I remember Yolanda. A filipina friend of mine living in Quezon called me crying the day after it hit. Her family lives in Tolosa and she couldn't get hold of them. I said let me see what I can do. I called the Red Cross and told them the situation. They gave me the number and location of the Red Cross in Manila and said she could volunteer to feed people somewhere in Leyte. So I called her back and told her what the Red Cross said to me, the number and location. She was very grateful. The first day her family came to the place she was feeding people and her whole family was fine. A couple of months later I started getting friend requests from multiple family members of hers. I'm still in touch with them today.

I'm used to typhoons/hurricanes. We have them in Florida way too often. If you don't know, Florida weather is almost identical to Philippine weather during summer months. It's hot, humid, storms almost every day with the occasional typhoon. It starts in June and ends in November in Florida. If you know of The Filipina Pea, she spent 2 months mostly in Florida last summer and she said it was just like the Philippines as well.

Your channel's videos are getting much better. These sorts of presentations are actually pretty useful even though much of what you say should be "common sense". Many foreigners either don't seem to have it or simply forget they are not in their home country. Many of us don't show this common sense at home and throw it out the window when visiting other places. Good job! 👍

Excellent video! A comment: You advised foreigners to bring copies of their passport, social security card and birth certificate, and not carry on their person. I agree that is good advice, But where should they store them? Are these items secure in the hotel, AirBnB, or apartment? These items are worth gold to identity thieves.
@SmartGirlPhilippines
@SmartGirlPhilippines Месяц назад
It's about risk management. Your passport is safer in your hotel safe than it is carrying it with you. If your room or house gets robbed, they are looking for money 99% of the time. I would keep a paper copy of your passport in your suitcase. And, I would NOT bring your social security card or birth certificate to the Philippines. I would bring copies of them, and have the originals easily accessible to someone in your home country in case you need them FEDEX'd to you if you lose your passport.

I suggest getting a lawyer any time you plan on buying a condo or even renting a house. I know foreigners can Not own land. So if they want to sell you land, run away really fast. I have developed my own policy concerning sending or giving money. I never send anything to anyone for any reason, no exceptions. It has served me well. You can put land in a Filipinos name, but make sure you have a lawyer so a lease agreement can be drawn up. This way if your relationship with the filipina doesn't work out she can't kick you out for 25 years.

Sometimes funny and sad. The Filipina Pea interviewed an American guy in the Philippines. He and a filipina chatted for years. He was sending loads of money to begin a life together in the Philippines. He finally retired and came to the Philippines and decided to surprise his filipina. Let's say it didn't go as well as he planned. He knocked, she opened the door and there was a Filipino guy there. It turned out she was married to the Filipino guy. Of course he was upset. So he got a hotel for the night. Next morning he reported it to the police. When the police got there they had already booked flights to somewhere in the middle east. Now there's a warrant out for their arrest. Now for the financial damage. She flew out of the Philippines after taking 1.6 million USD. Million! Talking about a scam.

Street food is the best. You can see it smell it and observe it. In a restaurant you can't and that's why there is a higher chance of a shady business in the background behind the curtains. Great day Daisy I hope all is going well. I have a question about filipinas that has been bothering me for quite sometime and thought you might be able to bring some clarity for me. Why is it that Filipinas never talk about how their foreigner husband's or boyfriends helped them out of poverty and/or changed their lives, and family's lives. They helped to break the cycle of poverty, or at the very least raised their standard of living to one they could never imagine or attain on their own. You always see videos on foreigners praising the filipina, but never see Filipinas giving the foreigner any type of recognition. I have only ever seen one guy on RU-vid talk about this, and he was asking the same question. They are quick to post what they have gotten from the foreigner on Facebook, but never mention how they got it or give at least some credit to the foreigner. It like they think they are entitled to it. It's just not right, and someone needs to talk about it, because we take all the risks.
