I moved to Australia in 2017 just after the immigration rules were tightened. I've held 5 different visas (not including bridging visas) and I was in limbo for several years on a 482 STSOL visa not knowing if I'd ever get PR. I went 5 years without seeing my family as I was stranded here during Covid, and I was made redundant twice as my employers downsized due to several lockdowns, which also meant I narrowly missed out on potential PR pathways. HOWEVER..... today I finally applied for my 186 TRT PR application after living in Australia for nearly 7 years. Apparently the waiting times could be over a year but after 7 years of waiting, I think I can manage 1 more year haha All of you out there who are complaining, yeah I know the visa system sucks but it's WAY better now than it was a few years ago. Literally the only thing that saw me through my situation was/is an astronomical level of patience.

Perseverance wins the race, just like me who spent 8 years also on 5 different visas before the invitation floodgate in 2022-2023 FY, and I got one. Hope that your employer don’t kick you out during the whole process and potentially ruin your PR application. It is still a mystery to me that 186 TRT still needs sponsorship but it is what it is.

Happy New Year indeed❤🎉 I want to share that we finally recieved our 491 Visa GRANT on the 20.December. We (family of 4) applied on the 5th of April 2023 and got a 56 Request on 5th of August. While congratulations, that s56 could’ve been avoided if your application was decision ready. It is so important to submit all relevant documents in one go to avoid any s56 and further delay, knowing DOHA may take arbitrary amount of time to pickup your updated application again.

Sorry that is simply not true. Our application was perfect. The case officer asked for a document we already provided. After uploading the exact same document again we fot the grant 4 month later... clearly the case officers fault!

@@CM-ef8fu well…things like this does happen and I feel sorry about it. Could be the file never existed in departmental system despite you uploaded everything. Regardless, the visa is granted and that is behind you. The next 191 should be smooth sailing from here after 3 years, especially considering there is no minimum income requirement for 191 visa.

Hi Karl, I think you forget to mention about 189 invitation round on 18th of December. I always commented stating my instinct says there will be one 189 invitation round just before Christmas break as a gift from Santa and Karl it did happen and I do get the invitation. Finally I can relax and wait for my 189 grant with lots of enthusiasm. Since I am healthcare professional they will be prioritising my visa application which gives me big relief and feels so relieved. I see few people from healthcare who lodge their 189 visa application on 18th of December getting grant on same day and few getting on 21st of December, so fast. Luckily my partner medical is tomorrow and once it done, I am also optimistic of getting grant by January. Also, I am happy that finally DOHA has realised the importance of onshore skilled people visa application and would be prioritising onshore applicants over offshore which is what we all hard working skilled people need as we have spent thousands of dollars and sleepless nights over our education here in Australia and have worked very hard to get invitation in our nominated occupation. Its heartbreaking, that people applying in Dec 2023, are getting their PRs processed in a day and we are still waiting. Does this mean that as more and more priority applications come, they will be processed first, and we will be kept waiting ?

I wonder if this Ministerial Direction 105 will have an affect on already submitted visas for people with 190 invitations from last year. (currently waiting for my 190 application for VIC to be processed by immi with a current wait time of up to 12m or more). What do you all think? Can we expect shortened processing times for 190s too, or just for regional specific visa categories, eventhough 190 was listed? I am an offshore applicant so I am a bit confused if this means potential shortened lead times or actually lengthened lead times due to no "priority" for offshore applicants.

I just had my 491 rejected in December. I applied in September. It says the EOI is still in effect and I dont need to reapply. I applied for 189 in June 2023 and have not yet heard back

They have been prioritizing those occupations for a very long time but still the problem is within the sector itself. A lot of ppl got invited but not working in those sectors meanwhile other occupations are left out. The overall development of Australia society is not only dependent on those occupations. It is just such a short sighted approach for DHA and very disappointing for other occupations.

Hi Karl, Please also become the voice of 476 visa applicants. The department has decided to Cap the number of grants for this visa and the capped number is already reached. Hence, the department has decided to return the Visa Application Charge to all the already lodged applications. This is so unjust to the 476 Visa Applicants. Few of us have been waiting since 2019 and 2020 for the decision. At least, the already lodged applications should get the decision instead of the refund. Please raise a voice for us as well, as you have been doing for so long. Regards,

Happy new year Karl. It has been a roller coaster of 2022 and 2023. Based on Andrew Giles meetings with state and territory governments, does that mean the basis of 190/491/494 will not change in 2023-2024, such as score table, eligibility criteria and so on? As for 476 visas, while it is good for DOHA to put 476 capped message front and centre as soon as you login to your immiaccount, I find it surprising that the system still allows you to fill in a 476 visa application. Maybe when the VAC is paid it would automatically be finalised as invalid and VAC refunded? I have no idea. What’s even more interesting about this 476 visa is there is no mandatory 8501 condition attached unlike 485, and DOHA treats it as if it is some sort of PR visa when they advise visa holders to withdraw other undecided applications, even though 476 is a TR visa like many others. On top of that, any one applicant can only be granted either 476 or 485 once in their lifetime. I don’t know, I just find it really weird.

That capped figure of 3735 Visas is already reached as per the latest FOI. So, no more grants for this fiscal year. It is extremely disappointing and unjust to the already lodged applications.

Hi, Happy New Year I have a question about new policy under Ministerial Direction No.105. I have been waiting for offshore 491 visa grant since 8 months for occupation of Developer programmer. Does the new policy means that it will take more and more time for offshore applicants or they will not consider the application at all. This is really frustrating. I hope you will reply me. Thanks.

Hi Karl once again thank you so much for what you're doing for us. Unfortunately how much we needed to wish A Happy New Year. It is not as personally I am overally stressed about this 35 age restriction for the 485 visa. While this decision is unfair it is also discriminating. I myself is a working mother and started my higher studies after my second son passed away😢as I was struggling with his illnesses for years. Does this mean I don't have the right to fulfill my career or my higher studies. Is being a mom and being married is a punishment? Also Karl while others enjoyed Christmas holidays most of us are suffering from depression due to uncertainity. I myself took this decison with my dependant son to study here on the condition of the 485 opperrunity. Once agian please Karl I personally am not in a position to even start my studies as I am overally stressed 😢. Please help us and voice out this unfairness to all of us😢

Its hard to say, but I have seen people get invites before when I have said their chances are very low.
