What a great setup. So good that I will probably steal you idea! To be quite honest, you went clearly overkill with those hurricane straps at the top lol. Those hangers on both side of your 2x6 will clearly be tough enough. Better safe than sorry though, hats off to you and good job! Thanks for sharing!
Amazon didn’t have it for awhile. Looks like it’s back and price increased dramatically. Link below. Winholt 300-48D / PU U-Boat Diamond Steel Deck, Utility Cart with Polyurethane Cen... www.amazon.com/dp/B013HWG0X8/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_EeoaBbG5TR4Y5
Thank you. one last question, did you weld the rod to the socket or have it done. was it hard to make sure it was perfectly aligned if you did it? thank you again
How did you remove the spool from the motor? I removed the red housing from the motor, but cannot seem to be able to free the motor shaft from the cable spool.
Nathan, one of the best solutions I've seen - way to go! Could you tell me the name of the cart? I heard it as U-Bow but could not find one searching at Amazon that way. Thanks.
Great idea and I want to build one. I cut a hole in the garage ceiling and bought the hoist. I have a problem. How do you get the cable pulley off of the hoist to weld the socket on? I don't want to bust something trying to get it off. It doesn't slide off. I tried prying it off. No go. I also tried an air impact wrench on the 16 mm hex nut on the pulley but it won't budge in either direction. I'm stuck. Thanks Les
That thing is hotter than balls, Nate (my new catchphrase). The only thing better than the actual info you provided was the cussing; I had to watch it a second time just to hear "Christamas shee-at" and of course my favorite "hotter than balls." I just subscribed to your channel in the hope that you'll make more videos - quite honestly I don't care if they're tutorials on proper installation of garbage bags in garbage cans just so long as you keep being you. Aces, my man. Aces.
Nathan, very cool & thanks for posting. If you don't mind, what motor from HF did you use &/or what HP & RPM is it? I see they have an AC winch and a few electric motors all of which seem to be 1800 RPM which seems like it'd have to be geared down. I don't see any motors that look like the one you used.
Never mind, I just found them under electric hoists. Looks like you went with the 2000# one rather than the 800# one. I'm building a Unistrut track system to lift things anywhere in a 10'x23' space. I don't think I'll be lifting more than 250-300lbs so think I'll go with the smaller one. Thanks again for posting this; definitely helped me figure out the lifting mechanism!
Looks like Amazon doesn’t have the cart anymore. The following link is the exact cart I used. www.webstaurantstore.com/winholt-300-60d-pu-u-boat-16-x-63-heavy-duty-utility-cart-with-diamond-steel-deck-and-polyurethane-wheels-2000-lb-capacity/96230060DPU.html
If you look. The motor does not have the plywood behind it. When I was putting all this together, the garage door mounts needed to be flush with the motor drive to align with the shaft. The plywood pushed them out enough to align. Hope this helps.
Nathan, question, I have the hoist and removed the original cable reel, how did you punch out the hole in the end of the hoist housing to get the sicket and garage rod thru it?
@@nathansteele287 Nathan, you will have to cut out the shaft if ever need to replace the motor. i am doing the same as your design (THANKS), with exception of using a deep socket over the hex (18mm). and allowing enough room to slide the motor back from the shaft to free it. (need about 1.5 inches). Weld the socket to the 1 inch drum shaft..
I don't think welding is necessary for that kind of platform, even wood does the job. I don't know what weight people are planning to lift, and better save than sorry I guess for some. But if industrial warehouses can use wooden frames and platforms, your attic elevator will do just fine.
