This is one of the best real world test I've seen. Great job guys, I only wish there was a translator option so I could understand what you were saying.
Ive owned both Audi and Subaru. Subaru feels cheaper, but I never had any mechanical or electrical issues. Audi felt very robust and well designed, but had numerous mechanical and electrical issues. If you're rich, get the Audi. If you're smart and don't care about good looks, get the Subaru.
I've owned five Audis, partly to 18 years, and never had any electrical, mechanical or other problem. Every car had more than 250k km. So it seems to be a problem of service and driver.
Everyone is complaining about some small details, but this is still the fairest test I've seen in a while. It's always very bias, one car goes up a hill like it's glued to the track, others slides backwards and so on. All of them were very close, it comes to preferences at this point. Don't think this will make anyone switch.
ONE work oldschool technology which vorks(btw audi was eguipped with sport suspencion, no hell bmv only for teenage rappers, got one 90;s 320 turbo 420hp in back wheels 10,8 time
All cars was tested in the same conditions. Some disciplines with ESP ON, other ESP OFF . But always for all cars equally. The cars participated in the test: Audi A4 2.0 TDI (103 kW) BMW 320 X-Drive, Mercedes-Benz 250 CDI 4Matic Subaru Legacy 2.0D. Every car had different tires . We are not in Slovakia in such a conditions that we could afford to buy the same tires for all the cars. sorry for my english. i am not the specialist.
Excellent video. I didn't understand the language, but you guys covered a wide variety of tests and tests were easy to understand. I'm a long time Subaru owner. This is the first good comparison I've come across comparing the major awd systems. It's good to see the xDrive win. It's a great system. I'm familiar with the older 5-speed and 6-speed STI, and they are somewhat dated. Newer ABS based helps, but torque vectoring isn't in Subaru. It would be nice to see a Honda SH-AWD tested.
The Quattro is quite impressive in luxury and performance, but the Subaru Forester XT has to be one of the best awd vehicles on the market. The handling in unlike anything I've experienced. Honestly its crazy to even think of Subaru being compared with the likes of Audi and BMW, but this sleeper became my choice after a simple test drive in pouring down rain. No regrets!
I needed a new car when I moved to northern Idaho in 2004. My decision was made when I had a short conversation with our rural 50ish year old postwoman. I asked her if she delivered mail with her car "way up there." I was pointing to the mountain top roads. She said that her car was the only vehicle she trusted to get her up and back safely. It was an old Subaru. SO, I bought a 2009 Subaru Outback and I still have it! I have 100,000 miles on it and have had no major issues. I absolutely love it - still - to this day. If you purchase one - be careful. You will become an overconfident driver overnight - literally! This vehicle takes care of you!
Хорошие машины! И каждая по своему, а если ещё и правильная прокладка между рулём и сиденьем да в сочетании с хорошей резиной так вообще огонь!!!!!!!!!
I think you guys did a great real world problems test, that people would encounter on daily basis going to the mountain or during snow storms, so more less realistic. I don't understand why everyone is complaining about this test. You guys rock! Keep making videos I'm subscribing. Molodci Hlopci! I owned Subaru, 4 Matic mercedes, bmw. All have their own problems in snow. While subaru did really good, Mercedes also did good but was issue with Stability control taking over too much and overheating breakes to glowing hot after 20 minutes of sliding in snow and cant build up speed. Subaru obviously is awesome but not as comfortable.. seems like audi got little bit of both luxury and good awd system, now if they can make good reliable engines and less shitty plastics that fail with in first 6 years.
+MasterofPlay7 well not all the 4cyl turbos are great little engines and diesel once are performing well. The 3.2 and 2.8 in my experience were the shitties I've came across in terms of reliability and maintenance.
+MasterofPlay7 had the 2.8 a6 then 3.2 a6 while non died during my ownership lol I got to fix quiet a few things on the engine. On 2.8 throttle body started having issues, first one was carbon build up then second time IAC sensor went out. Then lifters failed so I sold it. Got newer 3.2 a6 was a beast then started having electrical issues until timing guide failed. Now that was a pain.
budymoney oh, I thought audi is pretty reliable, it's the top euro car which ranked number 3 or 4 in the 2016 auto consumers report (#1 and 2 of course being Toyota and lexus....)
great test! tires do count a lot. and in pulling test the audi and bmw has a bit of advantage since they are wagons and havier. anyway best winter test ever. subtitle would be nice
That depends on the model year (not sure what model year these are). Legacy and Outback for many model years have different AWD configurations. For instance, on a lot of model years, Legacy has no limited-slip differential in either front or rear, while Outback can have it on either one or both front and rear differentials depending on the year. Subaru AWD components actually vary widely from model to model, and year to year despite all of them being a symmetrical configuration.
Nice thorough review and film !!! But it would be nice to have some English Subtitles for the rest of the non Slovak speaking world ?? !! I presume all the cars were on the same winter tyres ?
Differences are not huge, so all are good cars. All AWD systems have their own pros and cons,Some AWD systems are good for track, some are good for snow , some for drifting, some for drag races etc, now depend on your choice what you want to do with your AWD system. All are no.1
Tires its a VERY IMPORTANT factor in test like this!!! These tests are great, but if the tires are different, or stock it will greatly affect the performance of any car in snow conditions!
Why didn't they try Subaru Impreza?? That would have been interesting, BMW AUDI and MERCEDES have battled each other while others made huge advances in technology. I own a BMW now, previously owned Audi, Rover, Alfa Romeo, Opel, Jeep, only drove a Subaru Impreza once and I love that car:))
Isnt the Audi A4 Quattro only Haldex system and Subaru classic Torsen? It would had been a bit different if the tested models were 5er, E-Klasse and A6 - which uses the old school torsen or?
I think these real life tests are much better than those indoors tests on rollers. I didnt understand the language but the video was nice and realistic for my taste. The cars seemed completely stock just like most people would use them except in extreme snowy climates. Of course tires make a difference but this was a good test nevertheless
and once you pay the auto repair bill on the germans....you will choose Subaru again. I am on my 4th Subaru...this time a 08 Tribeca.......never ever had any kind of issues with none of my subaru's :)
Fred Meyer You had your 4th Subaru? lol. I have my first Audi for 7 years and its 20 years old. What bill you idiot? You had 4 same cars in your life and still buy another of this shit? hahahahha.
snip84 I had my first Audi for 7 years and it had just as many problems - including a significant front-end recall issue whose case I helped contribute to (which took 6+ years to push through Audi) - as any other new car I've bought. However, the repairs were far more expensive for the Audi than any USA or Japanese brand I've also owned. Decent car when it's all working well and built like a tank, but it wasn't a very satisfying experience overall - so, I no longer invest in Audis. By comparison, I'm now ordering my 4th Subaru (i.e., others members of the family had two others), my prior one being 10.5 years old and still in overall very good shape - I just decided to downsize and get features that I want for the next 10+ years. Not as refined as an Audi, but I have found Subarus a heck of a lot more satisfying (and practical) for the money.
Fred Meyer Yeah tell the 245,000 mile 325is (wailed on for over a year, only need front control arm bushings) or the 290,000 mile 9000 Turbo (wailed on constantly for two years; just needed new alternator, swaybar links and brakes) that
Good job! Very entertaining. Who cares about some difference in tyres or weight or horse power. It is all about the show, and I personally enjoyed it. Next time pls include 30 degrees icy uphill ::) also: next winter do forrester vs q5 vs x3 vs GLK. Maybe, BMW will want to sponsor it :) And...Subaru rocks :)
BMW's and Audi's are on par when it comes to performance in the snow. BMW has more performance, but audi has more stability and control. So if you want to go fast, choose BMW, want to be safe and in control, choose the Audi. I want to go fast, so I will choose the BMW.
Umí to někdo zdůvodnit?
Drove and owned all of these cars over the years, the best driving car and this is what really matters. If money isn't an issue is the 3 series, if you don't believe me try one.
Finally someone who really understands physics and that all these cars rely on tires to connect to the road. All these tests are not really fair comparisons because they negate the tires... I would even argue that a thinner more softer tire would make any of these cars handle better, does not need studs. And for most of the commenter here it won't really matter what they choose as it most likely will fit their needs just fine....
You can't be driving on city streets and highways with studded or chains on your tires. It's illegal in most cases and cities. Comparison of these luxury vehicle brands and the Subaru isn't a very good comparison. Everyone knows that the AWD system in the Quattro and Subaru's are proven as one of the best AWD systems and the other two are also very good. It's amazing how the Subaru can pull a heavy load and tow out a vehicle stuck in the snow. Look at some examples on RU-vid. You'll see and be convinced how competent the Symmetrical AWD system really performs. Plus you have a much better resale value of any Subaru next to all of these luxury brands that only hold around 30% of the value after so many miles and years owned compared to the Subaru's holding close to over 60% over the same time period
