It's odd because when I think of series 2, I always think of it as the Spain series, yet for about 3 quarters of that series they are actually in England. It's really more the Derbyshire series.
No joke, I'm a bricklayer because of that show, how mad is that, I visited the UK locations, even got let into thornley manor by the previous owners, then I saw a few of the Spanish locations whilst on holiday, one of the greatest shows ever made, and at the time I so wanted them to do series 3, I wish they hadn't done, it was an 80.s show pure and simple, auf pet in the 2000,s no it didn't work for me at all, unfortunately I am too far away to make it this evening
Absolutely agree. Yes, the characters were still great, but the 80's were where those characters flourished. The humour, the culture....had all sadly changed by the time they brought them back. Plus, no Gary Holton, and a clearly unwell Pat roach, and it just was not necessary. Should have left it with the 2 original series....utterly flawless.
@@HelmutSchmacker There are some people who hate series 2, I thought it was the best one, if Garry hadn't died I think they where planning on doing another in Moscow
Another great video! I was only a young lad when AWP was first aired but I loved it even then, my father was a builder and so I identified with the characters, especially Dennis. The best series of the 80's without doubt.
Fantastic job there Steve, your dedication is incredible. I was only 13 when I saw the 1st episode and immediately fell in love with the series and unknowingly with Germany and the German language. Superbly written and the actors made their characters so believable and lovable. 40 years later and I’m just finishing watching series 1 again on dvd and looking forward to heading over to Thornley Manor! Thanks for the video Steve, can’t wait for your next instalment.
The Nijmegen bridge bought back some memories from a bridge too far .my great uncle was in 2 Para on the bridge at Arnhem with them brave boys under the great Lt Col Johnny frost ..the line when frost shouts bring up the PIAT’s brings a tear to my eye every time as Jimmy was one of the first to use them in 1943 on operation fustian .sadly jimmy was KIA 3 days after landing at Renkhum Heath fighting their way to the bridge and bravely defending it .he was 23 years old and was only married a month ..lest we forget those brave lads ❤❤
My dad's brother was also at arnhem, he was shot down and laid in a field for nearly a fortnight until he was found by German soldiers by which time he had gangrene in his right leg. Gerry took him to a German hospital where his leg was amputated saving his life. He spent a year there being rehabilitated and getting used to his state of the art prosthetic leg then he was sent home and his war was over.
Incredible job Steve , Great tribute to one of the greatest Series ever made . When I was driving the Artics up to the North ,I had recorded "Breaking Away " onto Tape ,and my Truck ad a cassette recorder . Always playing that Song . Summed it all up really !
Brilliant!!! I've just finished watching all the series including the special for the millionth time lol. I was 10 when it first came out and I was hooked straight away with my family. I always watch the show, best tv series ever!!!!!! best characters too. Perfect. What a dedication you did for this amazing video!
How brilliant! I'm a big fan,and my wife always says , "Oh no you're not watching that again, are you? Ha ha! I'll always love it! Great video, and really well put together. 👏
My missus says the same, when the first series started I was about half way through my bricklaying apprenticeship and once I was qualified I spent most of the following 10 years working away from home, I never lived in a hut or a derelict manor house but a lot of it was fairly accurate.
A lot of work went into that vid so well done and yes am a huge fan of the show. It was very funny and reminded me of my time in West Germany as a soldier
Fantastic effort that! The restaurant at the Dutch services being used as two separate locations is a great discovery. Can't see many fans being aware of that fact - i certainly wasn't. Much appreciated. 👍
Fantastic comedy and a great bunch of lads. Never bettered. This was comedy at its finest. Never get tired of watching reruns or my entire DVD collection. You did a fantastic job of finding these locations after 40 years, considering a lot has changed. Excellent.
Best show ever. I owe my career to this show.. it's time they made more especially as they left to go back to Germany . Wyman could meet up with his half sister or brother . Dennis and Dagmar could've had a kid ..
Hi there j don't know how you did ot or how you found these locations but absolutely fabulous work ..I watched 3 hrs of the gang last night I was only a teen at school when this came out it was our highlight of the week I still love it to this day Much like only folks and horses and Benidorm thanks Again regards Andrew The Baler Doctor
Great Videos mate, just discovered ya and this programme got me through some tough times 😂😂 Please pray they don’t try and make it in this day and age, the 2000 remake just made it through in my eyes.
Brilliant series and great video. Thank you for bring back some old memories. One thing 7:36 They're from Wales. You can tell man. Wasn't it "Spurs. You can tell man" ?
Great video my friend. I was 16 years old when the lads took to our screens. I had just started my YTS ( YOUTH TRAINING SCHEME ) at ICI Billingham. Great Times 👍 and without doubt the best series to ever be put on TV.
On that last scene where Neville says "the bottom of the sump's dropped off", there's a continuity error. Dennis says to Oz, "If we take this to a German garage will the insurance cover it?" but if you rewind by a few seconds and turn the volume right up, you can hear Dennis say "If we take this to a German garage will the insurance cover it?" already to Oz while the camera is focusing on Neville looking at the back of the car.
Here's a little known fact for you. After Bon Scott died angus and Malcolm young wanted Gary Holton to be the new front ma of AC/DC but at that time his acting career was starting to take off following quadrophenia and he was focussing less on his music. Before Gary was cast as Wayne the role almost went to John Altman who was also in quadrophenia and replaced the late Gary as lead singer of the Heavy Metal Kids for their reunion tour a few years back. Talk about "The road not taken"!
That's livin all right every word tells a true storey trust me I lived the dream lol the hardest, longest days I've ever worked the best mates I ever met brummie brickies aussie labourers and 2 of us cider head chippies # Liepzig 91
Great video with the comparisons…..do you have the location for the windmill on the A15 please ? My mate and I are going to try and follow your route this weekend.
Don't make TV like this anymore if someone did they'd make a fortune man like pet ya canny fukkas the actors and story lines were perfect respect too them all
strange song and 1983 was a bloody crap year for me been 14 and stuck in crummy school which I left 2 years later aged 16 . I honestly wish in 1983 Ihad been aged 20 or even 20 plus.
