Man I am so glad I found your video. I cannot for the life of me find out why people don’t mention those clamps that you removed from the boot. Cannot find a single video until yours. The funny thing is that clamp style came with my boot kit for my 2014 corolla and had no idea how that clamp worked. Thank you so much. It was a lot simpler than I thought. When I saw you do it, I was like “wait, seriously?!?!” Happy thanksgiving !
Thank you sir, My Subaru centre diff bearing decided to die just in time for our lockdown. So all the Subaru people not working for a warranty repair. Got new part off ebay from Germany, delivered to Aberdeen Scotland in less than 24 hrs. Only thing was stuck with was how to install these clamps you show. Thank you so much for your vid, as simple as a pair of pliers. I was thinking some super special tool may be needed lol. That's what the panic of my car breaking down just when it's most needed does to rational thinking. Thanks to you I can now do a sterling job. Stay healthy
Thanks!! for this clamp release information. 2014 BMW R1200GSA WC has same type of clamp on the air intake rubbers at the throttle bodies. I destroyed one trying to get the bugger released. Now I see. Thank you to the Instructor. Cheers!
I am about to replace a cv boot on my Polaris sportsman 500. At first I was concerned about how in depth this was going to be, but I feel much more confident now thanks to your very comprehensive video. Thank You.
groutaone that is an awesome video. You just answered the 3 main questions i had in my head. Im fixin g to be doing some axle work on a 1995 gmc sonoma 4x4 4.3 vortect. the front axle is broke and the differential is broke. the transfer case turns the driveshaft but the front wheels wont pull. and i have always messed with ford and never GM so im in a whole new ball park. Even tho ur vid was on an ATV axle... it looks very very similar. THANX again.
I have seen a lot of videos on youtube and you have made a awesome work on ithis one!!! Superb masterpiece. I would watch a complete piece by piece of a complete atv parts on your channel
Thanks for showing how to get the clamps off, im going too try this for my car and was having a hard time getting them off! I'll let yall know how it goes.
Thats awesome great to hear, some CV joints have a lock ring under the the joint itself, those cv joints have to be forced off, I prefer the outer snap ring setup like in this video
i dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I would love any help you can give me.
interesting! never messed with anything with cv joints in it much before, my 1994 Cadillac Eldorado is the only thing i ever had that really needed them and i sold it before having to buy and install the new joints so i missed out on all that fun
Great Video I have the rear outer C V joint out and noticed heat marks on the outside of the steel at each of the ball bearing locations. Is this normal and how do I determine if the C V joint is bad?
over here they use lots of those stretch cv boot. You can put those on without removing the cv from the axle. I like those because on most cars its harder then this to remove the cv joint from the axle. But thats what i like about volvo, the have the best system there is on there >99 v70 and s60. If you put a longer bolt in there and you keep turning it you will just pull the cv joint of the axle. So you just get the clamp on the axle side of the boot, and then just put a bolt in and turn
Yes if it's an internal snap ring then it will have to get knocked off, you could use a pipe that slides over the axle then with the cv end up and the axle inside the pipe just let it drop on something heavy and hard like a concrete floor, floor may get some damage though
Make sure both cv boot and the cv itself is dry from grease before sliding the new boot , big mistake I did and it came off after couple hours of driving. Also I wanna know how much grease it should be there I got a new boot and it has 3 sachets of grease ?
great video. My inner boot on the front axle of a 2009 500 does not have the indent to access the c-clip/ring. Not sure how it is secured in place. any help is appreciated.
Hi there, I just finished replacing a cj joint on my old 98 kingquad 300. I got i all together untill it came to the clamps on the boots. The metal clamps were a pain to tighten and i sliced my hands all to pieces. After a while, I got fed up and called my personal mechanic. He said that they use heavy duty metal zip ties. I never thought of that, the next day i bought some and got it all together. guess what happened next? the metal zip tie wouldnt clear the hub.
If given a choice I'd rather have this style than the ones that are smooth and use the wind up tool. But sometimes you don't have a choice. The other ones work but are trickier.
