I learnt this patriotic song when I was in school in Australia. I immigrated to Canada when I was 15 1/2 yrs old but remember all the words still, and am now 60. God Bless Australia, especially now with all the bushfires. May it end soon.

Oh yeah. There should be a second proposal to make this the Australian National Anthem. I'd gladly sing this. Advance Australia Fair isn't the greatest anthem.
Advance Australia Fair has decent lyrics (even though they contradict a lot of things the government does) but the tempo and rhythm are more like a funeral march, I don't associate it with "I'm proud to be Australian." I associate it more with "HOW MANY MORE F**KING SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES ARE WE GOING TO SIT THROUGH?! WHEN DO THEY END!?!?!?" I'm jealous of the countries with catchy anthems

Exactly. Advance Australia has a sort of pompous quality and has never stuck with me. We say this at school in the 60's and I can still sing along. Waltzing Matilda is perfect, maybe the words could be tweeked a little but this has always been the anthem for me the other felt like a very undemocratic imposition

I was just telling my little fella about this anthem that we used to sing at school after they stopped us singing God Save the Queen ( which I always liked as well). An updated version of this should be our anthem don't ya reckon? I have always disliked the current anthem as it just sounds...pompous? Not aussie anyhow despite the good sentiments. And the unknown second (or third) verse is all about rule Brittania for Cors sake! The whole world knows and loves Waltzing Matilda. Bring her back I says :)
100% this should be our National Anthem when we get this beautiful country back on track , abolish the party system and install true parliamentary representatives to run our country this would be a wonderful anthem

@@manserk6531 It's already pretty much entirely ended and been replaced with Chinese and Indian immigration. Turnbull quietly cut British immigration by over 50%. Many British people have told me they're now being denied visas to move to Australia because the government wants Asians instead.

Your immigration point has no source and honestly, removing the Union Jack has become common. Do I support removing it? Gonna be honest, living half way across the world means I don't really give a shit. The current flag does have it's own iconicness and history, but to be honest, it really doesn't mean much these days. Even still, countries like Canada have changed their flag, and the current Canadian flag looks pretty cool. At the end of the day, it's an issue for the Australian people, so kindly don't bring it up as any kind of argument, because it makes you look stupid.
Now THIS is an anthem Australia deserves. It instills such pure pride to be an Aussie and declares our greatness for all to hear. Bring back Australian patriotism to the forefront.

I remember this song in the late 1960's. I was given a 45" red plastic record in a paper cover with the words on the back. How I still wish I had that record today. In 1972, the local Ampol Service Station issued a Christmas club showbag for kids. The bag included a see through red 45rpm of “God Bless Australia”. The singer was Neil Williams A.K.A. The Jolly Swagman. I remember the crackly disk that was low quality but was quite moving. For some reason, it came to memory today, 52 years later. What a delight to hear it again after all these years but in good quality. (Love that bass!) It is a reminder of what Australia was, and what we have lost. May God bless Australia.

Altough Advance Australian Fair is good. God Bless Australia or Waltzing Matilda gives more meaning and more detail to the history of Australia and being a patriot to it, It also gives more meaning to the love that Aussies give to their nation and other people living in the Commonwealth, I like the three But I Prefer This Or Waltzing Matilda.

I remember as a young boy this song and film clip was played on the TV every morning. I loved it then and now some 50 years later...l feel just as proud of this song.
