I was offered Ozempic by my doctor. I am a female, 53 years old, 5’7 and was 205 pounds. I have tried many diets too. While I have not hit peri menopause yet, I do worry about additional weight when I do. I said no to the Ozempic and simply eliminated almost all sugar from diet, I eat whole foods, proteins and veggies. Almost no fruit, no juice or soft drinks. Pasta, rice and potato is a rare treat. I eliminated snacking. As I work night shift, I eat one large meat during the day and a tiny meal on my lunch break at 4am. I have committed to also going to the gym at my work on my lunch break and do light weights. I do a lot of walking. In a few weeks I have lost ten pounds and I am 195 today. The journey continues.

In addition, try Intermittent Fasting 18/6 Daily with Last Meal before 4 PM and then 24 - 48 Intermittent Fasting once every 12 days. Intermittent Fasting is much better for true Autophagy and truly losing weight and reversing Diabetes and OBESETY.

what she say is not the whole truth. the bariatric is with the skin and a size issues because the surgery is way more agressive that any diet. the skin problem is because you lose the weight way too fast like is 500--800 calories a day for a body that needs 2200-2500(plus exercises), and the size could be the same problem cause with so low calories usually low on protein and almost no exercise(post surgery), anyone will lose a lot of muscle, and muscle is way smaller than fat, so she could easily lost 5--10 pounds of muscle more than needed in the process. another thing that is alot of bullshit is her metric and her graghs, anyone that is consuming less calories than needed to maintain your bodymass. gets in to autophagy(a lot of papers proving that already), some authophagy is good a lot of it maybe not that good(research needed but you could be destroying some cells with autophagy in excess that you have to remake it right in your next meal) autophagy do not break only old and junk cells, and if is always high they break what is easy to break(especially if in need of fast energy). and if it was all true the best way would be fasting like 36 hours than 1 big meal, than fasting again 36 hours, the big meal would take like 8-12 hours to digest , and get 24+ hours of autophagy(no ups and downs, and don't need to be testing )

I got up to 168 10 years ago (peri & menopause age 48) and started a whole plant food based, high starch diet. I did lose about 10 pounds and was able to maintain there easily (even though I moved to Mississippi)😆. However, I was stuck there and could never seem to get below 155. Less than 3 months ago I decided to try Keto so I could break my addiction to nacho chips (my cheat food) and corn tortillas so I could get into my old ski pants. What a paradigm shift! I hadn't eaten any animal products or even oil for 10 years(except what was in corn chips, or other times I would cheat on my lifestyle diet). Wow! I lost 10 lbs within a couple weeks. I platueued at 152 but learned about IF and extended fasting. That helped me break under 150 down to 147, only 2 pounds over college weight. I love the convenience of OMAD ( compared to eating 5-6 times/day) and am amazed how well I handled 24 to 63 hour fasts. Since I am used to eating lots of vegetables the shift to a mostly whole food keto has been fairly easy. I just carry canned asparagus and sardines in my car in case I can't make it though the 23 hours to OMAD
@jacksquat4140
@jacksquat4140 Год назад
The weight you lost while on Keto was most likely water weight. I lost 20 pounds in two months, but did not lose another pound over the next 12 months. I ate twice a day, with an intermittent fast ratio of 16-8. Many days I ingested zero carbs, but never went over 30 on any given day. I felt sluggish, had bouts of sleeplessness, and never felt fully alive. There must be a better way. I've noticed the Keto priesthood is always selling something, so I generally don't follow those that do. Be well.

I have to say I was so uncomfortable with muscle cramps on Keto. Nothing helped, no amount of magnesium etc. My liver would also twinge. So I read the Mastering Diabetes and went back to low fat vegetarian. It's all individual. Recently I've found berberine makes a huge difference and I'm about to try apple cider vinegar
@biankablack5600
@biankablack5600 Год назад
@@jacksquat4140 So I've had a totally different experience with keto. I've lost 66 lbs since 2021 most of it in my visceral fat area. I do IF and keto and my carbs are roughly 20-60 a day- but I don't really count them I just eat high fiber keto veg. I don't eat any processed foods and no fake sugars either. I haven't lost 66 lbs of water. I never feel hungry anymore like I did when I ate sugars and starches. I have increased my muscle mass and at 50 I'm in the best shape of my life. I feel amazing. My inflammation and my autoimmunes are better. I think you can do keto wrong, buying products or eating processed food is the wrong way. You can do any eating approach wrong.

@@jacksquat4140 too true, hormone issues are a major factor and stress really effects them too. I had colon cancer and my weight gain increased in recovery do to the stress. Cutting out sugar alone will change your body to a more normal look. Mine did after I cut sugar, and that was before I did keto. Eventually I lost 65 pounds, but I did not go on a diet the first four years. I just cut sugar, sugar substiturs, gluten and processed foods. After going on keto I lost an additional 35 or so pounds over two years. It took me longer than most people because every ten pound loss was a strong plateau, which there is a medical reason for. Stay on track and enjoy your new body!

First time ever seeing this Dr, awesome!! Keto 4 years, felt great, high fat carnivore past 2.5 months, feel like $1M !!! I’m 61 yo and I weigh 160 lbs. I have felt “stuck” but don’t feel fat at all. I love sardines and I’m so happy this Dr promotes them, will definitely start sardine fast Monday morning, very excited to do that!! Look forward to binge watching her videos!!! Will add that when I was 14 yo put myself on Adkins, I saw him on Mike Douglas 🤭, I lost 40 lbs over the summer break from school. When I looked in the mirror I couldn’t see the weight loss because I just saw ME! Not fat me or thin me or pretty me or….I just saw ME!! Only way I could tell I had lost weight was putting on old clothes which were HUGE, and the scale didn’t lie🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ Blessed to feel so great at my age.

Also add Intermittent Fasting 18/6 and 24-48 hours Fasting on water every 12-15 days until you get to Ideal Weight (calculated by a formula and not subjective). Also weight exercises and stretching and gym machines for Cardio every 3-5 days a week would help you tremendously!

Keto-Carnivore for almost 3 months now, weight loss is slow (59 y/o, post menopausal w/o pred or diabetes) - 22 lbs so far, but my glucose has been great and ketones consistently 3.0-5.5 without supplementation, but I typically eat in a 6 hour window most days starting early in the day. Never heard about the sardine thing. I love them, but they don't love me back. Seem to get a histamine reaction, heartburn when I eat them or would love to try this. Regardless, I feel fantastic, off BP meds, anxiety is almost completely gone, more energy, don't get out of breath when exerting. Love this WOE. Still doing buttered coffee in AM, maybe should try cutting that out. I am finally able to drink just water without something in it too, which is amazing to me. Great info on autophagy.

What you started talking about at about 36 minutes in...was me...Oh, my goodness! That is exactly how I felt when I got into a size 8. So emotional, I'm about to cry now talking about it. When I said to one of my good friends, that I have been overweight for over 25 years and my youngest child who was 21 at the time (today she is 22) had never seen me under a size 20! When I look at myself in the mirror, I still don't see a person who has fixed her life, her eating habits, her mindset, etc. I went and gained 10 pounds recently (on purpose) because I let peer pressure get to me. Where people were telling me that I looked 'too skinny'. I did, I let it get to me and put on 10 pounds (it was difficult, very difficult) because my eating habits had changed so much. I was used to fasting and getting my body into autophagy. I was used to eating a low-carb diet. I started eating more meat and eating fewer sweets when I'm just sitting at work. Anyway. What you said there just resonated with me and I felt that I had to share. I love your content!!!

What weight and height were you when everyone was saying you were too skinny if you don't mind me asking? With keto, as long as you're getting enough healthy fats in your diet, you can be thin but you won't look sickly skinny bc the fat makes you look at youthful and balanced.
@reInspireRe

It can be challenging but we cannot and will not ever change the opinions of others. You'll either be too big, or too small, now you look sick, oof you gained it back. I wish we would never comment on others body's.. So we have to be strong and know we are doing the right things for ourselves, our bodies. They will still talk but you will get stronger, then so will your response, then soon you'll stop responding altogether. P.s I've said, no, not too thin, just the right amount of healthy. I just bought your books and I am really loving your vids. You are the first Doc that is able to explain all that is happening to my body and all the failures and things that did happen in the past which no doc at all could explain into this detail than you! I listen to other docs on the carnivor/ketovore diet too but you are the best for me. I am a severe diabetic and I bought a ketone meter too and did most of the things you explained as to eating windows fasting alternate and getting to the most extreme one and not dying from it! Haha. My hba1c is down from up anywhere to 13 to about 7 now in 2,5 months!!!! I ditched Ozempic totally and I am only on 1 gluclazide now from 3 next to the Ozempic. I had Ozempic face already and I stopped because it was detrimental to my eyes. I damaged my eyes by using Ozempic which I didnt want too but I was finally convinced because I could not loose weight anymore and I had too. I am down 22.5 lbs in 2.5 months and down 2 dress sizes. I did have some stalls which went away by me just persevering changing my eating windows, fast here and there just change it frequently so my body didnt know what was coming next and didnt hold on to the weight that much. There are struggles I admit but I have gained so much good things already I am not willing to give in ever again. Thanks for educating me (us) and keep up the good work Doc! Love you for it! Wow thank you so much for explaining so much so clearly. After 24hrs of finger testing for the first time and seeing that my ketones rarely go above 0.9, I’ve decided to push past 20hrs of fasting and now I am at 1.9 ketones at 22hrs! My current ratio is 45 and I do feel 100% fine even though I could definitely eat, it is not a very distracting hunger at all and it is not interfering with my day at all. I am so surprised because I don’t really believe in fasting but now I am really trying to chase some autophagy. I will def make it to 24hrs and will consider a 36 hr fast next week. It is cool to have numbers to help one see what is actually going on in the body. By the way, I ate one avocado and had 2 large cups of coffee with mct oil. So it’s not even that huge of a fast. My eating window now is usually 4am-12am, since i get up very early and go to bed early as well. So glad I saw this because I’ve been researching Ozempic and thinking of asking my doc about it at my next appointment. I’ve been D2 for a few years now. Making some improvements but not nearly enough imo. But I had the SAME question about HOW you can lose weight in the presence of insulin. UPDATE: My doc suggested Mounjaro instead of Ozempic and I couldn’t be happier with the results! Three weeks in and my baseline blood sugar is down significantly AND I’ve naturally lost about 5 lbs so far with no feeling of deprivation or struggle. Plus I’m sleeping straight through the night (8hrs!) and not waking up in the middle to pee due to nighttime sugar surges. 😃 I also had a two week free trial of a CGM that I inserted a few days before my first Mounjaro shot so I was able to watch in real time as my stats started improving. Even though my insurance won’t cover the CGM, I’m convinced I want to continue with the shots even if I can’t monitor the improvements. 😃😃

Hi! Thank you so much for the info you have shared. I am a new subscriber and am just wondering, regarding the sardine challenge, if there is a substitute for people with a histamine sensitivity?

I hadn’t thought of that. I’m glad you asked the question before I embark on it I too would like to know an alternative

@@ann-mariecoombes632 Unfortunately, Ann-Marie, I haven't yet received a reply, altho' it's been a month already. But I'm guessing there really isn't a substitute, since she has said she chose sardines for their specific fat-to-protein ratio. So I am currently waiting to buy fresh or frozen sardines, when they again become available in my area. If I hear of a substitute anywhere else, however, I will save your comment and try to remember to come back here and let you know.

@@houseofthegreaterdanes2807 You know, H, I have seen several requests now for info on substitutes, but no replies yet from Dr. Boz. So I suspect she doesn't really know what to substitute, since she did say she chose sardines in oil for its ratio of protein to fat (and probably it's Omega 3s). So after reading your question, I've started wondering if one couldn't just substitute eggs, or at least egg yolks (if sensitive to the whites); add in good quality olive oil and maybe a 1/4 tsp cod liver oil (if you can tolerate it); and use that! After all, there IS already a popular carnivore diet challenge where one only eats eggs for 3 days or something. (I forget the details.) So since a can of sardines has from 18 to 22 grams of protein, it would take only 3-4 whole eggs or 6-7 yolks to equal one can. And that plus maybe 1/2 to 1 Tbsp EVOO might do the trick! For myself, I recently had a can of sardines without a histamine reaction, so I will give myself a couple more weeks of healing and then give that a try. But if I react, I will then try this egg version myself. Good luck to us both!🤗

Hi Dr. Boz. I absolutely love your content and can listen to you all day. I'm a 54 year old male, 6'2" tall and weighed in at 371.1 lbs. this morning. I struggle with night eating and tend to do better with managing it if I eat later in the evening, around 6-7pm. I would typically eat carnivore with my window being 12pm-6-7pm. If I remain strict carnivore with < 20 grams of carbs per day will I eventually reach autophagy? Should I shorten my eating window to 2pm-6pm? How to you tell if you are insulin resistant? Thanks again for all of the information you are putting out.

I know you are looking for a Dr. Boz response, but I am compelled to answer. Just start at the place that will give you the most success. Once you're on the journey, losing weight, etc, you'll automatically tweak things, experiment, etc. Initially, give yourself the best opportunity to get results. If that's eating at midnight, eat at midnight. Just get going, and get out of your own way. Things will fall into place from there. What works for others may not work for you. With ❤️

@@jackfoxxx68 It is a mind thing for sure - I deal with the same issues. What I found is - that if I eat more fat - real butter or even a spoon of nut butter in the evening, it deals with that issue just beautifully. I am not strict keto or carnivore - I go back and forth between both, but I do intermittent fasting every day with a varying eating window of 4-6 hrs most days. When I really load up on eating fats - I am never hungry or even tempted to eat. Food simply doesn't interest me then. Also - brushing my teeth when I start getting cravings, and rinsing with essential oil waters works for me as well [that's when the mind thing is @work, not the stomach]... I've done my first 70 hr fast and it wasn't all that bad - not so much hungry, rather than pre-occupied THINKING about food. I'm getting ready to do a 48 or even 72 hr fast starting tomorrow again - I allow myself to be flexible without forcing myself - I am my own best motivator!

For me, my night eating got better when I began to have more hobbies and meaningful extra skills. When I get off work, I write, I draw , and I study for programming to create video game mods. These are all cognitively intensive and using my hands, so I can’t mindlessly eat nor am I thinking about it because I’m so focused on the task. Night eating is probably just a habit you need to break with another healthier activity that brings you the same kind of joy or dopamine hit

1) With the sardine challenge, can you substitute canned salmon or tuna? Or does it have to be sardines? I’ve tried them once but am not really a fan. 2) With keto and carnivore, I’ve heard about not counting calories as much. How do you make sure you’re eating enough calories in the day but not too much or too little? And what would too little be considered? I’ve heard about trying to not go under 1200 calories yet am wondering how these numbers came about. How much did people years ago eat (such as in colonial times or pioneers in the 1800s)? 3) Does Metformin make autophagy harder? I do take that for Pre-Diabetes. I’m trying to get back into keto (more meat based than plant based, although I do like berries/low carb fruit, and eat some veggies here and there. I have low iron without anemia so eat meat for the heme iron). I am looking into a breast reduction surgery if insurance can cover it. I mostly currently eat between 11am and 7pm. I get up around 5am most mornings for work (I usually have to be at work for 6am) so don’t eat before work as I don’t want to get up even earlier and need time to brush my teeth and not have food within 20 minutes of doing that).

I believe you can substitute almost any canned fish as log as it's fatty. I personally like Kippered Herring over sardines. I would compare the fat content on the can/package with the sardines. I believe the lack of carbs and a lot of fat both contribute to ketosis. The lack of carbs, being essential. Dr. Boz has at least one short video dedicated to the sardine fast. Search for it in her channel.

Breasts are predominantly fat. I would hold off on rhe breastvreduction till after your weigh loss journey. You may end up rather flat chested if you get the surgery before hand.

@@velviemckenzie6473 I had my reduction surgery in July. I’ve actually never liked being big on top so told the surgeon I wanted to go as small as possible. I’m about a B cup now. And if I was to go down to A through exercise/diet/weight loss, that would be fine with me. Not everyone likes large breasts. Plus, there are ways to pad up a bra a bit if desired.

I lost 60 pounds easy peezy keto . Got about 40-50 more to go , but now I’m in menopause , constantly feeling starved , definitely too much fat consumption especially in the morning coffee from 7-10am . Lots of loose skin . I need to take her wisdom and teaching serious and dump everything I thought I knew and that previously worked for me . Do know that my morning glucoses are between 110-120 , they were 150’s before I started keto 2 years ago . At this point I’m on dirty keto to just maintain but no longer have that abounding energy nor feel full for hours like I used too

see Dr Ken Berry's vids on Proper Human Diet. you are probably getting too many carbs. if you are always hungary, definitely too many carbs and not enough fat. switching to carnivore can help get you back on track... Beef, butter, bacon and eggs are my friends!!! The PHD cured my NAFLD,pre-diabeties, CKD, high BP and increased my testosterone. early morning glucose elevation can be the Dawn Effect. See Ben Bickman vids on insulin resistance. you could also be a cholesterol hyper-responder. see Dave Feldman's vids on LMHR.

High fat helps with hormonal health, especially in women. It helps skin looks better, including getting rid of stretch marks and cellulite. Not sure how much fat you’re having, but most people aren’t having enough or are having the wrong kinds (vegetable/seed oils, trans fat). When you fast, clean fast with just water, tea or black coffee, then have your fats when you eat.
