Im from Germany, lived in the Netherlands and moved to Vienna 10 years ago and it was the best decision i ever made :) Living costs are affordable, public transport is outstanding and super cheap so i dont need a car, social and medical care is first class, people are way happier and relaxed than in Germany, streets are clean and safe at nights, public services are doing a good job, Wifi and 4G is everywhere, even in the subway you have full signal, the new S-bahn trains are like plane with wifi and powersocket at each seat, a lot of well funded universities, behind every corner you discover a new beautyfull street with Art Nouveau houses, interesting restaurants, cafes, bars,..... I can totally understand those motherloads of chinese tourists coming to Vienna and blocking half of the street in huge sightseeing crowds, because its absolutely awesome here :)

I am living in Munich but Austria, especially Wien has the more foreigner friendly atmosphere and open. Never have I felt warm with the people with here unless they were my friends but Wien, everyone was really happy to connect with other people. You see in the comment some people saying “come to Austria”. I believe Munchener would say “I don’t give a thing about you moving to Munich as long as my space is secured”.

I was planning to move to Germany and now I changed my mind to Austria. Are there any suitable immigration programs for engineers to Austria?

Comparing life and impressions in a small bavarian village with life in Vienna does not make sense xD Vienna is very Special and not representative for the remaining more Traditional parts of Austria. The same goes for bavaria and the remaining regions that differentiate from each other strongly (Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne , Dresden etc)

Have you ever been outside of Bavaria in Germany?😂 Bavaria alone has a higher population than Austria - so the differences inside the country are huge! People from the north are completely different to people in the south. The same with east and west (also because the people in the east lived under communism)

I lived in Austria for almost a decade and am glad to be back in Germany. For foreigners who learn German: Austrians speak their own variety of German sometimes with strong dialect. That is of course totally fine, but it is hard to understand and a lot of them won't switch to standard German for foreigners which I find is impolite and not really appreciative and inclusive. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of nice people like in every other country too, but just have a look at austrian governments of previous years which have included far right parties. One thing I like about Austria is to maintain tradition, which is a good thing when you think about the excellent quality of food you find there or the excellent classical music scene. However, it can be a bad thing if you think in terms of open mindedness especially in the context of foreigners, which are welcomed as paying tourists but you might experience how this changes when you study or work there for longer than some months. When I compare Berlin to Vienna, I find Berlin to be more cosmopolitan with a vivid contemporary art scene but you also have amazing classical orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Vienna reminds me of a dusty museum which certainly is worth a trip and has it's own Charme but I would not recommend to study there as a foreigner.

I’ve just moved to Austria from Munich Germany. Everything seems to be more expensive in here, apart from house rent. Die Miete is cheaper other than that extremely expensive Austria. Not sure if it was the right move.

it seems unfair and extremely biased to compare the capital of one country "Vienna" with the countryside/ small city of another. perhaps your experience in bavaria was unfavourable but this comparison isn't practical

Don't move to Vienna; it's horrid to live there, but a great city to visit none the less.

i am austrian and i would never want to live in vienna or any other City and please stop to say that vienna representates Austria because the other austrians do not like the People from vienna
