Dr. Alan Mandell's video provides essential guidance on the timing of vitamin supplement intake to optimize health benefits and avoid sleep disturbances. Here are the key takeaways: 1. **Avoid B Vitamins Before Bed:** B vitamins stimulate the nervous system and can disrupt sleep if taken at night. Best taken earlier in the day without the need for food. 2. **Vitamin D with Fat During the Day:** Vitamin D competes with melatonin, potentially affecting sleep quality. Since it requires fat for absorption, take it with a meal containing healthy fats earlier in the day. 3. **Calcium and Magnesium Competition:** Taking calcium at night can interfere with magnesium absorption, essential for muscle and nervous system relaxation. Avoid calcium supplements before bed. 4. **Fish Oil Timing:** Due to potential for acid reflux and its slow digestion, fish oil (Omega-3s) should not be taken right before sleep. It's best consumed with a fat-containing meal earlier in the day. 5. **Vitamin C Caution:** Its acidity and stimulating effect may cause sleep disturbances and gastroesophageal reflux if taken on an empty stomach before bed. 6. **Multivitamins with Meals:** Since they contain both fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins, multivitamins are best taken with a larger meal earlier in the day to ensure proper absorption and avoid energy spikes at night.
@@juliemcdaniel499 One man said it. Supplements often come as mag and calcium together. And I have heard from other sources that Vitamin D is o.k to take at night and doesnt need fat with it. So.....dont be such a smart ass
This doctor needs to be cloned and put into every medical school to re-educate doctors with correct information about health. He is brilliant, and a gem of a person to anyone with common sense about how to improve their health in a sustained way. I just love learning from his simple to understand videos ... I respect this man immensely. 🙏
How do you know what he says is correct and that what every other doctor says is incorrect? In fact, how do you know what every other doctor says? Doctors are people, and like all other people, I'm guessing they have differing opinions on things, especially health and nutrition.
He is not a medical doctor. Plus all his teachings are searchable on the internet, you just have to find the correct source and not just random sites. I bet when you ask him about deeper subject matters in medicine like surgery, he couldnt give you detailed answers since he is not a surgeon, so why would you say he should be put on medical schools. He makes his videos simple to understand so normal people with no knowledge about medicine will also easily understand.
Me too!! Years ago a doctor told me vitamins increase appetite so I should take them at night. Been doing it for years. I’ll have to try it, I sleep ok, but could be better.
Vit. B Vit. D- needs to be taken with oil Calcium and Mg together Fish oil- they digest slowly and can increase serotonin Vit. C- Multi-vitamin- needs to be taken with meal Thanks, Dr. Mandel!
@@Men_In_Jesusyes! I take vit b complex, vit c (camu camu) and vit d+mk-7 in the morning with food and then I take magnesium citrate+bisglycinate, zinc citrate and super strength omega 3 fish oil a few hrs before bed. I’m on an OMAD diet and I eat at 11am
best advice video ever to get the most out of supplements ,people been doing it wrong for years and getting the opposite no good effects wasting money and creating more body issues.not even the manufacturers of these products know or instruct you when its best to take them
Sir, all doctors should be like you❤❤. Thank you for all the health care information,I most certainly appreciate it all. Abundant Blessings to you always.❤❤❤
🌈 Dear delightful Dr. Mandell: please do another video to suggest what to take at night… I am confident of melatonin and magnesium glycinate before bed, but there may be others that are more beneficial at night rather than during the day. Thank you so much for all your great work!
Dear sir, Plz make a vedio on , 1, how to minimise the smoking side effects,,,,,if we can't able to quit smoking, 2, how can we make our lungs and heart healthy,, how can we wash our heart and lunges clean 3,, How can we quit smoking at all,is there any remedy
Quitting smoking is difficult, but not as difficult as quitting sugar! Meanwhile, some thing that really helps you to breathe better whether you smoke or not is organic all of oregano… Six drops under the tongue and it helps you to breathe greatly. It has many other benefits, but it addresses your questions specifically. Best bet for any issue is to look up “food sources“ for whatever topic and look for food sources to help and those to avoid. Both my parents were smokers, 1.5 packs daily and both quit cold turkey and never smoked again. Smoking increases alertness and reduces anxiety, but with so many health issues associated with it, and also inflicting secondhand smoke, which is even worse on others, it is really a great thing to quit, because it cost so much and stinks as well. It really is difficult to do if you don’t want to quit and that is where you need to apply your discipline. You must think about all the benefits of quitting, including saving money! Also, later in life, you may develop emphysema among many other difficulties, but my mother had it, and it was very hard to deal with. Best health to you!😘
oh geez....i just took my fish oil with my potassium, joint formula, chrondroitin, K-3...an sleep formula by Dr. Mercola. Did stop taking my D & Magnesium at night, but did not realize C is another i should take during the day. Very happy i tuned in tonight. Always take C on top of food. Unfortunately, at a bit late tonight a hearty veggie soup...and just took my PM stuff. Thank you Dr. M!!! Will surely make a note of these.
This must be why the world has turned upside down lately, with all the unspeakable horrific acts, everyone must be taking their vitamins at night. Please people listen to Dr. Mandell and take your vitamins correctly, my broken heart 💔 cant take another horrifying headline 😢 Dear Jesus save the children, Not one more child!!!
The news has always been deliberately designed to make persons feel bad. This is because negative emotions are disempowering. The best way to help the world is to choose to the best of our ability to be in a positive emotional state. Choosing thoughts and actions that feel good helps to create positive actions and solutions for ourselves and the world.
I would have liked the video to end with a quick summary list of what NOT to take at bedtime, without the reasons or explanations already given earlier in the video.
Guilty of taking Omega 3, and a Liposomal vitamin c at night. they don't interfere with my sleep though, i take them a bit early, usually after my last meal, and the reason I added C, at night is, to help with collagen / skin health.
I do not take suppliment, only take vit c and cod liver fish gel, thanks for continueous cares, I am indeed making a great days, thanks for help I love it ❤❤❤❤❤💜💜🩵💙💚💛
I taking vitamins right are super important..i used to take wrong and it made my tummy feel weird..after i learn it matters when and how you take vitamins..i been feeling great 😊
All good to know! Lately I've started taking supplements, and wondered why I'm not falling asleep til late...early mornings! I've been chewing on C before bed & taking krill oil! That stops now! Thank you!!!💗
Put a book under each the front poles of your bed to sleep on a slight incline to beat acid reflux while you sleep. Come back and thank me later (but don't complain it was too much if the books were War & Peace and Gone With the Wind).
Vitamin C is not a stimulant. It is an antioxidant and as such reduces the inflammation that may irritate you and prevent you from sleeping. Also, sleeping actually requires a lot of energy. And if you're sluggish during the day it could also be for psychological reasons and the illnesses we have could also be your body sabotaging itself so it doesn't have to do these things so.... I know I sometimes like to take freshly squeezed orange juice when I can't sleep and it will help me cool down and feel the peace I need.
I always learn so much from you! I am so thankful for a doctor like you who is so knowledgeable about nutrition! Bless you, and keep up the excellent work!
Thank you so much Dr. Mandell. I found that out by taking a protein supplement at night! Wow, I could not sleep (it was loaded with all the B vitamins). Now I take the protein powder in the mid morning. Thank you for telling people.❤
Thank you so much! I’m 59 and have been having trouble sleeping. But thanks to you I’m going to sleep and staying asleep. I was taking b12 and calcium at night; since I’ve stopped taking those at night I’m feeling better and sleeping better than I have in years.
I've always wondered about Vitamin D! 🤔 It makes sense that it would signal "it's daylight now" to your brain, making it best taken in the begining or middle of the day.
It interferes with melatonin. Our bodies make melatonin. I wonder if this is why I have had insomnia for months! It coincides with when I started taking it! At bedtime!
Dear sir, Plz how to minimise the smoking side effects,,,,,if we can't able to quit smoking, 2, how can we make our lungs and heart healthy,, how can we wash our heart and lunges clean 3,, How can we quit smoking at all,is there any remedy
I took a class from the Cancer Society many years ago to help my husband and I stop smoking Here are a few tips we got from them Put a rubber band around your wrist and snap it when u get the urge to smoke. Don’t buy your favorite brand of cigarettes Wrap cigarette pack in paper and keep in another room These are to delay the urge to smoke. Set a limit on how many cigarettes you smoke a day and how many hours apart. This is most important: Look in mirror, into ur eyes and repeat 10 times: I don’t smoke. That is what worked for me. It changes the way ur brain thinks about smoking. Instead of always saying I want to quit. Good luck
I could not figure out why I wake between 2-4 am and have difficulty getting back to sleep. I eat Nutritional yeast in the early pm, 7:00 to 7:30 pm. Nutritional Yeast is high in B vitamins. Going to cut out nutritional yeast in the evening to see if there is a difference. Thank you!
😢Vit B12 is bad for sleep. BUT B3 (Niacin) actually help one to sleep - however use the slow release version as it could cause hot flushes. Would be good if you draw the difference rather than group all Bs together.
Thanks to you, I’m taking my vitamin D (and K-2 as MK7) with fat. Instead of an Omega 3 supplement, I have a small tin of King Oscar Mediterranean Style Mackerel once per week.
Thanjs for this. I was taking a "Bone Up" supplement before bed.It has several of the ingredients you mentioned. I'll stop doing that.As for multivitamins, I take them right before breakfast.
For vitamins that do not interfere with sleep, it is better to try to split them during the course of the day and take melatonin and/or magnesium glycinate at night which both help you to relax and sleep.😘
I love the advice you give it has helped me in so many ways now I know when to take my magnesium I also have learned some techniques to help me relax thank God I found you ❤️ may God keep His angels around you
It has been suggested elsewhere that B1 (Benfotiamine) and D may actually enhance sleep, together with unfortified nutritional yeast. Comments, please.
This is great Dr M, so pls keep these kinda vids coming. We can create our own vitamin list of do's & don'ts as a result of these videos. Thx u Dr M, ❤ u.
Doc Loved the List - I was expecting you to add Zinc to that. I took zinc a couple times before bed (was trying to make sure I fit in in) Wow, I had stomach cramping All night, then I heard someone say, Never take zinc before bed! That was news to me.
I may be wrong, but Dock didn’t you say in another video to take a garlic or garlic supplement with fish oil to to clear plaque from arteries and take them at night before you go to bed now I’m confused about fish oil
I"ve been taking my vitamin D and my fish pills in the late evening for many years. No wonder i"ve found it so hard to go to sleep. Well, at least now I know. Thanks Doc, much appreciated!
Thanks for the great information!! I used to take a combined calcium/magnesium supplement, but now take separate ones, but I didn't know they would conflict with each other!! I DO take my B vitamins with my first meal of the day for energy, and I eat a LOT of beef and some liver to get needed nutrients!! Appreciate your videos! God bless you!!
Very true on the B vitamins at night I had to eliminate it because it was keeping me up as well as Vitamin D never at night I put it for my morning supplements before I leave out the door
IMHO, It is simply due to lack of knowledge concerning foods and the human body. Calcium is highly regulated in the body to maintain correct ph levels within a very, very, narrow range, especially in the bloodstream. That is why you should never take calcium pills, but rather eat calcium containing foods. Vitamin D acts as a signaling molecule to gut microbes to break down calcium from food and send to required locations only as needed, most often to bones and teeth. Any extra calcium is ideally excreted but many times it is not and finds its way into tissues and blood vessels causing atherosclerosis and heart disease. Vitamin K must be present in order to direct calcium into bones/teeth and keep it out of soft tissues except in limited amounts. Never take Vit D without Vit K. Magnesium is important for many functions and works in conjunction with the vitamins to maintain heart health preventing calcification of arteries, etc. Most all foods will have a bit of calcium so it really is best to never consume food a couple hours before bedtime but not primarily because calcium competes. Digestion and sleep are not compatible. Perhaps only a small sip of warm milk could be conducive to getting off to sleep quickly, but a better choice is ginger or chamomile tea for its sedative effects.
Dr. Mandell, I love all your videos, but please clarify your position in this video regarding taking omega 3 with a meal versus your previous video dated October 17, 2022 titled “The Best Time to Take OMEGA-3 to Clean Arteries & Prevent Heart Attack | Dr. Mandell”, in which you recommend taking omega 3 right before bedtime, to help avoid a heart attack. I have actually been doing this based on this video, and now you are recommending the opposite. I told you I watch your videos! Thanks for all you do!
Thanks for this information. I’m going to start supplementation of Omega-3 for heart rate (my resting heart rate is 100-ish). Blood pressure is fine but it’s just the heart rate. I’m also going to start taking Hawthorne for the same reason. Thanks for the info on when to take certain suppléments.
Accidentally did this last night! Grabbed the wrong bottle and took an immune complex which contains vit. C and vit D. I was wide awake until at least 4 am! 😮
omg that omega 3 capsule container looks so Appealing! I’d buy that product on the shelf if it were packaged like that compared to a boring white bottle
