Hi Madison. My son Matthew is 36 and he had a ruptured AVM too this morning. He is in ICU and they aren’t very hopeful. I have hope but I need to be patient and thank you for sharing this because he needs time to heal. I hope he wakes up like you did. He is so loved and too young. Keep kicking butt. God bless you. i had an avm rupture in 2016 and i've developed really severe ptsd from the whole experience. thank you for sharing your story, i've felt so alone in this and it's nice to see someone else who can relate to my struggles. when you said when you woke up you couldn't talk and all you could do was cry...ouch, i relate so hard. you are a warrior.

Hi sasha belcher ! If you don’t mind me asking, how are you doing today? I can already tell that you are strong because YOU made yourself strong enough to get out of the wheelchair!

Mine ruptured when I was working out with marine recruiters. I don’t remember getting a headache or loosing feeling I just remember getting really dizzy and I guess I passed out. I was rushed to the hospital and they performed emergency surgery. Strokes caused me to lose my left peripheral (hopefully temporary, that’s what I’m told anyways) While I was in the hospital doing pt ot and st every time I stood up I’d get dizzy and that’s gone (thankfully) so I can stand up and not get really dizzy. But I also stayed in the hospital for two-ish months. I was lucky enough to only have problems with my peripheral not my speech or any limbs. God was watching out for people like you and me on those days.

I barely survived a ruptured AVM and a really bad stroke when I was 16. My right side was and still is struggling with a lot of stuff.

This is really for everyone out there that wants to talk with others that are dealing with an AVM. There is a website called www.avmsurvivors.org you can go there and read other story’s of people like us that have had an AVM or are now dealing with one. It’s a good group to chat with or see others that have gone or are dealing with a AVM.

Hi Madison, i gotta ask, are you hemiplegic after the rupture? If you are, have you regained your movements back especially on your fingers and wrists? I had a rupture in 2016 and im still struggling to move my fingers and wrists on my effected side

You are an inspiration Madison. How long did it take you to talk? My brother had a ruptured AVM and has an aphasia. He has a problem expressing himself and can talk only few words and not sentences.

Had my brain AVM rupture back in 2000. Had just reached the age of 10 when the bleed happened. Was taken to the hospital flatlined for a bit had emergency surgery to stop the bleed and then was air lifted to children’s hospital in St.Louis. Had to wait for the swelling to go down until they could do my surgeries. Ended up having 4. The reason why is because of the rupture. My doctors said it was like a bomb went off in my brain and there were 4 spots in different locations from my bleed.

Wow Yoehon John ! I can’t believe 10 years old. You are strong! Especially to flatline then come back. I was only in a-comma for 2 weeks. They told my dad that I wasn’t to survive the first night. But look at us now, stronger than ever!
@yoehonjohn4832
@yoehonjohn4832 5 лет назад
Was also in a-comma for 2 weeks. Woke up blind and paralyzed on my right side. Was able to see after 2 weeks once the swelling had gone down. Had a lot of therapy done even after my surgeries. On in to high school did sports. Track and golf. One funny thing about in track. My friends would joke about how they could tell I was behind them when running. My right foot runs flat. I don’t really have as much control with it because of the brain damage. But at least my left is normal.

We are caregivers of our granddaughter. She had her AVM rupture with subsequent bleeding at age 9 in December 2000. She is now 33 years old and lives in her own apartment. She does have supports because of the common consequences from brain injury, especially to the frontal cortex and limbic system. It is important for caregivers to learn as much as possible so they can advocate and communicate if the survivor has difficulty do that for themselves. I am very happy Madison is communicating so well. Every person who has survived any type of brain impact has their own individual story. They want understanding, respect, patience, and support. The world has learned so much more about the brain since 2000. The procedures for dealing with an AVM in the brain has really advanced.

Hello Madi. I hope you are doing well today? My name is Eddie Price and I am from Wayne County, North Carolina with a 28578 zip code. Would you believe that I had an AVM with a Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in the Occipital ( in the Left Posterior (Back of the Head ). This was back in the year of 1978. December 19, 1978 I was 20 years old that year. I went through 8 hours of Surgery on that day. My Neurosurgeon told me and my family that I was a miracle. Plus if I continue to improve that I would be a miracle for sure. Guess what I have been one ever since. Now that was a gift from God. I hope and pray for you the same and even more. Please listen to me you can do anything you want to. Just know your limitations. Please just know your limitations. That's all.
