I ordered my new computer yesterday, so hopefully this system can deliver all of the parts today!

@evilfish2000 I guess it depends on what you need from your system. If you have a large warehouse and don't need space efficiency , then Kiva could be your solution. But if you need to use every square foot of your warehouse to save rental costs, heating cost etc. Then AutoStore is your thing. The bin distrubution is always being arranged to have fast-runners on top, while Kiva would not have this feautre; storing both fast and slow goods in the same shelves.Pick performance and cost is similar

I have worked with autostore for a week now.. Not tried the Kiva system doh.. But Autostore works very well and is fast.. With kiva you will take all the products of the self to yourself but with autostore you only take one bin.. And if your good you can pakc 2.6 products per minut so 160 in one hour..

This actually sounds like its using less storage but it is not, that is what if all my SKU units are not able to fill the bin storage to the max, because my assumption is that it uses a single storage bin for each sku given its quantity, but even if it stores multiple sku units in a single bin the time it takes to retrieve the bottom most sku will definitely be a lot more time consuming than other type of asrs systems.
@w.d.4590
@w.d.4590 8 лет назад
+Uday Bhargav , yes indeed, throughputs will be limited with this type of solution. Time to retrieve is very long, and most warehouses these days have higher and higher throughput requirements and still need to use less space.

You can have multiple SKUs per bin, or multiple bins per SKU. We are using this system quite effectively in our high-volume, high-traffic facility.

I think they still do the large bits the old fashioned way. I have been inside that warehouse several times, and they have a lot of shelves with large stuff.

So who actully owns this idea because Ocado Retail seem to have a more advance system like this and they say they invented it?

Actually, its only 5-6$ if you choose to pick it up yourself. Otherwise, its still 5-25$, which is not that much, because on most sites (international) it costs like 40-80$..

Could this system handle frozen and refrigerated content such as food? Think how awesome it would be if you could just upload your shopping list from home and then just fetch a box or bag at the store.
@vilandiris2612
@vilandiris2612 7 лет назад
I don't see why not as long as the robots can operate in a cold environment. :)
@alyssonrossi7427
@alyssonrossi7427 6 лет назад
I think that, frozen food would stay in other area stored in grid boxes instead of bins, and with appropriated refrigeration. In this case de picking would have 2 steps.
@saturnGEEK
@saturnGEEK 5 лет назад
If the boxes were refrigerated containers, it could be possible. If each container contains an inbuilt battery and each rail had a hot-swap style power connector, the containers can remain refrigerated.
@KjetilBalstad
@KjetilBalstad 5 лет назад
@@saturnGEEK Adding a cooler unit to each container would take up to much space in the container. And when containers cool their internals they produce heat externaly. With this many containers producing heat next to eachother while trying to cool down their internals, this system would break down very fast. They would need to build a cooled environment and have the robots move inside it. As cool air is heavier than warm air, the air above the tracks could be a little varmer than the air below the tracks, much like an open cooler in supermarkets etc, however it would still be cold.
@evilfish2000

@Mannafett I think it's hard to compare them actually. Been reading up on the systems for fun. AutoStore is by far the best in space efficiency, but it has limitation when it comes the size of goods, where KIVA can handle large item. I do not know about wieght limitation for autostore, but i KIVA can have fiarly heavy TV sets.

@Kagstrom2100 I'm sure that they would scan all items going in and out of the bins. This would be very easy to track inventory. Otherwise how would the box know when it was empty?

Hi, I want to use this presentation for a training purpose, can you please help me know how do I proceed with it?
@copypasteism
@copypasteism 12 лет назад
@jeffreyindri She tells it in the end :) The system figures what items are used more often and puts the in the top. Then if they need some of the less frequently used items, it plans ahead and yes, it digs into the columns :D

But what if i have products that are bigger in size .. like let say .. 1m×2m ..... what then .. will it still fit to the automated storing system ...?
@KjetilBalstad
@KjetilBalstad 5 лет назад
It would only be a matter of scaling. However, it's not part of the Autostore default product line. Also, having objects of this size, unless they are very light materials, would make handeling at the picking area a bottleneck.

They are battery run, haven't you heard? Momentary electricity cuts won't effect it. Tho most commerce buildings like this have their own generators anyways, workers can't work without lights after all, even if the robots could...

Super exciting tech. Done by underpaid production workers in Poland. Who after their monthly paycheck are forced to lead life from month to month. Only high up "creme de la creme" is getting all the bonuses and rising sallaries. Others hear only, that we will produce more, when sallaries of decent workers are the same for years. Most hillarious fact is thing, that production is organized without warehouse with their own tech. Instead of robots, there are cramped spaces, where it's easy to get injured. Polish workers for Norway are the same as Chinesee workers? Probably....

@marezio52 society I believe. Frees up manpower to do other tasks. No good reason to manually do anything just to create jobs. Wouldnt that be a bit like makebelieve jobs, having more people working something than whats actually needed? :) Efficiency is always worthwhile if you ask me.

Foreign language discussion is irrelevant, foreign language characters are especially irrelevant and even detract from efficiency in an era of rapid globalization. Use pinyin at a minimum to dissect and contribute to discussion. This optimization at the micro level will have have macro effects on the greater supply chain within 5-10 years. Amazon's utilization of Kiva systems is more cost effective as no significant infrastructure additions are needed. Interesting nonetheless.
