Great vid. Had exact same issue on my 2013 A5 2.0 tfsi at around same miles, took to garage (not dealer) and had to cough up £1700. This was in 2019 and tonight it looks like it's done it again, engine temp reading zero after long drive, coolant below minimum and fans on full whack. Just ordered the part and will have a go myself this time thanks to your vid

I’ve watched many “how to fix…..” for my 2013 VW Tiguan as I cannot afford a shop visit as well as I get a sense of accomplishment and pride when I complete a problem with any of my vehicles currently and it previously. And I must say - this is the best video I have ever watched. It is the most enjoyable informative; most explained; most easy to understand and most importantly most easy to follow step by step showing of any process … that I have watched thus far. I’ll go even further than just videos for Volkswagens and I will say out of any video for any car repair I’ve ever watched and I 100 percent appreciate that. This you tube channel / person is going to the top of my favorite list and I have no doubt that my coolant leak problem will be solved and fixed by yours truly by the end of the week. Thanks to this video.

Hi! any drawback(s) taking off intake manifold versus Dave method?
@jameselrick6698
@jameselrick6698 Год назад
@paralelmind from trying it Dave's way, I'd recommend the intake manifold take off over fiddling with disconnecting pipes and having a small space to take off and replace the pump. Removing the manifold, you can just take off a few screws and belt and just pop the thing off w/o the need for removing the tire or removing the boost pipe.

Dave, I wanted to say thank you. I spent three days looking for information on the 2017 Audi A4 B9 water pump and thermostat system. I found nothing. Everything seemed to be geared towards B8s. So armed with what I thought was sound advice I purchased a new pump and want to work Saturday installing it. Only to find that did not solve my engine coolant low flow fault. Plus the bottom hose never gets hot, despite having flow into the top of the overflow bottle. I now believe, especially after your video it must be the thermal management unit. So $450 from the local dealer and I will be replacing that tonight. Not sure how I found your video, but thank you for the in-depth information.

My Audi TT 2015 loses half of the expansion tank coolant in 3 months. However no traces of any significant “crystallisations” and white stains on the engine parts from the leaking coolant. The compression test was good. Which makes me think that the leak is slow/small and steady. Probably the fluid evaporates.

Toilet break 🤣 Done a similar module on a transverse engine A3, not for a leak though, for an overheat at cruising speed condition. The motor that moves the ball valves has a wee brass pinion that had fallen off ! I didn’t take that wee left hand thread bolt out, I was worried that I could make the timing chain jump by cranking on that bolt. I used an INA part too. Could see where the Audi logo had been buffed off it after it was moulded.
@davesterl

Yeah Russell, i didn't fancy the risk of the chain jumping either. Shouldn't do so cos i think the pump shaft is on the non-tensioned side. Good find on the brass pinion

My Q5 is having coolant loss for the last 2 years. Audi changed the water pump, coolant tank, radiator, some of the hoses and didn't solved the issue. Went to another audi specialist workshop. They replaced radiator, coolant tank, more hoses. Nothing got resolved. Coolant only last about 7 weeks. I am from a tropical country. Seems like no one can solve this.

So ill be getting a new piece and will also get the expansion bottle and cap changed at the same time... These are also known to fail.. Do you think that the unit could be repaired? These cost 350-400€ plus labour.. my plan is to buy a new one and keep the old if i can fix it.. - as a future back up, although hoping the latest version is free of problems..

Got in my 2018 A5 yesterday AM and got the scream of death warning, so shut down immediately. Upon inspection coolant tank was almost empty! All I had was the green stuff so filled it with that and got on the road. Looked tonight and saw no spray marks, no smell of coolant burn, only saw liquid pooling in front just past radiator on drivers side. Researched a bit and saw a recall for some years for bad water pump, symptoms coolant loss and if you don’t catch it in time catastrophic engine failure of course. Thoughts, help anyone???!!!

@jameselrick6698
@jameselrick6698 Год назад
To get access to the boost pipe, you'll have to remove the lower cover under the car, and remove part of the left side plastic covering where the left wheel was. Then you'll have to use either a 8 inch ratchet, or wrench and just start unwinding the hose clamp on the radiator and the one next to the throttle body. Unfortunately, you'll have to fit your hand in a tight spot to reach the radiator hose clamp, but when it's loose enough you can just pull it off from both ends. Finally, you'll have to angle the pipe and resonator out of the side you opened up.
