INTERMITTENT FASTING consuming nothing but Salt, Water, Black coffee, Tea in between meals
AUTOPHAGY 'to eat thyself.' Recycle the cellular parts that are damaged or not being used.
In this video I talk about Autophagy and how to achieve Autophagy through Intermittent Fasting. Intermittent Fasting is a great way to get into a Keto Diet and ultimately what you need to do to achieve Autophagy.
KETONES AND AUTOPHAGY.
Baby Boomers endured the most abuse from the medical establishment over the last 40 years. Before it’s too late, we in the medical establishment might have a few years to redeem some of the atrocious recommendations that your generation lived were given. The science of how your body eats itself is something you should pay attention to and master.

What an excellent, clear, easily understandable video! I'm on day 21 of my first fast. I've lost 45 pounds so far, from 340 down to 295. But the last few days the weight loss has been slowing down and autophagy has been reshaping my body before my eyes. My wife tells me I look 10 years younger. My goal weight is 200, so I have a long way to go but I feel fantastic! It isn't easy but I've been destroying my health for 57 years. Dieting has never worked for me. I finally have the tools to escape morbid obesity.

I recently did a 31 day fast that I ended in March. The pain from arthritis in my knee and a bone spur in my hip went away, after years of pain. I read somewhere that the calcium from a bone spur can get reabsorbed by the body. I don’t know if that’s true, maybe it was just autophagy. I know the weight loss from not eating helped to take pressure off my joints too. The hardest part about fasting for me, was not the fact that I wasn’t eating anything, that actually was the easy part. I didn’t have to buy any food, I did have to meal prep, all I did was drink water. It’s all your friends and associates that automatically become doctors! I did not realize so many people had a degree until I started fasting. Because apparently you can’t survive without eating food, you have to have some calories coming into your body. And they would tell that to the person that’s not eating anything, which always seems to me so stupid. I would have to explain it to them like they were little kids. Do you know when you unplug your laptop and you know how it keeps working? That’s because it has a battery! The fat on my body, it’s like my laptop battery and that’s why I can keep working.

I've been doing strict ketogenic Paleo for 8 years. Fasting is so easy when you don't eat carbs. I often forget to eat meals. The hardest thing about fasting when I was starting off was the fear that I would be miserable. But every time I've fasted, not only did I not feel miserable, I felt great! The problem with fasting discussion is that people keep talking about eating. What part of 'This is not about what you can't eat' don't they get? 'But can I still have my honey lemon tea and rice cake?' Fasting means stop. Stop eating. STOP. Let the body and mind do janitor work. Autophagy.

I've heard of financially frugal going on "financial diets" and "spending fasts" where they vow to not spend a dime for, like, a month. They find themselves using ravaging the house for stuff like the last of old shampoo, the six-month-old ham in the freezer, using up flour to make bread, fixing things with leftover tape and nuts and bolts, etc. At the end, the house is clean and organized. I guess a spending fast induces autophagy in the house.

My energy is awesome my mind clarity is so much better. My shoulder pain I had when raising my right arm is gone. I haven’t felt this great in years. Islamic fasting won't be enough. When you begin eating before the dawn and consume food immediately by sunset ! Obviously, your body has the nutrients to keep you awake. This includes another dinner meal by night. There should be a strict fasting for atleast 16 hours to make autophagy kick in , I'd suggest 24 to a good 48 hours.

@@abc_cba how is it doesn't make sense again?
@abc_cba
@abc_cba 5 лет назад
@@captainobvious90 Fasting for a 24 hour stretch would activate autophagy while Islamic fasting begins with a high calorie breakfast meal in the dawn and fasting (w/o water) from sunrise to sunset followed by a heavy calorific meal after sunset and again at night , leading no gain in autophagy or AMPK enzyme activation. I'm not hating anyone ,simply stating a fact.
@captainobvious90

@@captainobvious90 I know that. I am not attacking Muslims for that (obviously before they attack me) , I'm only stating a fact since Nancy talked about fasting and that she wants to continue it for a year. That applies to Hindu fasting too as they consume food items and call that a fast. I ain't attacking any religion for any matter to be honest.

Thank you so much Dr. Boz for explaining autophagy so clearly ! I'm water fasting and I was almost giving up but then I had read somewhere about autophagy and wanted to know more about it and lo and behold here's your fantastic video on it ! Thank you so much once again, i will continue to fast and let my body repair whatever that needs repairing. I'm 22 and overweight so that's my reason for water fasting. I've decided that I cannot be unhealthy anymore, i just don't want to. I love myself but being overweight I can't seem to do it quite often. I want to be happy and healthy. I want to dance and not have to look like a breathless fish out of water. So anyone who's reading this and is on a journey to better themselves, JUST DO IT. 2 years ago I began alternate day fasting. It was tough as I was eating a diet with carbs. Every fast day was a huge challenge (as I am the only person who cooks in my family) and I hoped I would become adapted and just get used to it. Alas it was a struggle and after a year I gave up. Despite cutting my calories in half I only lost 25lbs. Now on keto fasting is so easy I never feel truly hungry. I breeze through every fast day with no faintness or brain fog. In fact I feel mentally sharper while fasting. I have lost more weight in first couple of months than I did in my fasting year. At 50 I feel I've found performance fuel for body and mind. Who knew it would be fat.

I cut out 95% refined carbs so I went from a regular pasta eater to eating almost no pasta, no white rice, no longer it jam, I cut down on potatoes as I think I may have an allergy even though I loved eating them. This is a great video. Thanks. I am a nearly 70 year old man and have been doing daily intermittent fasting and infrequent multi-day fasts since early 2018. I average about 20 hours of fasting per day. As Dr. Boz says, it revolutionizes one's health. I had persistent high inflammation (CRP > 11.0!!) for years and now it is less than 0.5. A sore caused by frostbite that hadn't heeled in 15 years (not a typo), healed beautifully. I cannot even tell where the sore was. I have also had significant success in healing a medial meniscus torn most of it's length. I've done 7 three-day fasts and two 48 hour "dry fasts" (no water) followed by healthy foods and significant collagen promotingfoods and supplements. I am able to swim, run and play golf again and do these sports quiet well. I am still tentative as I greatly fear tearing it again. As a result of this video, I hope to conclude a 7 day fast BUT this attempt will start with Ketosis as Dr. Boz advises I have read a number of old accounts from newspapers of animals with broken legs and ribs from an accident refusing ANY food or water and then getting up and walking away after 7 days. So I have hope to nearly completely if not completely heal that torn meniscus if I can complete a 7 day fast. I would add a couple things to this video. Circadian rhythms are established by regularly timed eating and those circadian clocks tell the pancrease to release insulin about an hour before the regular eating times. An insulin PROMOTES hunger. So "hunger" can simply be caused by these circadian clocks causing the release of insulin. In addition being dehydrated also caused the release of insulin AND being salt/sodium deficient does as well. So I tell people to get these three things in order first before fasting. (1)consume good pink salt (high mineral) first and let it be absorbed in the mouth; (2) hydrate well afterwards and wait at least 30 minutes if not an hour (it takes one hour for 26 ounces to clear and EMPTY stomach and water thins out the hydrochloric acid) and (3) the first things you eat should be either/both fats and/or leafy vegetables (no sugar, low carbs). So there is a distinction between truly being hungry due to nutrient deficiency VERSUS "hunger" caused by the above.

Watching your video has made me feel even better! I can visualise what is happening in my body right now, and it is so amazing. I thought I may be craving 6pm to arrive so I can eat, instead, I find myself thinking I may wait til morning! Make it an 84 hour, it feels like it would be easy. thank you.

Wow! I’ve been on The IF+Keto life plan since February 6th. I keep plugged in by viewing several Dr’s videos including you Dr. Boz. This word is totally amazing. I am so excited because I am a baby boomer. You have added a higher level of understanding and excitement to my staying true to IF+Keto as a lifestyle. Autophagy! Thank you Dr. Boz!!! I wish you the best as you are living your purpose in helping others. God Bless you.

How fascinating, really, this is so interesting and inspiring! Another good reason to get my keto/carnivore journey started. You are so good at educating us, the way you explain things makes it easy to understand and also interesting. You’re gifted with that trait. Thank you.

This is so interesting. It explains all the results that I could feel and see without understanding why. I had stopped telling people because they thought I was stupid or crazy. But yes the feeling of well-being when switching to a non or low-carb diet, coupled with intermittent fasting is fantastic. Thank you!!!

One of the best videos I've found. I have been slowly figuring this system out through trial and error. I'm in ketosis, intermittent fast regularly for 24 hrs, basically one meal a day and sometimes fast for 48-72 hrs and feel like a million dollars afterwards. I've lost 100lbs, and don't have skin hanging. You've got a subscriber here! Very interested to learn more, now I know it's called autophagy. Thanks!

GreatPlainsChaser how many calories do you consume on OMAD and I’m sure you’re carb intake is low correct?
@chrisrice1404
@chrisrice1404 5 лет назад
@@darylyoung7675 - I've never counted calories. All I look at is carb minus fiber=net carbs, and keep it very low like 20 or less per day is ideal, and only count carbs from stuff that really hurts like bread, not veggies. Hope that helps.

GreatPlainsChaser congrats! I am a little confused maybe you can help... will exogenous ketones or sugar free electrolytes break my fast? I’ve been on Keto for 3 months. My “fasting time” is 23 hrs every day-I’m doing OMAD and under 15 carbs for my one meal per day. I am fine with losing another 5 pounds but I’m mostly wanting to reach autophagy and increase growth hormone.

I'm 65 and a babyboomer. Did as doctors told me and lowfat diet. I ditched the MDs and lost 80 pounds and I'm fat adapted and use the tools of fasting and IF Keto. I feel for the young kids today who are all much fatter than i was at 25 years old. MDs have not changed so i pray they watch you on utube.

Is easy! Start cutting down to 2 meals per day from the usual 3 meals per day until you only eat once per day. Then eventually work your way to 1 meal every two days until you finally don’t ever eat again!

The thing about this is that people in biblical time were fasting regular and they lived longer then now

Jacob Jorgenson America? what are you talking about? lol im talking about 3000+ years in the past... not america.. in the past the average was lower... people either died when they were babies or lived to be very old.. that makes the average in the middle..not that everyone lived to that age then died suddenly at 40.. the death rate of babies were soo high that it brought the average waaay down

Thank you for a clear & concise explanation of this phenomenon. I am new to IF and will now make a shift towards Ketosis to aid in cell cleanup. My father had Alzheimers and I've often wondered if this will be my fate, as well. Autophagy is key.
