Tune in as I unbox and install a chrome set of Autekcomma Roof Rack Crossbars on my 2021 Toyota Highlander. These cross bars are far superior compared to the factory OEM roof racks as they are less expensive, stronger and thicker while coming with a key lock for each of the 4 mounts.

Thank you very much for uploading your thorough review and installation tutorial! We finally got our limited hybrid after an 18 month wait (Canada). I was shopping for cross bars and came across your videos. Very informative and easy to follow. How have the cross bars faired over time, have they weathered well? I notice your Washington plates: I assume they salt the roads in the winters as they do in Canada?

Thanks! The crossbars are still structurally strong and look great. I will admit that I've noticed a slight oxidation to the chrome finish but nothing is peeling off. There also seems to be a bit of rust that is forming at some of the keyholes but still functional so I may add some rust proofing to the 4 areas or cover them with some clear PPF to protect it from the elements.

thanks for the video! super helpful, just did the install myself and this was a great help. Question: any issues with the chrome finish chipping? I use a pressure washer (not high pressure) to wash my car but want to be sure I'm not going to strip the finish, specifically the mount covers.

I've used a pressure washer set on high after two car washes and no issues with the chrome chipping yet, still has the same shine and finish as the day I installed it so far.

Great video. I just bought a 22 Platium white. I notice this brand now sells a chrome and a satin finish nickel finish that seems like it would match the roof rails a bit more. Any thoughts?

Thanks, the silver satin finish would definitely match the roof rails better as it has a matted texture however being 5ft 7inches, I would never notice it unless due to my height! lol I prefer the old school chrome look anywayswith the sky mirroring off the shiny chrome! I'd say go with your gut!

Thanks for the video. I installed the oem rails on my 2021 Limited Highlander. The oem setup is pretty much the same without a key. Oem has a rubber gasket also. The oem supplies a small old style spring torque wrench for installing the bolts. The oem covers snap on the same and are attached on the inside with a tether line to keep from losing them I guess. There is no wind noise that I can tell and no loss in gas mileage. Your set almost seems identical to the oem and is very aerodynamic also, plus the cost is a lot less. I am interested to see which carrier you get.

Thanks for the feedback! It's good to hear that the OEM set also has rubber gaskets. I'm still debating on which storage box to get but so far I'm eyeing the Thule Motion XT (16 cu ft). Did you install one on your Highlander and do you have any recommendations? I'm still open to suggestions!

@@vietbubbletea I have not purchased a carrier yet. There are so many to choose from. I do think Thule seems to be one of the better ones or at least its marketed that way. That is the style I was looking for also. They are kind of pricey but I guess if you want quality that goes with it.

Does the chrome match the color and shine as the stock rail? I like the chrome look on the pearl white color but how sensitive for the chrome to be scratched if the cross bars are carrying a load.

The color and shine matches perfectly. If you go to the Amazon product link, I've added a product review with additional pictures under the username Thanh T. if you want to see the shine close up. I also had concerns about scratching the chrome finish if I install a cargo box so I plan to wrap the crossbars with clear 3M PPF wrap to add an invisible layer of protection.

@Myles Vaughn I hear ya, there's so many options to choose from! I decided to go with the Thule Motion XT Large. It may have 250 lb capacity, but that means the roof can’t take that capacity also. The 165 lbs roof capacity still takes precedence Too bad you can’t get black end caps with the chrome bars

How did you screw the bolt in the top?? My Highlander doesn’t have a hole there. It’s a bracket of some sort?

What year/trim is your Highlander? If you have an L/LE, these crossbars are not compatible since those trims don't have a roof rail.

i bought the same for my 23 hi hy wish i ponied up for the oem. my crossbar wasn’t drilled right. those two screws will not fit in the hole. the only way it would work it to retap the hole. what a hassle

@Glacial Regret I haven't loaded anything on it yet but that will change when I slap a cargo box on top this summer. Still looks great as the day I installed it and still no noise issues or noticeable mpg reductions.

Yup, this will fit XLE, XSE, Limited and Platinum trims. The XSE trim came out later in 2021 so its not listed but it has the same roof rails and the crossbars will fit perfectly.

They're installed beginning at the 11:40 mark in the video. I only filmed installing 1 of the 4 bolts since everyone got the idea as it would be redundant and make the video longer.

Thanks for the response, I have a different trim. Toyota Highlander LE and was gifted roof rails, but I believe they don’t fit the trim that I need. I need the anchors thanks.

@@andrefuller4986 Aha, that makes sense. The L/LE trim doesn't have factory roof rails like on the other higher trims so it wouldn't fit.
