I have had good results on older clear coat with a hairdryer!
@davidneale530
@davidneale530 3 года назад
I remember a few years back when they revealed they'd researched it properly and found it was the texture of the dropping leaving an imprint on softened clear coat rather than 'etching'. (Worst I had was just from an afternoon at the beach, even cleaned asap) Good to see they now have a user-friendly way to at least try and reverse the process. Even if it doesn't fully work every time, if you then need to remove less clear to finish the job that's a good thing isn't it? Another thought, the worst damage is going to happen in the hotter months, so that's the best time to use it, while the sun is getting the panel hot for you to begin with.

I decided to give this a go after watching your review. 75% chance seemed good enough for me. I had two 50p sized bird poop marks on my boot, put the pack on as per the instructions, left it and came back and the marks were still there like on your failure result. However a quick 10 second hand polish with Super Resin Polish on a microfibre and they came straight out. These were two marks that I'd previously attacked with Meguairs Ultimate Compound + Dual Action and wouldn't budge, I thought a wet sand was going to be in order and this was my last resort. So the fact its gone without cutting into my clear any further is a top result.

John dear sir, they are some shipping or patent laws that ( i am not 100% sure in details) if you put the label , you have some discounts on shipping, also some hazardous listed material can be listed of hided much different in the sds sheet, also with this label brands can protect much more their patent of the products and some other similar reasons why they put label. I know for example that huge ceramic coating brands ,when they put proffecional use only they can hide some sio2,ti02 percenatges from the sds sheet.

Hi Jon, It would have been interesting to have used your thermometer on those heatpacks to see what the required temp was, that way using a heat gun you would know what your max temp should be. Perhaps try the heatgun on a scrap panel with etchings and finish off with that small rotary plus srp as that would introduce more heat again. I wouldn't buy it as much too expensive for me as I am so tight. All the best

I had a nasty etching on the soft paint of my GT86. Ended up wet sanding to get rid of the small mark but this looks fascinating. I've seen videos of people blasting the area with hot air from a heat gun or hair dryer, is this the same theory of melting and 'remoulding' the clear coat? EDIT - Just saw your conclusion, should have watched until the end before commenting.

I attempted the removal with a hairdryer and all I did was melt the cone of the hairdryer. I'm considering getting a heat gun and using the low power of that to do attempt No2. My question is, is it worth it or am I on a lost cause. The bird poop went dry and hard as I was away at work at the time so the etching is quite bad and being black is VERY noticable.

Sorry to hear your freshly painted car is already marked by bird dropping. also sorry to hear that in this instance, Reflow did bot fix it for you. its a friend of his car but its not a case of allowing it to happen, I could go away for a week and come back and its happened, in fact it can happen in a matter of hours. you cant always monitor you car life gets in the way.

Surely you could get the same result by using a heat gun on the affected area ?

Potentially but your could also destroy the paint if you overheat it

i think this is more for plastic panels because a heat gun could cause damage to the plastics

Didn’t it say leave it 10 mins after removing pack? Probably to allow residual heat out of the clear coat
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 3 года назад
yer we had a quick look but even 10 minutes later it had not changed. you can tell when its worked.. not sure why it did nothing. could it be airflow cooling it? could the heat be disipating differently on that panel? could it be to do with the pack not being pressed as hard on vertical panel? who knows.

What about cellulose paint , this is what I deal with every day, I don't do modern vehicles , and the only reason there's clear coat because the painter can't spray 😊

Instead of a heat gun which can easily strip the paint if used for too long, could a hairdryer get hot enough?
@shishuali4821

Ive successfully used a hair drier to remove etchings its takes a little longer but is safer than a heat gun

So it's basically an MRE heater at 10x the price.. still cool though, something different, they're taking a risk and trying to innovate.

I remove bird crap all the time with heat. But i use a heat gun and gradually heat up the area. A lot Cheaper than theae pads as you can use it over and over again. I. Personally think this product is a bit of a con. But the theroy behind it definitely works.

And a gear gun which is designer to ment and strip paint can easily do that to your car This is a much safer option for £5 I’ll pay the 5er

so the reflow bag is 30 quid for 5 applications 6 quid an application. Of course its using the same tech. But they have to recreate bespoke packaging for it and fasteners, printing etc nothing is free and they do all this in house. Its not going to be the same price as the camping heater cooking bags is it? maybe autoglym have used larger quantities of the heating granuals inside it, maybe its been tweaked to heat higher or lower and for different times?? maybe it is not and the MRE bag will work? there will be guys like you that look at things like this and dismiss it which is fine. But there will be other people out there that might have high value cars that have this problem and can use the kit to solve the problem and save themselves a lot of money. put yourself in the mindset of someone that loves there car and needs to solve this problem are they going to go and strap a MRE cooking bag on the side of the car or this kit from autoglym that cost then like a tener extra or something.

Two questions. 1.Why can’t you use it on a car over 3yrs old. 2.Would you be able to use it on a car which say is over 3 yrs but been resprayed say within 3 yrs.

this product uses the same product as the military use for heating up the rations. the best way to do the same thing is to use just a normal heat gun. its very expensive to use this autoglym product you can get a cheep heat gun for about the same price. Also you are better useing a heat gun so you can regulate the heat going onto your pannel better the autoglym will juts heat and heat your car pnnal and thats not a good idea. its called Re-Flowing also if you have the heat gum you can use it too blacken your old black plastic trim. so cool idea autoglym but your better off with a heat gun.
