Lol my A4 is from Charlotte, NC bahaha. Unfortunately not a S-Line. It's a 2.0t Quattro. I agree with the comment about the B7's!! I'm definitely looking forward to doing this swap as well!! I'm definitely going to turbo it. I'll probably use my TD05 off my turbocharged 89 Jeep Cherokee (XJ).

this is a pretty sweet build! I have been considering this myself in my B8. I'd like to see more on the accessory brackets and transmission adapter. thank you for sharing

Thanks! There’s more videos on my channel but they are a little scattered but there is one specifically on the accessory brackets. I’ve been working through issues with starter mounting with effects adapter plate so haven’t posted in a while because I just recently came up with new design. I hope to post more videos soon.

Thanks! I made a canbus bridge to fully replace the signals normally sent by the ecu: tach, coolant temp, engine load (for ESP) and so on. I have a short showing the gauge cluster working but don’t have a detailed video on the canbus bridge. The only thing missing is cruise control. B8 A4 / A5 will be the next step after the B7 is finalized, which will hopefully be the end of this year.

About your motor mount subframe removal comment.... Audi tech here. The bottom is a stud and the engine carrier has 2 other bolts loosen those and have the engine supported on top obviously and sub frame can be slipped out after undoing the other bolts and the 2 main bolts on the front, after that you can actually put those bolts back and everything would be supported by the car again

Let's see more content on it man I like the build amazed that you where able to keep the front clip so stock and in modified most I've seen the radiator forced to be relocated to the trunk

Thanks lol. Always wanted a B7 RS4 but couldn’t really ever justify the cost or accept the stock power and reality that it would take thousands to build the 4.2.

I did some research and you had said factory Audi radiator. I’m sure you need to swap that for a steam vent radiator and also require 60 psi constant oil pressure. Hope this helps! Cheers!

This is an old video, I need to make an update video that gives an overview because a lot has changed. The cylinder heads have steam ports which I routed to overflow tank, radiator has been working fine. On the new engine I put a standard pressure high volume pump and replaced remote filter lines with AN lines.

Who did your wire harness ? I’m interested in doing an 09 A5 with an LS motor but biggest concerns is how to mount motor and transmission.

I used a Holley terminator X and harness. As far as the modifications to the Audi harness, most of it was deleted (cut). I just bought a wiring diagram and cut anything I wasn’t going to use.

Super cool! Awesome work Caleb. I might've missed it, but what did you use for engine mounts. Also, you said you cut the subframe? What did you need to do to the subframe?

Thank you. I made custom mounts. Pretty much two steel plates with thick walled tube in between. One side bolted to engine and the other side bolted to a rubber T-56 mount, which bolted to factory Audi engine bracket. Subframe has to be cut out to clear passenger side of transmission, I boxed it back in with steel plate.

Hi caleb, i was wondering if the trans tunnel had to be modified for the transmission to fit or for that exhaust pipe. Looks like mostley the pipe. Awesome build. Ive wanted to do this for about 8 years now. I never knew that forward diff design transmission in the b8 existed. Thanks for sharing this!

I had to hammer the tunnel for the shift linkage to clear just inside of the firewall on the driver side, but in reality I could have probably gotten away without cutting it like I did. The passenger side I tried to hammer clearance for the side of the transmission (look at picture of OB4 transmission) because the actual front diff is offset closer to the wheel compared to O1E-because of this the internal shaft that connect the output to the front diff is also wider so that’s where the interference is. Ultimately because of that, I cut the tunnel but also so I could fit an exhaust there because I want to have a 4” down pipe coming off a single turbo and the passenger side is the side I plan to mount the turbo. I plan to swap another A4 eventually and make a video showing all the steps you need to take to swap an LS. Once I get the bugs worked out that is. Then possibly sell kits with adapter plate, crankshaft adapter, engine & transmission mounts plus subframe and finally shift linkage to use the OB4 Audi S4/S5 B8 transmission. I’d like to think I could sell these kits for less than $2000 for the hardware mentioned. But that’s a couple years away most likely though.

Im in the process of doing this swap in my b6 s4. Im making a tubular front subframe now, mostly because the stock one was rusted out. I appreciate your reply and cant waite for more updates on your car

Check out the build thread in the video description. There are more things that needs modified like the engine block in order to clear front differential of transmission.

Move the fans to other side of rad more room also if you do move there location make sure they push air because right now they pull air just a thought.

The less stuff that has to be modified on the stock chassis the easier it will be for people to do this swap. With the current configuration, the fans don’t have to be moved.

Hahaha because the lift is kinda annoying because if I raise it up too high it tends to stick and gets sketchy trying to lower it. I have something causing binding or maybe one cylinder is filling up faster than the other-I’ve read Maxjax had some quality concerns around time I purchased mine and the orifice is different between two cylinders. Alignment is dead on, just haven’t gotten around to fixing it because I’ve been busy with projects like the Audi 😃

@@MrEntTv I may just ditch the LS altogether if only I could find reliable gaskets for the 4.2. If this pans out, then I could begin work on making parts to swap a 4.2 into my old rusty murcielago lp640 instead. Please elaborate!

You said the transmission has a 4.11 gear ratio. Did you check that? Ive read they are a 3.77

There are some different variants of the OB2 and OB4. The specific one I bought was 4.11, I found a pdf at one point that had all the different ratios according to their 3 letter code

I made it. I measured the bolt pattern of the Audi transmission on a CMM and the LS pattern is available on numerous websites like GrabCad. Get ahold of Kennedy Engineering, they usually have some of the best prices and will do custom work.

Well for me it’s been trial and error with custom parts because to my knowledge no one has mated a B8 Audi transmission to an LS.. or put a B8 transmission into a B7. Conservatively I’d plan to spend $5,000 if I had to guesstimate. You should be able to sell your engine and transmission and recoup some money though. Eventually I’m going to make a video swapping another A4 and go through the process step by step, with everything including cost.

Yeah that’s because the OB2/OB4 transmission changed the axle position, which means lowering the engine position. The lowest point on the engine is the Oil pan, which at the moment is sitting about 2 inches lower than stock. I have plans to either make a custom oil pan or buy one from Sikky Manufacturing since their E30 BMW pans seem to meet the requirements for this application.

0B2 6-speed manual, which is stock transmission in the B8 Audi A4. 0B4 is the S4/S5 version but is very similar. Watch some of my other videos for more information.

Yes they do. OB2 I used is 4.11, I used a 4.11 from a b6 A4, swapped into the B7

So my b7 s line is my baby. And turns eyes everywhere. But it’s so slow…. And it hit me. I wanna ls swap it and be crazy again. My z is going pro charger and my iroc is taking to long. Is the ls Audi worth it? Had a v8 240 and miss it daily

It’s a lot of work but I think it’ll be an amazing street car or strip car. I’m working on developing a canbus conversion module, motor mounts, transmission mount, axles, an adapter plate and a flywheel to make it as simple and cheap as possible. Been spending this winter making each component manufacturable and finding sources for supply. I hope to launch a website and offer components this fall.
