People who kill because of a book hardly ever read one

I must say the security was abysmal at this event, the man has a permanent death warrant on his head.

All because some religious cleric disliked his book sad day for humanity

Imagine belonging to a religion that you have to constantly defend,and are even told to lie to deny uncomfortable truths about it.

Why is the media so muted in their criticism of Islam? I just don't get it...

I bought the book the year it came out in support for a writer whose life was threatened simply because he wrote a book, a fiction at that, that people may or not buy. I went into a book store in a Belgium and looked for it. I could not find it so I asked a salesperson if they had a copy. She looked around and then pulled a copy out from under the counter and quickly popped it in a shopping bag. She looked frightened. At the time I had kids in school and they had friends born and raised in the country we lived in. At a birthday party of one of my kids, a fourteen year old girl explained to me that if she could, she would kill Salman Rushdie and that he deserved to die. I tried to talk her out of it, but it was obvious she had been taught that he was evil and nothing could change her mind about wanting to kill someone because he simply wrote a book. I found that terrifying. Hopefully, she grew up to think her own thoughts.

Any deity so weak it can't handle a book isn't a deity worthy of worship.

They have just made the book more popular than ever..Well done..

Trying to kill someone for the fiction of a fiction is pure madness.

Midnight's Children is one of the best novels ever written. I will be re-reading it this weekend in his honor. May he recover fully and grace us with his genius once again, and soon.
