I have adopted dogs for nearly 60 years ranging in age from 6-8 weeks to 3-4 years old, but I'm at a loss for this one. I adopted a rescue dog about 2 weeks ago. He's maybe 9-10 mos old, 20 lbs, possibly spaniel/pom mix (they think). He was picked up as a stray and taken to a shelter where he was put on the euthanasia list before the rescue took him. It was a large rescue with about 160 dogs and he was there probably 1-3 months. He loves people and other dogs, he goes into his crate and stays there without barking, he's doing pretty good with sit/lie down/stay, though he backs up a step or two before sitting. I work with him daily several times a day for about 5-10 min each time. The biggest issue is his nipping/biting. He'll mouth a bit occasionally, but when he gets excited his lips pull up in almost a snarl and then he starts nipping/biting. He doesn't appear aggressive in other situations. Most of the time if he's calmly chewing on a toy I can take it from him with no attempt at biting as part of training. He has a house line on and if he's getting the zoomies in the house I try to step on it to stop him before he gets himself too excited, then he starts to nip my feet/ankles or try to jump to go for my hands. If I then try to pick up the leash he'll go for my hands. I've tried taking his collar and holding him until he's calm the way I've seen in your videos but when I release him he starts trying to bite me again and we go through the process again.This type of biting seems to only happen when he's really excited and it can take several minutes for him to calm down. While I've had many dogs I don't remember having one that seemed to be so heavily invested in the biting. I haven't been able to find videos addressing this type of issue for an older pup. I signed him up for a puppy training class that starts in 2 weeks. If this can't get solved soon I will find a trainer to take him to for one on one help. But in the meantime any suggestions would be welcome. Other than the nipping/biting he's a pretty good puppy.

Hey! I have had a puppy for a week now and I am facing exactly the same thing. I was considering that maybe I need to do an exercise/playtime in the afternoon before his overexcited hour comes but now they were talking about zoomies from overstimulation ( he gets hyperexcited and active a while after we finish our afternoon session) so I don't know now... what have you found out in the classes you took? Thanks in advance PS: I have tried everything in their puppy biting videos and he simply doesn't stop - he quiets for a moment and then goes back to biting. Today I had to do the cesar millan 2 fingers in the neck and hold him down for several minutes so he would give in and rest. He went quiet after that and fell asleep. I know it worked but it did got me questioning if I he needs more playtime than I am giving (we have 1 play session and 2 training sessions before 5pm - then he gets zoomies, falls asleep and and then we have a last play session.)

But those zoomies consist of him biting our ankles, hands, running around and catching the closest moving person. He is 9 weeks old and I've been crazy about the biting because it just looks so much like he is testing me - there is just no way he doesn't know he is suppose to not chew me but chew the toy. I have been correcting him the whole week - and redirecting.

I know I got the timing right too - I've been mindful of it.

@@greenleaf-bs1tu Your puppy is just a baby and it's going to take time. Mine is 1 yr now and he's still hasn't "got it" and still mouth's me and nips. He's getting better, but it's taking longer than I'd like and by now after almost 5 months living with me he should know, but he doesn't. Maybe it's a breed thing? I had a DNA test done and he's likely a Pomeranian, Chihuahua, American Pit Bull, mini Australian, Pekingese, supermutt, American Staffordshire terrier mix. He's a honey brown color and looks more like a tall PomChi (Pomeranian/Chihuahua)

My two month old puppy just will have nothing to do with the crate. He just cried and cried for hours when put in there. The pet store suggested a play pin so I try putting him in there with of course his bed and a few toys. It’s better but the last few nights in the play pin he has started crying again when first put in for awhile and very early 3am, in the morning. Any suggestions to get him better use to the play pin, or trying the crate again? I have a two month old Goldendoodle. This has really tested my patience with the lack of sleep, or interruption of sleep.

Hi I've been watching your videos and making progress with my rotweiller puppy who's now 9 weeks old, he's been with us for one week now. So many treats to reward what is best to give and when? As I want to do right by Hades health. What do you recommend. Kibble cheese chicken etc? Tia x

@franky-bx8t 10 месяцев назад
@DebbieGray...you can separate them by buying a baby gate you can put on any door they easy to put up and not expensive I did this with when I got my new staffy puppy so I can separate her Wen she gets to much from my adult staffy 🐾 this is the perfect way to separate them

How do I get my puppy to focus on having a wee/poo she’s just gets so distracted outside
@dallasburgess5329
@dallasburgess5329 10 месяцев назад
I'm no dog trainer, but I've had quite a few (4 Goldens right now) I find if I observe them closely, the split second they look to get distracted, I make the Ceasar Milan tssst noise and redirect them quickly with a small leash tug. Typically their nose goes down and they are back to trying to sniff out the perfect spot to go. Sometimes it takes a few light tugs. These experts can speak to if they think it works...it does for me. Hope it helps!
