My quick review of recruit training in week one: The turn down service was shoddy, The concierge was rude and unhelpful, The bedding was lacklustre, The rooms have not been refurbished in some time, The bathrooms were third world, The buffet breakfast was the worst I have ever had. I give this hotel one star at best and would never stay here again

When I went through in 1987 we received all our uniforms and kit, a lovely haircut, before and after photos and our SLRs. We then went for a nice casual walk 😳 around the base learning how not to squaregate and the joy of running up and down every hill or around the lonesome pine SW of the rifle range. Once we arrived back at A Coy Lines we were introduced to ironing uniforms and how to set-up your locker correctly, with smiley socks and basic weapons system handling. Oh and let's not forget the near constant polishing of personal brass and hallway brass strips. This was 1987 though so I'm sure things have changed a bit. Hard to begin, especially since there was no such thing as the internet to give you an idea what to expect 🤣

In about 2000 all I did was sand and polish brass any spare moment, the Army seems to be getting incredibly soft as time passes by, it went really soft when the Generals son enlisted and had a hard time some where around 2005 on wards.

My advice for new people is don't be the weak link, don't reveal weakness, always be the first, always do more than what is expected, push your self more than everyone else every PT session get the most out of it, be stronger than everyone else, learn to outsmart everyone, if your are told to grab the 15kg weight, grab the 20kg. You are as only weak as your mindset so mind over matter, convince yourself you are unstoppable and you will outshine people with years of experience in the military, win everyone's respect by doing more soon you'll be commanding them. In your free time don't procrastinate that could be extra time to get things done or extra fitness. Don't be like every other idiot and piss your money away, bank it for an exit strategy.

Took me a long time to find someone decent I was lonely for a long time, because I thought no one was out there, the trick is to believe someone is out there and just open yourself up to people you never no if you don't try, it's easy for us to become hermits and lose hope in all humanity.

If money is the incentive you’re a long way from home. When you come to realise why you are actually able to say you are a volunteer regardless of what life you want for yourself as an Australian that is when things should kick into gear for you truly. When you have a reckoning about you actually being free to work or free to study or free to chill out this hence is why they call us Australia the lucky country you will want to preserve and protect such freedoms for all the generations historically. Thus one of the best incentives from my perspective would be to invest that money or your life savings back into Australia for the legacy of all Australians. This also includes the legacy of our closest allies and good mates as the cream of the crop has risen to the top to have given so much in their contributions. Speaking on this such did take me a while to come down to earth relevant to the substance of such a subject matter. That should then make good sense. Regardless of our own inner monologues of thinking be it what such may is being fought for in self defence due to what our adversaries want to take away from the world no matter which continent therefore the sense of urgency. Most unfortunate for the adversary. You are an experienced man mate to listen in to. Thank you for the rhetoric and for your time spent as well as taken to respond to previous commentary. For me reading your words are like fuel to the fire of the heart and the life blood. This most certainly would not be able to come from Michelle as you have heard it all before. If the pen is mightier than the sword then too you live by your word and such shall be treated the same as a sword although you mete your measure as for a ruler should not be made of an ugly stick. In saying that for some who may read this if you have trouble reading that’s something we can fix call 1300 6 555 06 that’s one three double oh six triple five oh six. On that note mate. Peace…_

Interestingly enough, they now allow for bags with wheels to be wheeled along (at least about 3yrs ago they did). It was left hand only and only bags with wheels could touch the ground but all other bags were to be carried. My assumption is that a lot of dudes had bags that were too big to be carried with any level of professionalism but it was never explained why so I can only guess. Everything else about that first hour or so that you've explained is bloody spot on

Mate I’d say be realistic to your CORP’s choice so no arms roles look at transport, intelligence, maybe MP’s etc and always remember it really is a young man’s game so leave any attitude at the door and don’t expect special treatment due to age etc.. I wish you luck and patience Sir

@inthetrencheswithcas1762

Mate it depends on the individual 29 with three kids and a mortgage I’d say yes stick with army reserve or go to engineers or Intelligence or maybe even signals or air dispatch there are some great tickets to be had.. It’s not all about fitness it’s a young man’s game mentally as well .. Infantry initially needs you to be married to the platoon for at least the first few years..

Sorry I don’t care, Kapooka is not easy and army is about preparing for war I leave the woke bullshit out and expect adults to turn up to enlist and bury their fears and anxieties and replace it with mateship, teamwork, a sense of urgency and purpose and if they do this their success will make them a better and more reliable person that thinks more about the village than their own needs and comforts..

Yes mate the work you put in now not only takes your life back and allows you to celebrate within your skin but also prevents professional failure and physical torture when the end of tasks physically demands more than you can give while losing credibility within the eyes of your team or possibly even mission failure or death of others..
