver was remembering his dead family, plus in some art in a book about The Great Titan War there appears to be either a dog or a horse titan (it had a tail, so not the cart), both of which are zodiac animals. Also, that may look like the Beast Titan throwing stuff, but it sure as hell isn’t Zeke. That’s some Founding + Warhammer shit, Zeke would most likely be on the same side as the gang trying to stop Eren and not wanting to kill him.
@MarkosAnimeJourney
@MarkosAnimeJourney Год назад
That theory was pretty impressive and Mr. Ksaver exhibits sheep personality traits according to Chinese/Japanese zodiac for sure! You are right about Zeke, the fact that he is connected through that cable thingy and is all white is very suspicious. Greetings Marko, I'm glad you enjoyed the episode as much as I did. There are many things that I want to talk about, but I will only mention something about Eren, and it's just that he's always been selfish to me, I mean, even when he says that what he does is for his friends, he never considered their opinions and the only time we see him talk about his deepest intentions, it's with a kid who doesn't even speak the same language.
@MarkosAnimeJourney
@MarkosAnimeJourney Год назад
Hey man! The episode was amazing! I don't really consider Eren selfish, saving someone's life as a 9 year old is everything but not selfish imo. He also opened up to his friends when they were all blushing, when he said that he wants all of them to live long lives and that they are the most important to him. I think it was episode 10 of S4. What Eren is doing in S4 can be seen as selfish for sure, but he's purposely doing it because he perhaps thinks his friends cannot change anything as he already saw what the future holds and doesn't want to burden anyone with it.
@talo131
@talo131 Год назад
@@MarkosAnimeJourney That's a good point. I feel that Eren's actions are always extreme, and that's why I find it selfish, but I also feel that being such a passionate person, he gets carried away by his own nature, having good intentions but many times with negative consequences (just one example : when Thomas dies in season 1, Eren breaks the formation, causing the death of his squad).
@MarkosAnimeJourney
@MarkosAnimeJourney Год назад
@@talo131 Yeah, Eren was always reckless, that's for sure. He was always acting on emotions and I believe that in one of the OVA's, Mikasa said something along the lines that he is always going forward in front of everyone and that nobody can stop him no matter what. I believe it's Lost in the cruel world OVA. Hannes also had an amazing speech about him in S2 EP8, he was talking about how he is always charging in no matter how many enemies there are, when they were kids. He also said that it's almost scary how tenacious Eren is.

Probably the biggest thing we can get out of this episode is that Eren isn't an emotionally stunted psychopath who doesn't care about the destruction he leaves behind in his way. The truth is he does care which makes it even worse for him. We already know just how much guilt Reiner carried for all the horrible things he did but that's nothing compared to what Eren's doing right now. What's even more horrifying is the implication that Eren wanted to do the Rumbling not just for the sake of Eldia or his friends but for reasons that are far more selfish. He was disappointed that the world was filled with people who hated his kind. Hell, the very fact that humanity exists outside the walls goes against his childhood dream of an empty world. Life beyond the walls was nothing like the world he had dreamed of, the one he had envisioned through Armin's book. Through the rumbling, he was able to achieve his childhood dream of being free but not without a cost. Eren has become so broken inside that he can't even enjoy the freedom that he so desperately yearned for all this time. So much so that he had to regress into a childlike state, clouded by judgement and completely oblivious to the horrors below him, to truly appreciate it. He was never able to accept the world he grew up in and thus his innocent dream mutated into something far more twisted and horrifying and the result is what we witnessed in front of our screens.

What a show! Si h a masterpiece ❤I was waiting for your reaction and I so agree with your analysis of characters motivations. As you said they all have valid reasons and Eren also has valid reasons to do what he is doing. The author described perfectly the human nature throughout this story, there is a dark side in each of us, we do what we can to fight it because I believe that most of us want to do what is right while surviving in a cruel and unfair world.

I don't believe for a second that Erwin and the other fallen would have supported the traitors who betrayed their people and who send humanity inside the walls to annihilation except in the delusions of the wobbly scenario of Isayama. By the way, even on the verge of death, the only thing Floch thought about was saving his people/island and prevent them from suffering genocide but some brainwashed people talk about extremism ? Glory to traitors & RIP Commander Floch.
@MarkosAnimeJourney
@MarkosAnimeJourney Год назад
There's a reason why they had to kill off Erwin so early. Narratively it was the perfect time and place, him giving his life for humanity just when he was about to achieve his dream was poetic. Still, I think that things would probably be different considering how smart and experienced of a leader Erwin was, always thinking few steps ahead. I even think personally that he would unite all the fractions into one, working towards the same goal instead of the chaos that was happening on Paradis in s4 part 1. There's a pretty good chance that Eren would actually talk and cooperate with Erwin and the others. The one thing I'm not sure about is what would he think of Rumbling, could he come up with something else that would help Paradis? I guess we'll never know but I'm sure he is still proud of Hange for trying her best and still doing what Survey Corps was created to do, to help humanity. He was never known for patriotism but rather for his curiosity and seeking truth about the outside world.

Are people who possess the Founding Titan kind of haunted by Ymir and made kind of crazy from her desire for revenge? Is that why the King attached to it a Vow against War?
@MarkosAnimeJourney
@MarkosAnimeJourney Год назад
In that case King Fritz would be an exception which would bring up even more questions. I don't think that's the case personally, but when it comes to Eren it certainly amplified his hatred because Ymir was enslaved in Paths for 2000 years. He was the only one who treated her as a person and gave her a choice rather than all the previous users with royal blood who only wanted her powers and wanted her to stay in the Paths.
@FluxNomad678
@FluxNomad678 Год назад
@Marko's Anime Journey Maybe Fritz being an exception isn't a problem? He may have received the Titan as both an adult and ruling King. If he had prior knowledge from his family of this subtle influence of Ymir, maybe he could be prepared to address it in this way. Or maybe he applied the Vow for any other reason, but it became a check on Ymir nudging hosts of the Founder to lash out. I think Eren is also an exception as he seems ensared by 'Memories of the future' and is almost in a paradoxical situation being manipulated. I mean he influenced Grisha, but was he himself influenced in a subtle but similar way, and being less mature then Fritz more susceptible?
@MarkosAnimeJourney
@MarkosAnimeJourney Год назад
@@FluxNomad678 It's really interesting to think about. As far as we know, he was sick of Eldian Empire domination and decided to go to Paradis. If Ymir's influence works similar to the Vow, it's almost certain that he would be affected by it as well, even with the prior knowledge. Rod Reiss and his brother Uri were opposing their father, but once Uri ate his father and gained Founder, he changed and bowed down to it. That's why Rod was later afraid to be the next holder. As for Eren, it's not like he can see the future, he has ability to send memories back in time because he is the last Attack Titan, there's nobody after him as Ymir is now free. He influenced each previous Attack Titan holder in order for that power to end up with him. You can say that he kinda accidentally "cheated" and saw the future when he kissed Historia's hand, but those were actually Grisha's memories during which he was getting the memories that future Eren sent him. Basically Eren seeing his future self sending Grisha those memories and learning about the future that way and hence why after S3 we see a completely different Eren.
@FluxNomad678
@FluxNomad678 Год назад
@Marko's Anime Journey The Eren thing is confusing. He saw Grisha's memories of his future self. I wonder Ymir affected Grisha or both when Eren was memory traveling in the coordinate with Zeke. Or if Zeke getting Eren in the coordinate intensified that connection and influence. As for Rod Reiss, I wasn't sure if he somehow knew he would become an abnormal, or if licking the fluid instead of injecting in the spine corrupts the transformation.
