"Auferstanden aus Ruinen" (German for "Risen from Ruins") is a patriotic German song that was the national anthem of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), commonly known as East Germany, during its existence from 1949 to 1990. It was written by Johannes R. Becher.

I agree and for a college alma mater the Columbia university one can fit here nicely since it uses Gott Erhalte Franz den kaiser instrumental For a Ukranian student that goes this line Боже, буди покровитель Цїcарю, Єго краям! Honestly this was the better anthem. I mean either sing the full "Lied der Deutschen" or "Auferstanden aus Ruinen". But not this third stanza only bullshit. That is hardly an anthem.

I have to agree. Singing the third stanza only is the epitome of PC nonsense. Not to mention that starting from the third stanza just comes across as a non sequitur. "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" is probably the better anthem, though I respect the "Lied der Deutschen" as the more historic of the two. A good solution could be for Germany to use the first stanza of the "Lied der Deutschen," followed by the entirety of "Auferstanden aus Ruinen", and concluding with the third stanza of the "Lied der Deutschen." The second stanza of the "Lied der Deutschen" is okay, though I'm not sure it's quite worthy of a national anthem. Certainly of the threed stanzas, it is the one most appropriate to omit.

I couldn’t agree more if you’re not going to use all the stanzas then pick a different song. I think Auferstanden aus Ruinen would be a great anthem to represent Germany.

What irks me the most about the only third stanza stuff is what the song starts on as a result. "Eingkeit und Recht und Freiheit, fur das Deutschen Vaterland." Unity and Justice and Freedom, for the German Fatherland. Whereas the anthem used to begin stating Germany was the most important thing in the world, now Unity and Justice and Freedom, are implicitly put before the German Fatherland. Abstract ideals that can be bent and twisted are more important then one's own nation and people. Thus the anthem implicitly values ideals over people, which is a terrible, terrible message to send.

Lyrics are from Johannes R.Becher, the melody was composed by Hans Eisler. Eisler was jewish and a communist, so two reasons for the nazis to kill him. Eisler fled to the US after Hitler overtook power.After WW2 Eisler was kicked out of the US during the McCarthy-era because of his communist past and settled in East-Germany.

The authentic hymn of surviving germans, following 6 years totally war. Those should be our most innerst values for future. And musically framed in an Umbrella out of destiny, dispair, shame and authentic impact to do it better. We failed, suffered, but learned and are powerfull enough to create a new and better way.

Hallo Dr. Ludwig, toll, daß Du all die verschiedenen Versionen von Liedern, Märschen und Hymnen rauflädst und ich weiß ja auch, warum Du viele Lieder erneut hochlädst...aber es gibt trotzdem noch bekannte Lieder, welche Du noch gar nicht raufgeladen hast, soweit ich weiß. Wie zum Beispiel das bekannte Landsknechtslied "Wir zogen in das Feld" oder sehr bekannte Minnelieder wie "Unter der Linden" von Walther von der Vogelweide. Nur mal als Anregung. Grüße Mega

Auferstanden aus Ruinen insttrumental does fit nicely into Stand Columbia the Columbia university alma mater lyrics because it uses the Gott Erhalte Franz Den Kaiser instrumental. At a push Auferstanden au Ruinen instrumental can be used to match the Rutgers Alma mater if you want to do it for fun

Wenn du die DDR nicht gekannt hast lass dir sagen dass Zeilen wie "der Sonne zugewandt" oder "Wenn wir brüderlich uns einen, Schlagen wir des Volkes Feind!" nicht neutral sind. Es ist die Sonne des Sozialismus gemeint und wer des Volkes Feind ist und wer mit "Steigt ein frei Geschlecht empor" gemeint ist war auch jedem DDR Bürger klar. "Rücksichtslos der Partei oder der Ideologie." ist leider absoluter Schwachsinn!!! Es war nur ein bisschen verschwurbelter formuliert als bei "Die Fahne hoch".

Mit dem Text unserer Nationalhymne gehe ich konform, aber an der Melodie sollte man wirklich etwas ändern. Die Melodie klingt altmodisch und gar trostlos. Diese Melodie hier ist bedeutend schöner. Der Text von "Auferstanden auf Ruinen" ist so entworfen worden, dass man ihn auch zu der Melodie des Deutschlandlieds (unserer Nationalhymne) singen kann. Dadurch funktioniert es aber auch andersherum. Ab 0:18 ließe sich ebenso der altbekannte Text "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit für das deutsche Vaterland! Danach lasst uns alle streben brüderlich mit Herz und Hand! Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit sind des Glückes Unterpfand: Blüh im Glanze dieses Glückes, blühe, deutsches Vaterland!" singen. Nur die Wiederholung der letzten Zeile passt nicht ganz. Das würde nicht nur insgesamt besser klingen. Wäre meiner Meinung nach zumindest mal eine Überlegung wert.

@@isenfaust950 Ich hätte kein Problem damit wenn die Bundesrepublik "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" (Text und Melodie) zu ihrer Hymne machen würde. Allerdings glaube ich nicht, dass die Mehrheit so denkt. Zum einen wollen viele, dass alles beim Alten bleibt und lehnen jede Veränderung grundsätzlich ab. Und zum anderen glaube ich, dass viele aus Vorurteilen heraus nicht die DDR Hymne übernehmen wollen würden.

Das sollte unsere Nationalhymne werden! Gibt es den eine Möglichkeit das man der Bundestag sagt das soll die Neue Nationalhymne werden den das Volk will es ! Oder was muss man den da genau machen ?
