I have flown my traditional FPV drone into a chain link fence. Pulled it out of the fence. Bent the prop back to kind of the correct shape. Then, I flew it again a few minutes later. The avata props feel cheap. Like they'll break if they get a defect. I dont even land my avata in the grass, lol. Always examine your props before you fly. Especially the OEM props.

The props on the avata are close to the ground. Every time you fly kind of through things like tall grass and small branches, you risk damaging a prop. Just get dji care refresh, and always check your props before every flight.

Thanks, Sean for the review. Im well aware of the possible prop “explosion”, as I know several of my fellow drone pilots have experienced prop failures in the past 3 weeks. I’ve never had a problem, again, like you, I’ve be a camera drone guy till I got the DJI FPV, and then the Avata. I still have not flown either of them in manual mode. I have purchased the 4 blade Master Airscrew props, but havent installed them. I’ve always stayed away from 3rd party props, with the belief that the drones were designed with the OEM, and tested over and over, prior to market. I’m now undecided about using the 3rd party props vs OEM, but your review, as well, as Ian’s, which I saw previously, makes me want to continue to use the OEM, but taking extra precaution to check them more rather than just looking for physical damage. Looking forward to meeting you in Tennessee, as ell as my home State, The Great State of Texas, in the coming months.

Hey Sean. I watched Sean's video the other day and said "uh oh, DJI may have a problem here". I was thinking the SD card cover may be part of the problem. We'll have to keep an eye on this. Thanks for the update.

Hey! Yeah, it worried me because Shawn is an experienced drone pilot and knows his stuff. Interesting on the SD card, especially as DJI puts the warning in the goggles until you clear it, so it is definitely something they are concerned about. Will be one to watch for sure!

There is a set length shank on the prop bolt you would need to be very heavy handed before you would screw the shank down through the top of the motor, the inhex would round of first. I recon its just fatique, seems there's a lot of failures happening all of a sudden, might be the first round of these drones that were sold. For the sake of a couple of dollars for a set of props keep spares change them out more frequently. Also whether the motor sits above or below the arm has no effect on direction of air flow, so dust and particle damage on the blades is the same either way.
@DC-mj4lx
@DC-mj4lx Год назад
Quads like FPV drone and Avata have potential to self explode props because they use a mount system like off center screws (Avata) or the push fit props on the FPV drone. The torque of the motor puts stress on the prop off center. Hard throttle or sudden changes in throttle can stress the prop causing this issue. It happens less on a traditional 5” quad type since they use a center mount with a single nut. Those quads what tends to happen is the nut simply unscrews and the prop slips. Short of it is both Avata and fpv quad by design is not well suited to sudden change of throttle.

Had a prop blow up on my Avata today. Nov 10th 2023. I had just flown onto land from the ocean when it blew, I heard a loud pop and it came down into the only bush around right at my feet. no damage other then the prop. Ive never crash my avata or damaged my props, never over tightened them and checked them today before this flight just like this video shows to. I would have to say there is an issue with them and im not sure what I will do next? stock or after mkt?

What does "overtightening" mean? Not literally, but what the tightening torque value should be? Does anyone knows? Usually it should be written on the screws ...

Mine exploded hand catching it. So do this test. Put it in sports mode and launch it then grab the battery and flip the drone it to turn it off. Do that like 20 times and I bet one of the props explodes. It revs the motors really hard when you flip it to get it to shut off and that's when it's likely to explode a prop.

@@Geeksvana Air Photography was in Sports mode I believe. I think you'll find that is a commonality that makes it more probable to happen. The stock ones are too brittle and don't have enough flex in them thus they break.

@GenilsonOficial

I still believe there is a design error and maybe they launched it hastily, the rollover that is its trademark is indicative of that. It's a heavy drone for more extreme flights, and something I noticed is that the propellers break on the screws, making it clear that that region doesn't have enough resistance. Several people have shared videos often flying slow on their second or third flight of the avatar and the propellers break like cookies. The alternative I see is using third party propellers and expect a fix for this in Avata 2.
@mikedrennen7971
@mikedrennen7971 Год назад
That's interesting. I have not heard of this issue, but also know nothing of the Avata. I've always assumed that T mount props were just way more prone to weakening due the the perforation of the hub. It's not uncommon for me to have a T mount prop explode like that (break in 2 along hub and screw holes) on my pusher cinewhoops, but I just have always written it off as a side effect of the props. (I also use and reuse old beat up props). I think that mounting design is just prone to fatigue.

I fly FPV daily. It is unlikely that my props last longer than about 10 flights before they are changed. I do have an Avata which I do love, and it has only just occured to me that I have never changed the props. They are plastic, they will fatigue, why wouldn't they fall apart after a few hunderd million spins at a few hundred G.... Im going to start changing them frequently. The one dude did say, they were the same ones from the factory... he had never changed them. If someone said they had the same tires on their car ever since they bought it, then they gave out, then we wouldn't really be surprised. Props are a servicable item.
@danielhoffmann67

The destructive effect of "loctite" (and all other kinds of anaerobic screw glue) on the common plastic materials of drone propellers is absolutely underrated. The pre applied blue material on some screws like the ones of the Avata is not "loctite" but a special kind of screw fastener which works very different than "loctite" and does not destroy plastic propellers. So never use "loctite" or other anaerobic screw fasteners to secure the screws of your propellers !

Not seen this issue at all… but the material used to make the props is not great, it is brittle.
@crisnmaryfam7344
@crisnmaryfam7344 10 месяцев назад
Its designed that way on purpose. If they were too stiff and not brittle to some degree, when they would contact things Worse damage would happen as more energy would be transferred into the shaft of the electric motor and thus its internals. If the Rotor/Prop blades themselves break, it gives an extra level of protection to the rest of the craft.

I’ve had master air screw props self explode on my DJI FPV drone. The props were new. Props certainly can self destruct due to manufacturers fault of the prop. Yes of course they can be weakened by a crash, but it’s a fallacy to say props cannot explode by themselves.
