NO NEED TO REMOVE SO MANY PARTS TO REMOVE THIS OIL COOLER. IT WILL COME OUT FROM UNDERNEATH EASY. THIS MOD MAKES IT MUCH FASTER TO REMOVE. REPLACED COOLANT LINE WITH ALUMINUM PIPE INSTEAD OF PLASTIC. MY MODIFICATION FOR FASTER AND EASIER REMOVAL OF TOP LEFT BOLT IS AT 7:45 MARK.
WASTED A LOT OF TIME TRYING TO REMOVVE TOP LEFT SCREW. OTHERWISE THIS CAN BE REMOVED IN ABOUT 1 HOUR TO 1 HOUR 1/2

This was great info for when I did mine. I did it during the timing belt service and was able to get an allen socket in there with a ratchet and did not have to cut a whole or lift the engine when doing it that way. Icon long allen socket was the perfect length. Be careful though, they are easily stripped.

Hats off sir! You are the most practical person. I have the same engine on my 2006 Touareg, and recently dealt with the intake flap arms that are made of plastic crap. Working for manufacturers in the past, the engineers are not to blame; the "product managers" are to blame for asking engineers to cut the cost of the product down at any price.

Shame the short cuts manufacturers take on a simple O ring. I guess these idiots at Audi didnt learn anything from the space shuttle O ring disaster.

Nice job doing that yourself! It is the most annoying part to replace on those 4.2l V8s. Awesome how many miles you've gotten out of the car!

Where he put a hole through his car to get the bolt out of his oil cooler it is a difficult bolt to get out but I used a ball hex socket set and got the bolt out on my 2003 A8. They are wonderful cars mine has 111,000 miles on it.

@@RAMBLE_ON I got a friend that has an ex that purchased one of these I think he says in 2005 I'm hoping it's the newer model but make a long story short he said it was the oil cooler leaking. So I wanted to research before I can even consider doing abandonment title and taking on this project. Just like my Impala or any other general motors car to 3.8 they use plastic coolant elbows that fail and it's nice to see that there is a replacement part that's aluminum which could have been ratified from the get-go by the manufacturer.. Overall can you tell me if there are any other major issues or minor issues that usually occur with these vehicles? I'm trying to research now and this is mainly the big one that I see.

@@gsxellence This repair is actually not that difficult. I am above average mech but do believe a good weekend mech or diy er can do this. Another known problem is the fuel pump that is located in the tank. I have a video on that also. I would not sell my Audi, it hasbeen awesome and has 265000 miles and engine is still strong
