The Kinder Institute was excited to host Indiana University Professor of Political Science Aurelian Craiutu for his October 16, 3:30pm keynote address, “Moderation in America,” which will conclude a two-day series of events on the philosophy and politics of moderation. A preeminent historian of political ideas, whose works emphasize the virtue of political moderation from the early Modern period to the present, Prof. Craiutu will draw on past philosophers and exemplars of political moderation in his talk in order to offer insights for encountering contemporary forms of extremism in American political life.
Dr. Aurelian Craiutu is a Professor of Political Science at Indiana University in Bloomington. He identifies as a political theorist and historian of political ideas, and is one of the world’s preeminent scholars of political moderation. His two most recent books are A Virtue For Courageous Minds: Moderation in French Political Thought, 1748-1830, and Faces of Moderation: The Art of Balance in an Age of Extremes, which was published by the University of Pennsylvania Press. Dr. Craiutu is currently working on a new book titled Letters to a Young Radical: How to be a Moderate, which is under contract, and to be published in the near future by Cambridge University Press.
