I was in the Philippines two different times, and both times I got the "Vertigo." First time from "Street Food," and about two years later, from "corn," also street food. I figured corn would be a lot safer. I was wrong. Both times I went to the hospital. Before I left the second time, the Dr. said to drink plenty of "Gatorade" (and water) because the Gatorade has "electrolyte." It did help out a lot. Thanks for the advice. Be safe.

Before watching: 1] Never Drink Tap Water. Anywhere. 2] Flushable Wipes or Ziplock of Napkins in Cargo Pocket. 3] Imodium. 4] Full Course of Favorite Antibiotic. 5] Hand Sanitizer. 5] Treat all dishes & utensils with 20:1 Bleach Rinse.

Bring Imodium and probiotics. You can buy it there. Go to a travel clinic before you travel and they will give you some stuff to take with you. Just carry some wipes with you.

The meat is not refrigerated in their wet markets 😮

If encountered, I know a pretty good cure and it's abundant in Angeles City - KIM CHEE. Other foods that help, but harder to find, are sauerkraut and Japanese Natto. Their fermentation helps the gut biome. Works for me.

Bring toilet paper, soap, deodorant and underwear! Always know where the nearest toilet is. I got caught in an old Robinson’s store. One minute I was fine, started coughing and disaster strikes.

Papaya seeds work well to help with diarrhea. Learned that when I was in central america and got diarrhea.

guys.... always choose hotel with a pool. that way you can get clean if there is no curtains in the bathroom. BUT GUYS... don't drink the pool water. So weird right..?

So I drank the bottled water called Spring Water. I was told I should have drank Absolute bottled water. Not only was the diarrhea bad, it was June and we stayed with her family with NO AIRCONDITIONING, and the other bad part was the fact her family had a hole in the ground for a toilet. I'm 6'5". 50 years old, and have weak knees from playing basketball for so many years. I never made it into the toiler. Always had to spend about 10 minutes cleaning up afterward.

I caught diarrhea from a prostitute during a trip to the Philippines. I had no medication for it and it really ruined my vacation. I listened to my brother and never went with another prostitute over there and of course never caught diarrhea again. Solid advice.

I’ve been to Mexico many times, and suffered twice, never eat the street food. I lived off home cooked food and bottled drinks and beer.🤣🤣

Well aware of "Montezuma's Revenge" in my travels to Mexico. For my travels to the Philippines I brought a Sawyer (brand name) water bottle. This water bottle has a filter inside that filters out the microbes that cause intestinal problems. It can be purchased and sporting good stores and Amazon in the U.S. I also carried some loperamide 2mg tablets which is the generic for Imodium A-D. This I purchased at Sam's Club in the U.S. 200 tablets cost ~$10usd. For upset stomach, I carried Pepto Bismol Tablets. These pack much easier than the liquid version of Pepto and you can easily carry a couple of tablets in your pocket. I stated in the province of Batangas for 7 months in 2023 and had no difficulty. Our water source was well water. After a couple of months, I didn't even use my Sawyer water filter. The meat and fish that we ate was always well cooked. I ate a large variety of fruits and even tried durian. About the only thing that is didn't eat was balut.

This is so funny, to hold a toilet paper role as a prop throughout the whole video! Lots of practical advice for the traveler. I live in NYC, and I don’t even drink the tap water here! Btw, ice cubes can kill! Not only for the use of tap water, but the insides of the ice cube machine has certainly never, ever been cleaned in years! The perfect home for deadly bacteria. “Avoid strange food and strange women”. Can I quote you on that? You are so direct! Agree, no salads. But you left out, no raw foods. Much as it would be great to try sushi, oysters, etc., unless you are at a very well known, top restaurant, with renowned chefs, leave it alone. And if you order meat in an unknown restaurant, how do you know that it is not an alley cat, a stray dog? You don’t! Seriously. When I travel in Asia, I stick with rice and veggies, wash it down with a good beer. Easy. 🍺🍚🥒

To avoid that i don't. Im always eating and eating then it happens sick stomach and restroom quick. Eating fruit with salsa and Tajin causes serious stomach problems for me. Restroom for an hour or 2 🤭😳. Im surprised how other can take it. I can't. Have to use the restroom on every fruit i eat with something spicy 😋. I'm Hispanic and we love you from 🇺🇸🇲🇽 to Philippines 🇵🇭 ♥️

I’ve seen people that will only drink bottled water brush their teeth in the sink water. Makes me laugh. As for the street food, only if the oil is clear. Hand sanitizer is a good thing everywhere. We used to call it Ho Chi Minh’s revenge.

Peel it, cook it or forget it! And use only original sealed water bottles. Don't drink from the tab.

Can't buy antibiotics in some western countries and most PH pharmacies too. For diarrhea, you'll probably need something like Flagyl / Metronidazole as often amoeba. Best bet yet, just day trip from the border at TJ or similar border town. Hola amiga.

NO fountain soft drinks either, the water used is probably tap/service water. Canned/bottled beverages ONLY!!! Read about the possible side effects of CIPRO, not worth the risk!!!

major generic pharmacy name here is TGP...and you can buy all pills by the single pill usually around P2-P5 per tablet..

It seems self-defeating to wash you hands with the local tap water. I prefer to eat with utensils anyway. Wait.. those are washed in the local tap water. 🤔 You're allowed three 3oz bottles of liquids in your carry-on and checked bag. That's a small tube of toothpaste and five 3oz bottles of Pepto.

You should not recommend people take ciprofloxacin. It has a black box label in the US because it (and other fluoroquinolones) can cause severe and rapid tendon degeneration and rupture, neuropathy, and other conditions. It's a drug that if taken without a doctor's oversight can cause serious life long complications.

Not a doc either, but I have my routine which is, Activated charcoal. When I went to Thailand I brought some with me, 'n they came in handy. Later in the Ph, I ran out and they don't carry them in drugstores. Kinda strange since you can buy milkshakes, soap, etc there with activated charcoal, so I ordered it on Amazon. I had way more issues with my stomach in Tland than in the Ph. In the Ph. it's only been bad a few times, and I think it was because of tap water.

So just eat sky flakes

12 reasons to not go to the Philippines.

90% of this, duhhh. Most of us have been to other places w similar issues. Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, Ice? Always make sure it is the cylinder, type. Salads? Make them yourself and wash it yourself leaf by leaf of course using purified water. If you are somewhere sketchy, drink cold beer and see it opened, in front of you,,, and not on ice or in their glass. I have found I need to carry tp, or pater towels just because every business is very stingy with napkins, and most bathrooms don’t have tp. Yes, businesses don’t refrigerate condiments like they should. Have a good Filipina to cook with and employ precautions like you have common sense.
