I went to three automotive performance shops in the suburbs of Vancouver, BC, Canada and had my car dyno'd by each of them... ALL IN ONE DAY!!! My goal was to show everyone that all dyno's read differently and that you are better off going to a track to show off your car's performance rather than sitting on a dyno. This was a video I've wanted to make for some time and I am very excited for you all to (hopefully) enjoy it!
Thank you very much to all of the shops for their time, their dyno's and most importantly, their support:

I have been informed by HPA Motorsports that the 474hp & 473lb/ft I ran at their testing facility was actually at the CRANK and was NOT at the wheels like I thought. Their dyno showed my car making 399hp and 412lb/ft at the WHEELS!!! This proves my point even further that every single dyno I ran my car on was massively different from the other!
@muskytuned

Sounds like HPA doesn't understand how their dyno is calibrated.... your car is definitely not making only 474hp at the crank. I think this vid proves it

Could I ask you a few important question as I am trying to upgrade my RS3 with a downpipe and an intercooler for stage 2 tune. I know you have a stage 2. When you installed the intercooler, did it affect the adaptive cruise control radar sensor that you have to relocate it or omit it? Did you only upgrade the downpipe without the catback system? Is your downpipe with a sport cat or de-cat?
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 4 года назад
Sorry dude, I must have missed these questions. I don't have adaptive cruise control so my intercooler install was pretty straight forward. I only installed the Iroz downpipe and midpipes. The Iroz downpipe is catless. I still have the OEM Sport exhaust.
@khvidtube1617
@khvidtube1617 4 года назад
@@VancityAudi That is fine. It must have come down to the car's options offered by Audi in where you live. In Australia for the RS3, adaptive cruise control comes with the car as standard. The reason I asked about the ACC was because I have been forced to install a bigger crash bar with foam and with new ACC bracket when I change the intercooler to a larger one.

I had a car tuned by the good people at Rocket Rally a decade ago and the main guy there (Patrick?) told me the problem with Chevron 94 is it may come from the refinery at 94 but due to our high gasoline prices it sits and degrades as most people opt for cheaper fuels. I wish Chevron would post which stations use the most 94.
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 4 года назад
There were also reports back in the day of gas stations having the octane tested out of their 94 pumps and it coming back low. Some as low as 91 octane even though it is sold as 94. No idea if that is still happening to this day though.

At 1:57, the 578 whp on E85 fuel is not more than Unitronic has advertised. Unitronic has advertised 621 hp (at the crank) on E85 fuel, for Stage 2.
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 4 года назад
If you multiply the 578whp by a 15% drivetrain loss which some people do you get 664 crank horsepower which is more than Unitronic advertises. Just goes to prove my point even more that all dyno's read differently.

@@khvidtube1617 is it completely safe as long as you do everything by the book. Make sure you follow all of the recommended upgraded parts from your tuner. HPA blips that you received is the power you'd be making in FWD as the Haldex slips in and out of AWD mode (since those rollers aren't link) The Superflow reads high for sure. 400AWHP on a stock RS3? Now that's interesting that you went on an AWD MD. I was on the same model and it's a pretty rough reading for sure in fact it's hard to be be sure what to think because I can have my verified Mass Flow and those LBS/MIN do not reflect realistic numbers at the tire. The NEW Mustang Dynos are even stranger they try to take you through a decel to determine loss, but Haldex systems aren't always AWD during decel and it ends up taking the WHP reading and then applying a reduced correction factor because of that process. For instance it told me my 2008 AWD Saab Turbo X (6MT) had a 9% drivetrain loss... You'd think it would read higher, but the new setup doesn't work like that. It preemptively reads less. Like the correction factor is part of the initial reading equation. Increasing the drivetrain loss artificially tells the Dyno that whatever number it makes NOW, is at a higher power level than it is, because it's factoring a loss factor up front. So this is kind of weird - at least the new MD stuff is. Also you're not seeing Haldex issues on that MD Dyno they just don't have crazy smoothing on their stuff Hey Adam, did the MD you were on have a stock RS3 by chance? Also I'd love to see what the car does on straight 93 on the MD. This was an awesome video! Thank you
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 4 года назад
The 401hp I mentioned the base RS3 made on the HPA dyno was actually crank hp. I was wrong when I said it was at the wheels. I asked what my car dyno'd at the wheels and it was only 399whp on the HPA dyno, not 474. That was at the crank. I mentioned this in the first pinned comment. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for watching!
@tonyvic4965
@tonyvic4965 4 года назад
If they advertise 554bhp x .15%(drivetrain loss)= 83.1bhp 554 - 83.1 = 470.9whp You did plenty of 470whp pulls in the vid. Is right in par of what you are doing. No one out there is going to give you mustang numbers for their convenience. Everyone is showing dynojet numbers to show more. I do agree with you that we need to stop going to dynos for numbers and go to the track. Plus you have a better time at the 1/4 mile.
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 4 года назад
I noticed these numbers after I uploaded the video as well. I used 15% as an extremely high example of drivetrain loss. I don't believe these cars suffer that high a loss. I believe that they are extremely efficient and that is one of the reasons they go extremely fast with a decent amount of power and not needing massive power like most other platforms do to run 10's
@gadzoooks77
@gadzoooks77 4 года назад
Why wouldn't you do these all in fwd???
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 4 года назад
Because the majority of RS3 owners will all be dyno'ing their cars in AWD.
@gadzoooks77
@gadzoooks77 4 года назад
@@VancityAudi but it's so inconsistent, the haldex system can't put the power down properly to get an accurate reading as you can clearly see from the graphs, so just take that factor out of the equation and do fwd dyno
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 4 года назад
@@gadzoooks77 my goal here wasn't to show that doing an AWD dyno on an RS3 wouldn't get you accurate results. The goal was simply to show that comparing dyno results from one car to another, from one dyno to another, all the way on the other side of the country is a complete waste of time. There are too many variables and the dyno's are calibrated differently and register differently. If you watch all of my other dyno videos when I do product comparisons I do them all in FWD to get as accurate a read as I can. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-71gpi8PSsgg.html
@Tonyturbo42
@Tonyturbo42 4 года назад
Comparing dyno results as long as they are all a dynojet is never a waste of time as they will be similar. It's only a waste of time when you decide to compare numbers from say a Dynocom, Mustang, and Dynojet. The first two can be manipulated easily to read high or low. The Dynojet cannot due to the way it reads based on inertia. This is basic stuff.
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 4 года назад
Basic stuff to you maybe... but the general public has zero understanding of those principles. They're under the belief "a dyno is a dyno". End of story. We know this not to be true and I took the time to highlight this.
@muskytuned
@muskytuned 4 года назад
The dynojet load cell can be manipulated as well. However it is much more accurate to use an inertia based load to measure hp and tq. When I use the mustang dyno for power figures I turn off the eddy current brake and use the inertia of the heavy rollers. From my experience the older large drum dynojets read lower than the newer 24" roller dynojets. But again it could be the calibration of the ones I've used. The Dynojet is known as the industry standard for measuring whp (in North America anyway).
