Enlisted in 1977 and out at 1980. Infan straightened me out, but it is very hard and the pay is crap. Townsville was a $hithole and it's away from anywhere decent to live. A soliders life is a big sacrifice in so many ways. Having left and joined the civilian workforce and studying part time to complete multiple degrees and leading a rewarding career I would say to young men, do well at school, graduate from university and make money, get a great girl and focus on financial, health, spiritual and career. I am grateful to our men and women who serve so that I didn't have to.

In regards to meals. Don't forget fruit and veggies. They give you good sugar for your brain that lasts longer than chocolate bars. Glucose prevents slow brain work and you will need your brain just as much as your muscles 😎 A healthy Grunt makes a happy Medic.

Mate honestly it’s hard for me to deny your words when I put my money where my mouth was in Dog squad 1994 and we did come second to 1 RAR but in defence I was 2/4 RAR then not 2 RAR

Stick with EWO mate. If you're good at your job You'll be able to post to Perth or Sydney to work with SF. This will give you a good look behind the curtain and exposure to all the cool shit they get to do. Best of both worlds.
@@benf9156 Long for me due to medical issues, but otherwise it's been fine. I think the main difference has been the security vetting process which I just started and it's pretty detailed. You can make it easier if you prepare your employment, education, overseas travel and address history for the last 10 years, and the overseas travel of your immediate family for the last 10 years. You'll also need 3 referees with none being family, one of them being a current or previous supervisor, and the rest can be friends but they'll need to be able to comment on 10 years of your life collectively. So, if one friend knew you from 2010-2015 and the other friend knew you from 2015 - 2020, you'll need to use them both. I haven't finished the financial part yet so I can't comment. It's been a bit rushed for me only cause I've been given bout a week to prepare for my enlistment lol, but if you get decent time it's not that bad. Besides that, I think the enlistment process is pretty much the same. All worth it imo, electronic warfare seems like an area that's about to boom.
Your performance decides whether you get one of the positions in the Battalion you want mate the more that want for example 6 RAR the better you had better do to get your choice so to speak. Cheers mate your welcome which Battalion do you want?
Overly it depends on want units need March-ins primarily, however the better you perform then better chance you’ll have in choosing where you wanna go.
The real "herdle" is to rise above the herd. If I get in, I want 2RAR. Reason 1: Amphib is the first on the ground(apart from SF). 2: Descended from 9Div from WWII, Great grandfather's unit.
the28yearoldmale you are correct but not always in modern times sure but before SF were as neo he conventional forces were first and actually the only forces warfare is adaptive and in a contested POI before we had 2nd Commando 3 RAR Were the lads designed to do this and they weren’t special forces either..So both of you have an argument that can support either comment also on larger operations SF may not be used at all

the28yearoldmale 28s a good age and mate 4 RAR wouldn’t have got that gig they were still creating their Commando Model before becoming 2 Commando Regt, 3 were the best large formation for the role especially in a contested space SASR are less expendable and too valuable to throw at a conventional seizure of a air POI. Against our latest militia enemies but not against a conventionally prepared enemy..
can you please explain the difference between 6th, 7th, 8th etc battalion? for infantry ^. do they do different stuff ? what battalion would be most likely to get deployed?

Gday cas big fan long time watcher I’m thinking of joining the army as an infantry soldier I wanted to know with the training at Kapooka and employment training are you able to visit family during your Time their cheers mate
No mate they don't, Army Reserve Infantry will get their Hat Badge for the Regiment they are part of but they are not part of the Royal Australian Regiment, you will get your States Regiment hat badge however.
Depends on the CORP's they go to I think Combat CORP's no older than say 40 gotto keep it realistic Support anywhere up to 50 before joining. Remember in the UK your out after 20 years even if you joined when you were 18 to keep it rolling and allow people to start planning their second lives after their first ten have completed.
G’day Cas I want to go 2 RAR (because I love the water but not the men) and because it’s the best regiment for what I want to do further down the track, what’s the swim test requirement?
Mate good luck with your journey mate the test is 400m in under 16min in uniform with I think 10min tread water and some other stuff thrown in, concentrate on getting Infantry fit mate and you will have a fighting chance like everyone else
oWaves mate you march out on Friday then have local leave in Kapooka then off to School of Infantry on the Monday and harder fitness test tues morning so no break at all really

Hi Cas, I was considering a role in the ADF as an ADGie but i've read and heard they get alot of shit. Is it a bad role or just some people making it look bad? Cheers mate!
It is a shit role. Many ADGie's I have come across say that they are the SF of the RAAF. Nothing could be further from the truth. They are generally dog's bodies doing crap make work. This is coming from someone who was in an arms corps unit in the Army.
Should i become an infantry officer? Is it worth it? I'm 16 and 2 months old, finished year 10 with bad grades, i know you must have the minimum of year 10 with English and Maths passed, so maybe it's not actually an option for me so i have fuxked it up for myself, not sure though. I am clueless on what to do for a job/career, clueless as to my capabilities as well. Maybe this video could end up being the video that changed my life forever. I'm not long off 17 so i have a little while until i can actually apply/join.

Hey mate I'm in a similar situation as you, married with 1 kid and 1 on the way and I'm enlisting 27th July Initially when I pitched it to the wife she was adamantly against it, but communication is key, I kept bringing it up and discussing it when I could and going over positives and negatives and many other factors She still hates to see me go but now understands this is my path and will support me no matter, hope your missus is as supportive
@@djteeke honestly there's little positives I can pitch, medical and dental is a nice bonus to have but won't make up for time to apart, however my wife understands why I am doing this and wants to support it even though it will have hardships. Even as we stand it's hard to tell when push comes to shove what will happen

Always loved Army food. Rations included. Just loved it. Delicous, delicous, calories. Spotted dick, was always my favourite desert, go figure. Not a navy man myself tbh XD
@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 I ended up becoming that ''dude that hoarded rations'' in SOI. Had piles stored in my locker. I became a ration trade bank mate. Ran a ration shop straight out of the lines XD. Every room had kettles and just chucked the rations straight in, great way to warm them up real quick. Saved us so much time going out to get some grub at the caffateria. Hahah good times. Secco got real curious when the whole platoon was missing at every meal time XD. It all ended real quick. Ofc I took all the blame haha. Got absolutely reemed, still remember the punishment after all these years haha. Worth every second mate. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Will gladly take those memories to the grave.

A soldier is not a politician and a politician is not a soldier. Rules of Engagement and in my case Medical Rules of Entitlement are as "Political" as mission briefs, orders and the implementation of said mission and orders get. Worrying about what opinions people and politicians (including very higher ranks) are discussing in the comfort and safety far away from the A.O will cause mental gymnastics that will give you moral injuries you can easily prevent by just focusing on your role and taking care of your mates.
Will well it makes no difference your doing the mission regardless yeah in saying this the what the fuck is going on or a disbelief or trust in the mission can cause PTSD or a lowered morale.. What are your thoughts sounds like you have some>>>
