One might assume that Aurora had a very troubled childhood from all the dark, intense, and heavy songs she has written. But her childhood as described by her was very happy, she grew up in a stable comfortable home with very loving and supporting family. What your hearing and seeing is Auroras ability as a true empath. These songs are mostly her reactions to news stories or facts that she came across that hit her so deeply that she had to express her feelings about them in song and lyrics. She has experienced some loss, some bullying for being different and her Sister has issues with being bi-polar, but in general Aurora is a very loving and up beat person, though naturally an introvert.

Yes her family was wonderful to her growing up but once she was in grade 7, she felt hate, judgement, bullying and cruelness for the first time in her life, by other students. They made her feel "weird, not normal, a freak, not accepted" for the first time and it hurt her very much as she couldn't understand the judgement and laughter towards her.

Aurora has spoken about this song before and you're right about the idea of euthanasia. She had read a story about a husband who had shot his wife, at her request, in order to spare her from the horrific suffering that her terminal illness was causing her. She said that the tragic thing, when you think about it, is that this really is a love song. There is no question that he loves her deeply and her release is his greatest expression of love. She is released, but he has to go on living with what he did. Ok, how about some happier, ore upbeat Aurora? And you`re right, this was about a husbands killing of her wife with a terminal and painfull illnes. From early age Aurora had to write a song when red or heared something that disturbed her. Through my discovery of Aurora this year I have have learned that Aurora is the biggest empath on the planet. In Conquer she says, “ I fall asleep in my own tears, I cry for the world for everyone”. She has been writing these songs since before she was 12 and feels EVERYTHING. If I am remembering correctly, she wrote this song on something she read of a murder and this perspective is not only the victim but the murderer at the same time. Knowing what I have learned about her I would not be surprised that she picked up something from the vibe of the story that she felt the need for others to know.

@kevdenn

Aurora Co-wrote the song with Odd Martin Skalnes (The guitar player in the video) when she was 18. In an interview, Aurora was asked if the song (Murder 54321) was inspired by an experience she lived, she said: "I just think it's fascinating how people can be the same people, how you and I need oxygen, can have children, need to be embraced, we need food, water, that we smile at us... we need the same things because we are people. And it's just fascinating that some people can have in them the desire to kill while some people cannot pick a flower without feeling bad. That's about this I wrote 'Murder Song'. How can a man kill someone he loves and it happens often in the world. But he doesn't really understand what he did, it's a very complicated story. Her, she didn't want to be in this world anymore, and she knew that this man would do anything for her. She asks him to kill her and he said : 'Ok, I love you, I would do anything for you.' After he killed her, he became sad because she didn't move anymore and he didn't understand where she went. He didn't understand why she left and he start crying. And it is sad, because for the rest of his life, he will not understand and he will be sad."

It's really strange thing to say word "generation" in a way you mean it, because in this era humanity had like 20 generations. So, by your logic all generations except yours can't see beauty in this thing. I can say, that the story of humanity at the same time is different and the same. There are always happened, happening and will be happen good and awful things. Even with humanity or without. Sorry for my english, it is really bad(((

@jsamuelsen
@jsamuelsen 2 года назад
That's the beauty in some well written lyrics. The listener/reader/audience can interpret it in different ways. It could be about someone who's unstable and really believes he's doing good, or it could be a very stable person helping the person he loves more than anything in the world stop suffering because options aren't available. It's also called murder song not mercy killing song so that throws another wrench in the gears. The way I see it mostly is that it's from the perspective of the murder victim who was so in love with the guy who killed her despite his mental illness that she's letting everyone know, through the song, that she understands that he didn't want to kill her and that she knows he did it because he truly believed it was best. And, of course, she wrote this song. I think she was inspired by a news story.

I believe aurora is neurodivergent I believe Asbergers spectrum. Which I feel she truly is empathic and is the music when performing a true genuis. This song to me is so close to home. My husband loves me most he is my caretaker, provider, my everything. I have had autoimmune illnesses for 30 plus years now. The pain I have daily I feel is worse for my family. My husband the most. He is there during those quiet heartbreaking pain and suffering. No true relief ever until death. I've been diagnosed first in navy with dercums disease, then fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis, dysautonomia, sjogrens. Raynauds phenomenon, chiari malformation, trigeminal neuralgia, complex migraine, non epileptic seizure and so many comorbidities. That symptoms are what are treated, no cures. So when she sings he did it for mercy I feel it's out of endless love

I also believe that she's likely neurodivergent tho Idt she's ever said shes been diagnosed with anything to my knowledge? As for "Asperger's spectrum" I think you mean "autism spectrum". Asperger's wasn't ever seen as a spectrum and is no longer a diagnosis, as it's recognized as part of the autism spectrum, and was coined by a Nazi who used it to separate autistic kids who he deemed worthy of living.

You are absolutely right, Aurora has said herself that her songs may mean something different to each listener. Aurora is one of very, very few artists who can write a song about such a dark subject and yet make it sound so utterly gorgeous. I had the privilege of seeing her live here in the UK in 2019, which was my first ever pop concert at the age of 64 at the time, and I absolutely loved it. If you can get to see Aurora live, grab the chance. I promise you won't be disappointed. Also, I can recommend her performance of "Black Water Lilies", live on the Honda Stage. Another great reaction:) For a happy one, I would suggest "Exist for love". But the song I really would like to recommend is a song she is featured on, and that strays even further from her normal work. "Wardruna and Aurora - Helvegen (live)" is the youtube title. it's in Norwegian, so closed captions are recommended. Warduna is a Norwegian group that makes music inspired by traditional Nordic folk music (mostly Scandinavian). They use old traditional instruments, and their lyrics are often written in Skaldic form (like the old norse poets/skald) and has worked on some tv shows and video games.

Hello again and thank you for another great Aurora reaction. To start with your last question : Yes, she has written this song. She was inspired by a local newspaper article, in which a husband kills his wife for mercy, because he couldn't stand watching her suffer anymore. And Aurora tells this story from the perspective of the victim... in a very impressive way, I would say. If you will be coming back to Aurora someday soon, I would suggest something more upbeat and positive. Try "Daydreamer" from HAIK concert, "Curchyard" or "All is soft inside" from KEXP concert. There you will see a very energetic Aurora... but also very impressive in its own way. Best wishes from Germany : Gerry

Yes, this is probably her darkest song - so it's all uphill from here! 🙂 For a Happy, upbeat song I would suggest "Warrior" or "Queendom" or "Soft Universe". Maybe "Running With the Wolves" - not happy but not so dark. I see a lot of people are suggesting "Exist for Love", while it's a good song, it's a love song sort of reminiscent of the 30's or 40's - so although it is a feel good song, it isn't really that upbeat!

You know that these things may be happening to someone right now. It's kind of a terrifying thought. I just had to get that thought out of my head - and that's why I wrote this song. Ok the best best best most lovely song is RUNAWAY which is a song she wrote at 11yrs old! It is an amazingly beautiful performance at The NobelPeacePrize 2015. I'm sure you would love that as its not so dark. I take this song is meaning, the world is such a cruel, painful, hateful, suffering place for some people. She has suffered or is still suffering such horrible, painful things in her life that he doesn't want her to suffer one more day of the evilness this life has given her. She will be in peace after dying, in his view.... what do you think??

Hello! And, thanks again for another Great Aurora Reaction..... For me, I was more enveloped with her singing and her ....... I don't even know how to put it... Her ability to not only connect to the song, but to convey it to us.... Her.....performance.... Yet, I too was eventually caught up in the actually 'meaning' of the song. I mean, how can someone who is being murdered by their significant other sound so compassionate 'for him'??? Here is the story as I heard it.... Picture a couple, deeply and madly in love, more than likely been together for decades. Well, at some point in their relationship, she contracts some terminal illness. It's a slow illness, she's had it for quite some time and it's always been a constant in their relationship, an unwanted constant to say the least. The illness is terminal but it works slowly. Because of this, she is in constant pain, this pain is gradual yet it eventually becomes 'everything'. It overtakes her constantly. How horrible to live in such pain....such pain that eventually all you want is the end. And, here is her husband, her life companion, they love each other 'so' much. I'm going to assume the topic of assisted suicide came into conversation on more than one occasion. At the very least, her telling him that she wished it would all end would be said here and there. Finally, it's too much for her to bear, and she asks him to "kill her for mercy". What a horrific position for two people to be in. She probably had to ask him a few times, who in their right mind wants to end 'any' one's life, 'especially' the love of their life! Yet, he cannot bear to watch his wife, whom he's loved for so long have to bear this cross. She finally asks him one last time for help, and he's finally ready and able to give it........a uniquely tragic situation indeed. My final thought are: How in the hell does anyone write a song like this, especially someone at her age?? And, how is she "so able" to perfectly convey the emotion.....the story? She is one of a kind.

But that’s in a more funny way, I found myself laughing at some points😅 And for those that think it’s a true story, it’s not. But there was a woman that frightened the children in Auroras neighbourhood, but she wasn’t dangerous in any way. When I was a child, we had an old lady nearby in a small house that stood there alone, and the children made up stories about her, like she was the witch in the fairytale “Hans and Gretl”. But later I got to know her, and she was very sweet 😅

I truly feel your authentic reaction. I hope you are not going to be troubled for a long time. I bet someone else has already explained the source of this song: Aurora reading about a murder in a newspaper where the husband did kill his wife who was dying of cancer. He helped her by ending the anguish and pain from the illness. He of course also suffered from the murder. Still Aurora portraits the angst and horror of being killed, even though it happened with the victims consent.

Aurora, when she sings, totally embodies the lyrics of her songs. She writes about ideas. Yes definitely she leaves it open to the listener to interpret the song. For this song some people say mercy killing, some people say an unhinged man who wants to save his lover from life's difficulties. She won't say. She does sing many happy songs but they are often deeply interesting and start you thinking in unexpected directions. I highly recommend her beautiful song A Different Kind of Human, but there are many others with a happier vibe such as Running With the Wolves, Everything Matters (absolutely heavenly) and The River.

From her interviews and comments a lot of her songs are based on exploring thoughts and emotions she is having at the time. Or, themes she is currently interested in. For example, "Through the Eyes of a Child" was written when she was in a negative head space so she wrote the song to move past it. Some great songs to react to that hasn't seen a lot of reactions would be "Little Boy in the Grass" and " Under Stars" both have great versions at the Nidarosdomen concert.

From what I understand, she loves that each person has their own interpretation of the lyrics. For me, it is not a question of heutanasia, but of a pational crime. The murderer wants to keep this woman for himself, even if death is the only way. And the woman makes excuses for the murderer even when she has left this world. But deep down, as you yourself have felt this, this malaise... she knows that it is not true. It's totally creepy, scary and sad. But so wonderfully rendered. It's viewed from the victims perspective. The twitching and oh oh's.. imagine laying shot, on the edge of death. The body spasms, you gasp short, sharp intakes of breath.. sad, scared, but knowingly the person had no I'll intent, knowing they love you with all their heart and soul. Maybe their deranged and lost in their own darkness, maybe they see some awful event coming and that's why they did what they did. You know it, accept the reason but that doesn't change the sad and scared, frantic state of mind. The conform from them holding you as you die, yet the sadness and terror inflicted by their hand. It's truly almost too much to process.

Thank you for another Aurora reaction!! I agree with you about this song being written from a unique perspective - of the one who was killed & became a ghost watching the killer and her corpse - which adds interest to this song for me :) This song for me can be about euthanasia done out of true love or about an unhealthy relationship where the narrator has a false, twisted understanding of love and mistakes the killer’s murderous intent as good. Aurora has many melancholic songs but there are many uplifted ones as well :) such as - Queendom - live at Loustic Session 2018 is intimate & stripped back or the live at the KEXP 2018 is energetic with a big audience, or the Music Video, you can choose whichever you prefer! - A Different Kind of Human - live at Christine Radiofestival 2020. Aurora is a very special person. When she sings she lives the song in her head, thats why she conveys emotion so strongly. In her mind she is living the song. Her hand movements are not choreographed, its completely unconscious movement. When she first started singing and getting filmed someone asked her about the hand movement, she did not even realize she was doing it. She is the most authentic person i have ever seen. The song was written by Aurora and was inspired about an article she read about a husband that killed his wife. Auroras wheelhouse is sad songs and she has a fascination with death just a little bit. She is as unique as they come and she marches to her own drumbeat.

Can you think of a better place to present a song, depicting murder as a mercy then at the nobel piece price? As modern and advanced as our world is, and still, the only option they saw was assisted suicide, and not with a gentle needle in the arm, but by a gun. Dark? Yes. Honest? Also yes, sadly. Aurora wrote all her songs. She has also ghost written a few songs for other artists. In the beginning when the record company aproached her, she said no to their offer, she had no dream to be a singer. Initially she only said yes to become a write, because thats the only reason she wrote music, they were her diaries. Also yes, her songs are open to interpretation, some songs are personal, most are observing the world around her, and some are even completely fictional where she takes on characters, like "In Boxes".

This is what Aurora herself says about the song: In an interview with The 405, she said about the song: "It's a tragic love story. Very tragic. The saddest thing is that he really loves her." In an interview, Aurora was asked if the song was inspired by an experience she lived, she said: "I just think it's fascinating how people can be the same people, how you and I need oxygen, can have children, need to be embraced, we need food, water, that we smile at us... we need the same things because we are people. And it is sad, because for the rest of his life, he will not understand and he will be sad." In another interview, she said: "First of all, I have a really vivid imagination. You know that these things may be happening to someone right now. It's kind of a terrifying thought. I just had to get that thought out of my head - and that's why I wrote this song. But the two characters are actually just made up in my head. I've written many songs about them - maybe I'll make a book with them." So good and so reflective. I follow you in your thoughts. I think she intensionally wrote this song (yes, she wrote it!!) for us to reflect just the way you did, and your point on her wanting to highlight what a terrible situation people might be caught in is a very, very good point. I think she has stated herself that this is a love song, though a very tragic one. So now you have seen maybe her two most duets, the first one with Silja Sol, her amazing backing vocalist for many years, and here with Odd Martin Skålnes. He was her companion on many occasions in her early years - a very clever musician. Her early production was darker than her most recent. But it's a fact that she often deals with profound humanistic, existential and environmental issues, and her lyrics are very poetic and open for interpretation. i'd like to recommend for you 3 videos: Exist for Love, Cure for Me, Queendom. Would be really nice. And you know what? You're awesome in this role.

Thanks! Not so sure that I've fully figured this whole RU-vid stuff out yet, but I am definitely having fun doing it. Definitely outside my comfort zone. It's really hard talking to a camera. I have a hard time staring at it...just so odd. It forces me to really listen to the songs at a level I don't normally do (at least on the first listen).So many people have requested Exist for Love, that I'm pretty sure that will be my next one of hers.

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind I would have been terrified talking to that camera, but relax, you're doing great, really pro. Mean it. 😊 Hope you go to the video for Exist for Love. Aurora and some friends of hers did a lot of work on that video themselves in a short period during the pandemics. They made it in a shut down little theatre in Bergen. Aurora's clothes are made by her sister (as very often) and all her pearls were found in their wardrobes and designed for use in that video. Pretty cool. And the song and everything is just magical. 😊

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind another one that's not one of her originals but it's fun and she's cuter than bees knees performing it is Rasputin -Aurora (the Boney M cover acoustic/ live).

So this dark beautiful haunting little song is so disturbing huh? and she's making you think and ponder? that's what Aurora makes you do, she takes you somewhere else and you think, and what's going on here? and yes she wrote the song, very young, which is even crazier and want some contrast? check this one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7YDkrJaiCrw.html&ab_channel=iamAURORAVEVO the most beautiful love song ever! The Viking Fairy Queen is unique, talented and adorable, wise, and insanely cute! I'm 69 and basically a R&R person, musician granpa, found Aurora in 2016 and she blew my mind, she's on my daily soundtrack, and I mean everyday, she always has something to tell me, and talking bout live gigs, this is Aurora live in Paris back in 2018, she puts up some badass show ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8zJPRfeqNIU.html&ab_channel=nfbeer Ok now you got some clues, gotta do your homework granpa, find out more about this extraordinary artist and beautiful human being Peace!

I don't know if someone already explained this, but she wrote this song after reading about a story of a man who killed his terminally ill wife because she was suffering, and it affected her strongly. There is an interview where she talked about it. She wrote it when she was really young, I believe she was 19 in this performance.

She certainly made you think, so I expect she succeeded in her purpose. I think this is a song exploring what it would feel like to cross over into eternity. Other songs by Aurora involve suicides and deaths, so be careful out there! No blue tunnel mentionned in any of them. Great reaction!

I haven't heard a lot of Aurora but I have enjoyed what I have heard. Have you heard Faouzia yet? Her stripped videos (minimal instrumentation) don't seem to get blocked and are pretty amazing. Most folks start with "Tears of Gold". Her performances Live at the Burton Cummings Theatre are worth watching even if it is just on your own.

I'll add my vote for Exist For Love for a happy Aurora song~ While I do like her live versions of it, my favorite is still the music video for that one tbh. Maybe because for the album version of that particular song, she ended up using the vocals from her very first take, so the emotions come through very authentically? And the mv itself is great too imo.

The rather strange thing about " the murder song " is she has this sad slow version, the one on the album is " happy sounding ", like the lyrics are still dark, but my god the music is so damn upbeat. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZAejlfkNCU4.html
