The logical continuation of our most popular video on the channel, now we've progressed far enough to bring you "Avoid my Ops 31-40 Mistakes!". We recap things we learned the hard way in this level range and thing that negatively impacted our progression in this video. Learning from our Ops 1-30 video we did do a lot of things right though so there will likely be a video down the road that touches on those "Wins" during this range of play as well. But for now, enjoy these things we definitely could have done better and for those in or entering into this range try to boil down our experiences so you can eat the fish and throw away the bone and still play the game in the way that brings you the most satisfaction - as not doing so is the biggest mistake any player can make regardless of Operations range.

I liked the video.. I'm at ops 39. My biggest mistake was when the scoring changed for defense platforms, I waited too long for Scopley to fix them to help in events where I was multiple levels behind and it slowed me down when I needed to push from ops 38 to 39. All that time at 38, I could have done enough territory pulls by now where I could have the ISS Jelly and enough Jelly events to get it to T3. Where I see my others in the alliance struggle around the mid 30s is that they didn't work on getting triple lock to help them get better officers - including transporter patterns and the variety of ships that you can get with in the faction store. Learning to look at the 11 day schedule to do the events that pay out the ultra recruit shards. I see people past 30 mil rep when they can't get to deep space and struggle to get dailies done.

Enjoyed the video as I’m ops 35 now and getting ready to make a run to 39. So far my only real regrets are not concentrating on building faction officers early enough and also sticking to one alliance for much too long. While I made some great friends in the first alliance, it really stunted my growth by not being in territories and not getting much of the territory researches done.

Great video Dan! I am at ops 31 right now, and have a bortas at T8. My 1st epic ship that I am targetting is the D4 so wasn't planning on building a Saladin right away. But I totally see the value of it as a base cracker later. It is on my to build list eventually.

As one who built a Sally, and Vidar, a max horizon, and one Faction miner...I still have G3 Unc crystal PTSD. That was a brutal scrabble for ANY G3 unc crystal. AND--now that you are in the 40s, the faction miners become a much bigger deal. I would say none of those resources were wasted, especially when you hit 42 and can speed mine lower DS.

G3 Unc PTSD is real, lol. Hopefully they'll get the bonus refinery scaled to the new refinery rates here soon - that would go a long way to alleviate that for future generations of players. Still, most materials come from events for me so it wouldn't be a complete game changer for the couple days a month it runs now. Finally started putting back into my faction miners and they're much nicer. I'll be camped at 43 for a long while getting the things I bypassed caught up and I'm totally fine with that, haha. Lvl 49 here, you need the 3* faction miners, research in the 40's helps with warp range and a maxed 3* miner will out perform a t3 4* miner and lots cheaper to repair.I use my 3* faction miners every day. Be careful dropping tags it will eliminate your contributions to the alliance level progression.

My Sally still serves my very well, at ops42. With the warp65 it gets to low-end DS systems and grinds everything (except lvl49 traders) with ease and for a very cheap repair. Almost able to scrap those level ships... still will scrap the Centurion and Bortas in a heart beat.

Had to watch this video 3 times to figure out what I'm doing wrong just made it to ops 30, no sally terrible ships and officers. some research is caught up but its lacking I was definitely to impatient with wanting to just unlock some stuff. This video helped me a lot.

Ore bottleneck for Augur is real... Tallas are important. I maxed 3 horizons and use them consistently to keep 2* and 3* mats in stock for refineries.

Ops 44 here after leaving the game for two years. I still game my Saladin daily for rep grind in Tygokor. It’s formidable in pvp with Kuron, HG Worf, and either Harrison or Kerla. If I could go back to do it again, I’d skip everything but Saladin until epics and not put anything into the epics until efficiencies are more on point at ops 39

If you start working on Vidar as soon as you can get it, you can skip the D3/Mayflower/Legionary until your 30s (when you only build them to scrap them). Vidar can serve as your daily grinder AND borg probe grinder for a long time. Then you can build Saladin at 28 and focus on that, because your Vidar will be maxed or close to it by then. Something that helps my Augur lately is using SNW crew with Pike as captain, then Una and either Uhura/Spock/Orgegas. Una boosts the impulse speed enough that it feels like it's walking instead of crawling. For Alliances, I've switched rarely but when I did, it was often to get away from warfare. I'm f2p and primarily a PVE player so can't afford wars and a lot of PVP stuff. Good video!

Solid video, I'd add that the territory research is a huge grind but massively rewarding in efficiencies and power boosts so it's definitely one to work constantly at if you can. Don't throw too much into station defences researches if you can avoid them as the only thing that keeps you safe is shield discipline. Occasionally there's an event that rewards you for just completing researches no matter what power gain or RSS spend it involves - saving the defence researches is useful for those events because they're quick and cheap

@Steven Weinberg generally I agree with this, however the best way to raid or defend against raids is practicing using Realtas and the like, and it's not necessary to have a big base to be able to keep people out long enough to keep repairing. I don't equate good shield discipline with living under a shield - I'm usual unshielded except for when I know that I won't be able to answer my phone or sleeping, often just use one 8hr shield in 24rs.

I agree with steven, i wanted to write something similar. Also: With incursions coming up you need good defense while raiding. There always is a bigger fish (or whale).

@Steven Weinberg shielding is still the best defense. Base location is also very critical. Too many people base themselves in busy Faction Space. High traffic brings visitors. Base in the bottom screen in the boonies.

Big fan of Dan. I’m ops 35. I’m camping here for a bit. Just got my Auger and it’s tier 3 same with my enterprise. Focusing on research which is the second biggest thing to do. Officers are the first. Max them as soon as you can 😊

About factions... I would recommend pushing towards going ROM or KLI faction ships passed ops42... The officers you need to upgrade and use are most likely going to need/spend federation faction creds... And therefore your stock will be much lower then the other 2 factions... And you will require, most likely, to invest faction creds for those faction ships, like Valdore, etc. I find myself very bottlenecked on Federation faction creds... That Kelvin and Newton drained me out and required quite a bit of work to get... And now I find myself with quite a bit of ROM and Kli Fred's and can't go for those 4* ships because I don't have the rep for it

I like the idea of "alliance hopping", my only concern is that my [alliance reputation] will reset if I leave the alliance. I do feel "chained to my current alliance", because of this.

I’m Ops 35 and use my Antares with the greater warp to mine concentrated Latinum. Glad I have it as my Horizon won’t reach those systems despite being higher tiered.

Agreed. New officers and events gave battleships a huge boost. I only have an enterprise, if I could go back I'd get an augur for sure. The only ship I have for Battleship events is a Bortas.

I have learned my lesson well, haha. Need a bit more purple "goo" to finish out my secondary Stella again so I can get back at it. I've jumped up about 30 M Score points over the past couple of weeks and the Stella is much more fun to use now.

Sounds like me level 28 to 33 (where i am currently). I feel you the most on the mimers. Building and tearing up a second horizon was my biggest mistake. One upgraded some tears to your convenience and two faction mimers, one maxed for raiding. That's my advice. One meridian and one botany bay is enough.

I'd skip levelling the Horizon all together, 2 faction miners (as they are a long term investment) and just have a maxed envoy as overnight back-up. Maxed Envoy has the same PC as a T6 Horizon anyway

@@gp8231 ues, you can make an argument for that 👍🏼 building a horizon os no problem and levels before faction miners, so building it is not a mistake. That's why i said "upgrading to your convinience" since it's a nice allrounder for mining over night, getting concentrated lat early, ...

Making the move to Ops 37. Have a T5 Augur and T5 E. Working on getting Defiant and have T4 Mantis and T2 Cerritos. Am completely F2P. What do you think I need to know when I get to 37?

(For reference, I just hit 36 last week.) The Valkis is essential for mining in the 30s. There are only sixteen 25K ore nodes that a Horizon can reach without wasting a bridge slot (and mining speed synergy) on range expansion. Getting a Valkis to T7 opens up the 60K nodes in Stagnimea. Gas and crystal are much less of a bother, as 40K nodes for gas and 60K nodes for crystal are within a Horizon's grasp. I've built a K'Vort, but I haven't used any uncommon on it yet because a Horizon works just fine. Antares blueprints are still frustratingly absent from my loot boxes when they should be there, considering how many Fed hostiles I kill in systems that are supposed to drop them, but again it's fine to mine gas with a Horizon. The Valkis was a big investment but I put every single uncommon/rare from its upgrades into winning and placing in spend events so it wasn't painful at all for me. When the time comes to mine in deep space, I can more easily upgrade the Valkis to get to those systems. It can limp along subbing in for the Antares/K'Vort on G4 gas and crystal while I catch them up. I don't have the same regret about the Augur/Enterprise question. I had my Augur up to T6 at 34 thanks to some well-timed spend events and it's been fantastic. I consider it 'finished' until I camp at 39, and the rest of the ore is upgrading buildings to get me there. I'm just not bothered by the impulse speed because PvP isn't a huge priority for me. I'm using all the G3 mats I would've spent on the Enterprise (of course I did build it, because you know...it's the Enterprise) to upgrade and scrap Mayflowers. I should have significantly more G4 mats to upgrade my ISS Jelly when I get it than if I'd dumped any into upgrading the Enterprise. The Valkis should explain why I don't have a D4.

It appears you have been much wiser in spending your materials than I was. I would probably have liked the Valkis better than the K'vort (which I used for ore and gas mining as well for a bit). My alliance had Ore in territory for a long while and server 62 was mostly dead so competition for Ore nodes wasn't that fierce while I was in that range but you bring up excellent points on the utility of the Valkis my friend. Also, your comment about building the Enterprise because "it's the Enterprise" made me smile, haha. @@Secure_Play As an 'as light a spender as I can realistically be' player, I realized early on that I can't have everything, and I chose to focus on saving, spending large quantities of resources only when I could get something extra than what I actually spent them on, and focusing hard on the things I did allow myself to have. You were right on the money about the Saladin, but upgrading both it and the Vi'Dar at the same time are a hefty task. I do consider both to be essential to even late-game play, and that's one time when I allowed myself to dilute my focus between two similar ships. You just have to suck it up and grind them both...it adds extra time at your late-20s camp, but it's worth it and you'll never have to worry about either for the rest of the game. Plus all the mats I saved up during that time made it possible to bump the Augur up immediately after I got it.

@@Secure_PlayIf building one faction miner, the K'Vort is the best choice, just wait until you have your Klingon crystal ship efficiency research up a bit and it becomes the cheapest faction to upgrade by some margin

If PvP isn't a priority for you, you should avoid the Augur even more. The faster speed of the D4 means you can grind a system 25% faster, that is huge. And when maxed the D4 kills one more Sol Trader than the Augur

I use all 3 faction miner also for g4 material. If I cannot reach the DS node with my miner I take the Disco. I am ops 49 I don't have one single g4 miner. I scipt it for my valdore and pilum. I will get a hydra soon by shoting normal trader in Sol. I am only 26 bp away from a hydra. I have still 66 Million away to get my Billion Rom Rep lock. Sol is my best place for rep grinding. easy to reach and most Rep you can get for roms. After I get my Hydra and get 1 Billion rom lock ! I will shot in Romulus to get my Vorta!

In my opnion everybody should build all epic g3 ship. It depends which rare fraction g4 you like to get in the 40s then you should max that fraction epic g3 ship. You get a reptation boost in rep grinding from your fraction ship. That is max 50% . May est grinding place is sol romulus and kronos. You can get uncommon, rare and mining bp in that system it has mos rep. Augur is not bad in hostile grinding. it depend on want you want to do in 40s. I soon will hit rom rep 1 Billion and grind nearly my hydra with 10 million reptation. I did if first with my augur then valdor at least with pilum. Preperation is everything.

I like my alliance. Luckily I found the right one when I started playing the game. You could also talk with other players via PM as well, if you don’t want to to leave your alliance. Another option to make new new friends.

Just hit opps 32 just opening fed saying that I do not have a ship that is not mixed except franky and its t7 so getting there I scrap 3 times a week and have been doing since I built the scrap yard I always place in events where I can but I'm in my own alliance I like to set my own enemy's lol if I need loot from territory I just opc hunt

Dan I Agree w you 100% I'm a Scrap Master Have 3 Talas and Envoys waiting to go. I would wait on The Faction Miners till late 30s. And my Sally w Rom, Harrison and Marcus Cracks Bases all be it w many hits I have Cracked Ops 44 Bases at Ops 34 and u know I love my Amalgam

Not sure I agree with focusing more on Enterprise: Its the "basic bitch" Epic ship, which does every job to an alright standard, but doesnt excel. Augur and D4 bot have significant strengths/advantages and both complement eachother in your dock. While the Enterprise will always be used in the same manner, with the largely same Kirk crews, in every scenario. Someone on Reddit recently called Enterprise the "Jack of all trades, master of none" and they were right. Saladin is also a Jack of all trades, but unlike Enterprise, its really good at everything around that Ops level.

I don’t know man, I have some 15 different crew options for my enterprise. My d4 and Augur don’t have as many good crewing options. I always have ship’s ability officer side car on epics outside of hostile grinding, and d4 really needs two sidecar officers to proc ability well. Augur only needs Georgiou, but it obviously really only gets capitalized every three rounds.

I am a level 43 player FTP and have all the g3 epics at high levels, you are correct saying that the ent is the best all around ship, but the Augur has a big advantage in one niche thing for me, it is the only ship from the 3 epics that can kill 3 level 49 heavy traders/hull although my ent is maxed it cant do the same thing as my tier 7 Augur.

From what I've seen from whales, when maxed the D4 is the best PVE ship of the epics. Like all Interceptors it comes on strong the last 2 tiers, and obviously its the quickest

Hi question about the survey ships I have not maxed out the horizon yet but started on the 3 faction ones based on a old video of yours trying to get them to 5 still worth it or not ?

Now that the Amalgam is a thing and it's fairly easily sourced via Cosmic Cleanup (which is happening more often now) and event stores I would say the G3 faction miners have dropped off in importance. The amalgam will get you into deep space, and although it's mining laser isn't as good as the G3 faction miners you're going to build one anyhow so it's nice to use the materials elsewhere. I find myself moving my base out to a deep space hub and the Horizon is free to move around within those few systems.

With the right crew, a horizon can do pretty much anything the faction miners can. Worry more about chasing mining crew.

@@Secure_Play I personally would prioritize getting the Meridian over the amalgam. The ability to do territory research is probably more important than raiding for most players. It's so hard to source however.

Unfortunately in my Alliance we were forced to restrict new members to invitation only because we had an individual who was jumping from alliance to alliance and attacking outside ROE and trash talking other alliances then when finally getting kicked out he would change his name and sneak back in and do more damage and he did this with multiple alliances.

Augur is a great ship, it is the best PVE, armada and base crack ship of the three G3 epics. It has staying power even through the lower 40s until your g4 rare. It is expensive, it is slow, but it stands the test of time.

I flew right on by 39. I have been sitting at 41 for a bit now getting things caught up but likely by the end of the next full battle pass I will be ready to bump up to my long-term camp spot at 42/43 by late Sept/early Oct. Let me know how it works out for you my friend. 🖖

1 vidar is the most impotant warship in the game pair with prime borg rewards 1 faction miner focus on 1 so u can reach the 4star node cause disco fuel every miner it isnt ideal.i never build a uss salladin or bortas or centurion i go vidar to epic that was really hard i dont suggest uss salladin is a warmachine!!i miss the pvp fun but it is what it is!

I did skip the Amalgam and I have not regret it so far. I only occasionally participate in territory control though as it usually falls either during work hours or prime family time afterwards. When I do make them I usually will take the duty of escorting Sarcs to nodes or eliminating enemy Sarcs en route to nodes to help out though as it is still the best ship for taking and holding nodes and at least a few people on the team having them is a big asset.

One thing u didn't touch on and I'm interested in is how much rss should u have stocked up by level I'm Ops 37 and have over Multiple Billions stocked up in each even Dil but would love a Baseline

I’m at the same Ops level. I usually go after any and all events that reward rss tokens. Currently 13 billion in parsteel, 8 billion in tritanium and 5 billion in dilithium tokens. So far so good. Prioritize the Franklin-A like he said. The rss tokens from Swarm dailies are very rewarding. 👍🏻

I have Tons of RSS Stashed I'm 88 on RSS Raided over 100Bil steel I was just curious of a good nesting for the game at that levels

If you've got billions at that level you're set. The only time I've ever used tokens was steel while rushing from 39-41 in twenty minutes and you recover the levels pretty quickly afterwards

Great video, just a little confused by your decision to build and max a Saladin now (rather than build and max 1.5 D3's for scrapping). What does a max Saladin give you are your level that a max Bortas doesn't? if hitting bases with Rom, the difference in damage between a maxed Saladin and Bortas is minimal, like under 3%.

Firing pattern my friend. The Saladin is the best to combo with Rom because of that big round 1 damage kinetic weapon. Rom keeps all ships and defense platforms from firing the first round of combat while simultaneously allowing that big gun to fire twice the first round. D4 is great but as with the Bortas it lacks a big round 1 damage firing pattern to fully utilize Rom's abilities.

@@Secure_Play thanks for the reply, I think that is a misconception due to the one "big hit" of the Saladin, people get drawn into the numbers. If you analyse all 3 shots from the Bortas in round one, you will see that it totals very close to the Saladin for round 1, within 5%.

Yep, you definitely made some mistakes. I do disagree with your Saladin however. Vi'dar is faster, has more cargo, and the refinery.

Haha, hopefully I'll be making less mistakes on the way towards 50 over the next long while. Vi'dar is definitely an OPC hunting BOSS and that refinery is extremely important.

The biggest mistake I see new players to the game make is rushing to ops lvl 60. There is no end game to this game. Once you get to ops60 the only thing to do is either delete the app, or wait for Scopely to add more lvls and content. I have been playing the game for almost 4 years now and only gotten to ops39.

@@Secure_Play I was half joking. I'm 36 now but have been ready to jump to 39 for a while but wanted to finish some stuff first. I don't regret my Augur investment at all. I was originally planning to go Enterprise but I got the Augur bps first and I love it. Yeah it's a bit slow but it kicks in armadas.
