The sheer, bittersweet tragedy that comes with Zuko embracing his full identity at the end of the episode, only to then be immediately rejected by the same people who had welcomed him with open arms a day ago, is enough to rank this among the BEST episodes of the show
Zuko: Sees a poor couple camping. Zuko: Grabs his sword Family: Is preggo Zuko: Rides away Family: Did you see that, a starving boy, if he stopped by we possibly could have helped him.
Correct me if im wrong but I believe Azulon's death and Ozai becoming Fire Lord all happened before Iroh even made it back to the Fire Nation. Its like Iroh's entire world just got flipped upside down in the span of a couple weeks
"The fuck kinda recruiting is that? You have him tied up!" HAD ME DYING LMAOOO Really excited for the next reaction, next episode is one of my personal favorites from Book 2.
HYPEEEE IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS EPISODE SINCE THE BEGINNING “whoops that was a a Personal Question” and “bro he did not need to say that” cracked me up ……did anyone mention it’s implied that Ozai killed his Azulon
This episode is considered one of the best of the series, and is a favourite of MANY fans. It's also the only episode that doesn't feature any of the protagonists. Personally, my favourite is coming up soon (S2E11)
I love the implicit story telling in this episode with Ozai being told to kill Zuko, Ursa finding this out, and Azulon dying the same night that Ursa disappeared, and Ozai suddenly becoming the fire lord. I felt so clever when I pieced it together for the first time.
one of the best episodes of the series. was really great to see how pumped you got watching it. god, you (general you) just want zuko to be peaceful, you know. you just want him to stop making poor decisions lol.
Ngl i was expecting an end edit where Zuko would be like "Hi yes, i'm from the fire nation but i ran away and i'm not evil, please trust me haha" And happy ending :)
I LOVE this episode and the incredible parallels it draws. Ursa using an example of turtle ducks and explaining to Zuko how moms get when their children are in danger is such amazing foreshadowing to her LITERALLY UNALIVING THE OLD FIRE LORD to protect Zuko later on. Also Zuko learning the hard truth about how the whole world hates the fire nation despite being taught all his life that everyone worships them as supreme rulers. And finally seing Azula as a child being just as sadistic and cruel as her current self really shows how much she takes it from Ozai and how impactful his "parenting" was to her development.
In all seriousness, love this one. A personal favorite of mine. Really awesome characterization for our man of the hour Zuko here, a lil bit o' backstory and an ending that just... Hurts. Like a boulder to your stomach. Huh. What a fitting comparison
So what have we learned class? -Zuko has issues. -Azula has issues. -Iroh has issues. -That kid has issues. -Ma is dead. -Iroh's son is dead -Nobody here is emotionaly or psychologicaly stable. - AND. NOBODY. LOVES. ZUKO. Edit: -Ozai also probably killed his dad, but like, fuck that guy. Right?
You ever have that one episode or movie that is so well done, but so sad that you hate it. That’s this episode for me. Also I have constant flashbacks to LK2 with the ending.
Easily one of my fav episodes. The shift of perspectives between Zuko and his past, to what is currently happening. And the conflict on how to be yourself, while also having a past that is not... exactly good. Ahhh. I can't wait for your reaction of the next ep. c:
Blue, I just want to say I absolutely love your reactions SO much, I’ve been here with you since Star and it’s so wild that I’ve been here this long with you but you’ve been awesome every single time for years for me! you’ve always been one of my favorite reactors simply because of your personality. You remind me of a lot of my friends and how they are both goofy and fun but also sweet and nice. You’re like my reliable Internet copy of my goofy band friends 😂 just, being here since Star I’ve seen you go through everything and I feel we’ve been through all of it together! I could always rely on you to back me up on my thoughts on Star and now Avatar 😂 it’s so wild how reactions can be so much fun and enjoyable for me! So thank you so much for providing that for me for years! I’m so glad to see you’ve never changed and stayed your same goofy, chill self on camera for us. Thank you for providing such hilarious and honest reactions and videos essays for me for all these years. Thank you for being my Internet bff in a way and always being a reliable paradoxical relationship I can count on! Keep being you and thank you for the wonderful reactions for all these years and I can’t wait for more!! Have fun!!!
@BlueOrder you should think about what Azula said to Zuko after listening to the convo with Azulon and sozin and then how the mom just tells zuko to remember who zuko is and then just dips and then Azulon JUST RANDOMLY firs a couple of days after when they said he was in good health
This week on avatar. A wanted war criminal beats the hell out of local police after trying to arm a child for a violent coup. All the while having heat induced hallucinations of his past. In conclusion Zuko is in solitary confinement Later reports show he also threatened to shove a apple up his little sister he truly is disturbed
Once you’re done with atla I highly recommend watching overanalyzing avatar, it goes into a lot of detail about the series and especially with episodes like this where there is a lot to miss in explaining zuko’s character on first watch it’s a really good retrospective and made me appreciate the series a lot more so if you want in your free time I recommend overanalyzing avatar
Awwwe, 🥹 I'm sad that RU-vid hasn't been recommending your videos but happy they found they're way to me finally. 🥰 Your videos are always a dose of instant happiness. 💝💖💝💖
Without spoiling too much from the comics, Ozai was going to kill zuko that night but the mom wanting to save her sons life made a tea that would kill the granfather. Thats also why she leaves that night. So theres 3 messed up things happening here. 1) Ozai was gonna kill his son. 2) Ozai killed his father 3) He stripped his children of a mother.
zuko alone more like... uhhhhhh zuko is bad (JK he's best character) yeah I don't know where i was going with this, but best episode imo (kinda a cold take but yeah) so i felt obliged to comment
