It still begs the question, how do you call a car that has to stop for at least half an hour every 200 miles or so, a Grand Tourer? The 1.5 petrol A3 that's been with you on the motorway all the way to you pulling off to charge at the services, will just carry on for up to another 200 miles if it wants to the next services, 'recharge' in 5 minutes, and be off again. So by the time you've done 400 miles, you could be about an hour behind the A3. Grand Tourer EV, no such thing at the moment.

I thought you were going to tell us a joke, for me these will always be called EV’s but never a Car. It’s an insult to a vastly better product. I haven’t even watched this video, given it’s content.

I think theres an even bigger issue arising out of the points you make. Which is, how do the luxury car brands differentiate from Kia, Hyundai, PSA etc? They used to be technically superior, particularly with the engine, transmission etc and they would be faster. Now, what do they bring beyond the badge? And people will start to see that.

I totally agree with your comment. As an ex Audi, Merc and BMW driver who has bought an electric Kia (on order) for me, Korean was the way to go. Way back in 2005 i had a Kia Picanto, it was epically crap but completely reliable, no problems even after driving 80,000 miles as a psycho. I suppose then, it changed my perception of the brand but nowadays... For the price point, I'd go Korean every time. Quality is great as well.

I've been saying for years that EV's will kill enthusiasm because they are all the same. You can tell the difference between a Corvette engine and a Ferrari's or a Porsche flat 6 and a Lambo V12 electric motors are all the same.

I couldn't agree more, electric cars are the same from one to another these cars have no soul the performance variants will be using 2000bhp to separate!!

Good review, clear. On point. Of what this car is. Not many channel gives e-tron gt a credit for being a more comfy sport cruising car version of taycan. (I am a porsche fan) Keep up the good work💪🏻⚡️

More than 100 years of faster…and faster…and faster. Humans always want more isn’t it till the point they start getting less…Some people will obviously need a rocket moving forward. An electrical one obviously. I have reached long time ago a time of enough. This stuff interests me not other than the autonomy that technology will bring to help all the ones that for one reason or another can’t drive and have no transport but would like to and can afford the tech that will allow them to do so. The point now is that a 2CV suddenly feels more exciting that this overly expensive and overpriced electrical and uni-dimensional trash that needs 4x the amount of earth resources to make. Ecological? Nah! And lets just not talk about the charging network that seems to have been designed by Machiavelli during a psychotic episode … London can’t even cope with further new builds!

performance EVs need to differentiate from regular "fast" EVs through weight reduction and handling. perhaps more exotic, energy dense but expensive battery chemistry

One of my greatest EV moments (or hours) was when I had the misfortune of riding with my friend from Idaho Falls to SLC--235 miles--in his Tesla Model 3 PP for service. We drove 87mph, stopped twice to charge, and had to do a complete charge at the dealer in SLC. Guess how long it took us to drive 235 miles at that speed with one serious mountain pass? I'll save you the suspense: 5'10". That's 5 HOURS and 10 MINUTES. Oh, BTW, his 310 mile range Tesla can barely do 240 miles now, on a one year old Tesla. Incidentally, it took him 26 hours to drive from SLC to LA. 26... (688 mi). I'll let you look that one up on Google Maps. I think I could have made better time in a BMW i3, or a Leaf. Or, at least, I would have known to book hotels. I'm so done with EVs. They're three years out on decent battery tech, and by that time, I hope to god we are using hydrogen cells.

Is it me or do ‘luxury’ car makers pick the colours for these test cars with their eyes shut? That colour does nowt for the car and at that price it should stand out. Instead it looks like someone’s been sick on it!!

Just got to this one but boy does it resonate. The future death of performance cars is here already. How many youngsters turn their heads to gawk at your performance car going past? How many people subscribe to the "sporty SUV" guff turned out by marketing gurus and repeated and enhanced in the motoring press? And how many people buy supercars or hyper-cars only to lock them away and never drive them? People have already lost interest and already the vast majority have lost touch with what true driving dynamics are about. I had an enforced few years driving SUVs but could not let go of performance so had an RSQ3 (2 actually as 1 was nicked!) and latterly a GLC43 as I needed something a bit more comfortable for the last year. I've now got an S4 (the diesel one) and there is no comparison in terms of sportiness and overall performance car feel. But let's be honest the S4 isn't up there. It isn't even as good as my 2000MY BMW 530D never mind the ST170 I had around the same time. Sheer gut-wrenching acceleration is NOT the definition of sportiness and the vehicles that the majority of people buy (even the sporty ones) are NOT the performance cars of old. Hell, even Lotus has developed a refined "sportscar" and an electric SUV. The performance car is already dead.

I test drove the regular Etron GT. Left me cold. Unlike the Taycan Cross Turismo that I fell in love with despite its many small irritations. These still feel like early versions of a tech that is a very long way from mature. We’ll probably see autonomous flying drones take over eventually.

More to a car than raw speed/numbers. While true electrics are quick they lack many things I find appealing in driving ! They actually lack most of those things and they are at best a trade off. They maybe what will be sold but they will never replace! the end of performance cars they will simply make those that survive more coveted and valuable.

Idk about this e tron not being that sporty take, its very much in line with other super sport sedans on the market and better imo... I went from an m5 to an rs e tron gt and in city driving it's really sportier than the bmw. I can get on the power earlier and take corners faster and rocket out of corners faster than the bmw and to me thats how you measure "sportiness" of a car in city driving (along with steering feel which is not that far off from the bmw). where other sport sedans feel big and heavy (see e63s) the e tron and the taycan hide their weight well (mainly bc the center of gravity is so low) and shrink around you... So yes, if you're comparing the sportiness of the etron/taycan to a 911, then its not a competition, but if you are comparing it to other sports sedans on the market, the e tron and taycan are a lot better and sportier.

I'll have to disagree with you my friend. I own a G82 M4C and I have driven the Taycan and a M5 CS, but not the Audi eTron RS(which is reported to be a lesser car in terms of handling compared to the Porsche as shown here). Now I understand the CS is a step up from the M5C, BMW's halo super saloon, yet they are very similar in their approach in providing performance. Anyway, the CS was a much better handling car than the Porsche/Audi platform and had far more personality, handling and "sportiness". I'll add I'm a big fan of Porsche and have owned 997.2 Carrera S and a 991.1 Carrera GTS(which I still own), so I've some experience with their approach to making fantastic sports cars. The issue with the Porsche and Audi platform is weight and you can only hide that weight up to certain threshold before it becomes an issue, 2.4 tons is still 2.4 tons when driving at speed on great road or on track. Don't get me wrong I really liked the Taycan and understand electric cars are the future wether we like it or not...this of course is just my personal opinion after driving both cars. Take it as you will.
@js002003
@js002003 2 года назад
@@Peanutdenver great input and I do agree with you to a point... especially about the g82 (i actually owned a g80 xdrive and if i had to pick just one car it might be it) and 911s - no doubt those cars are sportier than the e tron but those cars are in a different class (they're intended to be lighter true sports cars), especially the 911s which only weight around 3,300 lbs...BUT I just disagree with the narrative in the vid that the e tron is not that sporty when its probably the sportiest in its class besides the taycan and CS. Indeed its sportier than the rs7, m5, m8, e63, amg gt - cars that im sure the presenter would say are sporty. Comparing my time driving in the m8 (which is probably considered the sportiest of the cars just listed) to the e tron, the m8 was slower, felt heavier, bigger, more numb steering, couldn't put the power down as well, and had more body roll through the corners. This is partly because these cars at around 4500 lbs are almost as heavy as the 5000 lbs e tron but they can't hide their weight nearly as well as the e tron which feels much more evenly balanced so the cars in its class actually feel heavier and bigger than the e tron (the e tron even handles better than as some lighter g80 class rivals like an rs5 which I've spend considerable time in bc its a lot better balanced and doesn't understeer as much) ... so in summary, yes, it will never be as sporty as a 911 but its to me its sportier than its rivals which I've also had the pleasure of driving.
