Thank you everyone for your comments, just want to clear something up about the defense position tip as a lot of people have questioned it. It does depend on many other factors but I oversimplified. Obviously you wouldn't place a 0 Def Mathmech Laplacian in defence. But a 3000/3000 Kashtira Arise-Heart should be placed in defence on turn 1. It also depends on what you find yourself playing against. If your monster has a greater chance of surviving in attack position then yeah place it in attack.

@@OvercastYGO since Naturia Beast can negate cards like Storm, Raigeki etc anyway, at a virtually unlimited rate, there's no reason to play it in def position with such a weak attack value. Sure it can get OTK'd by Mathmech, but that one deck is not worth changing the way you play the card unless you know for sure you're facing a deck that can one-punch you or if that deck is meta.

I think to add some context on the Maxx C part; shotgunning Maxx C on draw phase is good if you want to limit your opponent. Shotgun Maxx C should be used if your hand is decent enough to make a play and you don't really need the draw advantage. In this case its used to control how much your opponent can do, rather than it giving card advantage. Maxx C during main-phase, specifically after an opponent special summons is ideal for card advantage, because you will at least go-even in card advantage if its able to resolve, and you will gain card advantage if your opponent decides to continue special summoning which leads to a higher chance of drawing more disruptions. I know cards like TTT may be a threat, but given the context of when and how you use Maxx C, a player should be able to leverage the pros/cons.

The fifth one only applies to blindly firing Maxx C. If you chain it to an opponent's effect that special summons, you'd start turn two with five cards even after they use Talents to handrip. Depending on the decks that are meta or the popularity of Talents, and sometimes even if Talents is popular, waiting with Maxx C to go at least card neutral with it can be the best use of the card: your opponent may have wasted some resources or trigger effects to facilitate that special summon leaving them with an even worse hand for turn three than had they simply done nothing on turn one, since the handtraps or other non-engine that they opened may be enough to keep you from OTKing. I know that you said that on screen but you didn't mention it explicitly, maybe to not spend too much time on that point, so I took the liberty to elaborate in the comments. Overall an insightful video, though.
@OvercastYGO
@OvercastYGO 6 месяцев назад
This is true, I oversimplified many of the points on this video. It's gained a lot more views than I expected though. In the current format, I'm seeing a lot of Talents and Thrusts. And a lot of Kashtira Unicorn/Fenrir openings. And I'm seeing very few people on psy framegear gamma. So blind firing in draw phase is probably a good option. But Labrynths are probably going to be the top deck for the next month so it's likely to change to blind firing in the draw phase being a waste of a Maxx C. Thanks for the nice words.

2:01 This depends, I think. Right now in master rank there aren’t that many people playing Lightning Storm so Setting boss monsters like Baronne or chixao in defence mode can actually cost you the monster if your opponent runs over it with something like Unicorn Sometimes it’s better to play into lightning storm and not give them an easy out Of course this depends on the deck but I’m sure if we were playing convo heavy meta stuff then we probably wouldn’t be on this video 😹 Still a good point though
@OvercastYGO

Due to 4. Consider crossout stronger than called because of your statement. 6 is important when it comes to decks like the Starfrost family. When playing the lines correctly can have Arise and the link 3 scareclaw out on the field at the same turn. Playing around with the self summon locks. Good video!! I went into this a bit cynical, I kinda expected that none of this would be applicable to the decks I play, since I play exclusively rogue decks, particularly any type of Insects. Instead this video had a bunch of useful tips for staples that fit almost any deck, so these tips are really helpful for any player out there! Admittedly, a lot of these hints are things I already figured out on my own, but I think I definitely learned a thing or two here. The first time I ever defeated a Kashtira player was when my opponent locked themselves out of most of their monster effects by activating Skill Drain. Before then I was losing, and quite badly I might add. Since I was using my Eldlich Zombie World deck I may have been locked out of monster effects on my field as well, but I played around that remembering that Skill Drain only applies to monster effects on the field, but not in the hand or graveyard. Due to Kashtira decks relying heavily on monster effects activating on the field, it is not well suited for that particular achetype, but can work well in some decks that activate monster effects in the hand or the graveyard. My opponent likely misread the card and thought it also applied to graveyard and hand effects, and was probably also afraid I would use the effect of Eldlich the Mad Golden Lords moster stealing effect.

About the defense position stuff, in high ranks you won't usually find people who play lightning storm. So, it's actually better to put them in attack to play around zeus imo.
@ShiaSpirit
@ShiaSpirit 7 месяцев назад
The reason why you summon in attack position over defense position is that you play into ore things than summoning in defense. When sunmoning in defense, it plays around lightning storm which not many people play. When summoning in attack, you play around Zeus, Purrely Happiness in certain situations, and getting your momsters beaten over in general. You just have to play towards your outs, and LS isnt common enough for me to play around.
@OvercastYGO
@OvercastYGO 7 месяцев назад
Yeah I should have been a bit more specific on this one. That being said I haven't seen Zeus or any Purely decks in weeks. And I've seen quite a few Lightning Storms. But you are right, it depends on what you find yourself running in to a lot. And naturally you wouldn't put something like a 0 defence Mathmech XYX in defense position.

Thrust becomes live no matter what phase of the turn you activate Maxx 'C' in, so you're not really playing in to it. If you have don't control any monsters, which you won't as it's your opponents Turn 1, then the card they search from Triple Tactics Thrust has to be set on the field and can't be activated that turn. You'll also know what the card is.

Several boss monsters are played in attack due to low Def. It is very unlikely to see someone play Vanquish Soul Cesar in def as it only has a measly 1500 def and 3k attack. Same with Lovely Lab. They are easily beaten over with any Bystial, Kashtira, and the new Diablostar, which are all very easily summoned. Blind Maxx C is also not really a good recommendation either because SHS is very prevalent ATM, and they run gamma, if they gamma you, you have just given them a free lv 10 Syncro.

Baronne in DEF position can be beat over Diabellstar. One hit kills are extremely situational in meta decks. Final Sigma is super gimmicky in Mathmech anyway and Multiplication is an awful brick to play.
