The Cobb is smooth, powerful, tue etching is sick, and you can take a road trip in it, carry a conversation with your passengers, and still turn heads.
Of the two choices, the Cobb - by far - sounds better to me. But, then again, I prefer a deeper tone (which is why I have the Invidia Q300). So I'm definitely biased. :-)
AWE for the win. I love the way the Cobb looks but AWE for the sound and honestly, I love the Black tips. I will be doing AWE when I get ready for the cat back. It will be awhile but this video helps, so thank you!
This video got me SO Excited to get my AWE touring exhaust installed on my 2014 STI. It just showed up yesterday from Subimods. I'm also running a Grimmspeed downpipe. Stock headers. It'll be interesting to see what the differences in sound are.
Damn your build is clean af! The CF Front lip, side skirts and in back! Fresh bro..I’ve only had my 2020 wrx for a couple months so seeing videos like this is helpful! Thanks for the content man.
You may be satisfied but honestly I think you’ll love the invidia even more. I’ve got a full turbo back invidia and it’s pretty great. Drone is pretty rough but the sound is really nice.
I don't think I'll venture down the Invidia path. After experiencing two very high quality and great sounding setups that produce 0 drone, I don't think I can go back to a setup that drones just for sound. Might just be me getting older, but something with no drone really allows me to enjoy the experience that much more. I tend to drive the car a bit harder because of it since I am not constantly RPM hunting to stay out of the drone range. Lastly, slip joint exhausts are my calling. No more gasket/bolt joints for me haha. Less work and less headache!
Thanks for the great video man! Didn't know which one to get and thanks to your back to back comparison, I got the AWE touring for my 2021 sti Beautiful sound and can't wait for Saturday to get mines. Great videos man and beautiful machine amigo!!
Hi, I have to state: that's the best channel that i found on t net!!! Great videos, keep going !!! It's pleasure to watch it especially through receiver and my big speakers!!!!!!
They all sound the same when in higher rpm, but awe does have better low end sound for sure. I think the titanium actually has a louder turbo whistle from it but hard to notice in the cab because of the way titanium resonates. great video!
Hands down favorite catback! I have an 18 wrx with awe touring catback and maperformance downpipe non resonated with high flow cat. Looking forward to getting headers! Great videos great content cant wait to see whats next!
I know what you mean about retraining yourself to drive this car with mufflers in the back. Had that issue with the stock exhaust. I couldn’t hear the thing especially when the music was on. I used to stall my car because I couldn’t hear it. Lol.
honestly thank you so much for this video, i own a 2016 sti & am getting the AWE in the near future (hopefully) but i really want to switch to el headers (for reliability, since its my daily) & this is the first vid i have found showcasing this setup so again, thank you & nice car 😉
With someone on a budget modding cars, what would you say the biggest selling point is to get a new exhaust system if stock is satisfactory? you da best.
Refining the tone of an already great sounding car. Stock exhaust is very restrictive and quiet. Do something like a simple axle back wakes the car up (sound wise) and makes it a way more engaging experiencing.
Love the comparison video, thanks Chris. @2:11 to @2:19+ - precisely why I'd never install an AWE Touring. That sound alone bothers the F out of me. Delta and AWE definitely have the best high rev and take off sound by far. SS/Titanium Cobb and Q300 is still my main choice. There's also a place called Lachute Performance near Montreal, Quebec, Canada that makes their own products - I might check it out in person soon.
That sound you are referring to is just the cold start. When the motor is cold, the RPM's rev a bit higher to warm up the cats. It only lasts about 15-20 seconds and then the RPM's drop down and that specific sound stops. It happens with any exhaust with limited resonators. That was even louder on the Delta setup, so hearing the awe do that at a much lower volume didn't bother me. I don't think you could go wrong with either of your choices. The Q300 is a great option when paired with EL or a downpipe. Has great tone. Personally, I would opt for the Cobb due to their much higher build quality. I've seen some questionable fitment on the Invidia q300 over the years and after experiencing the Cobb, I think it's a no brainer which to choose. Either way, I am glad to have helped in your decision!
That specific fluttering loud noise out of the exhaust is actually from the air pump. My car did that with stock cat back but 3 inch down pipe. I’ve since put on a 3 inch turbo back, but I don’t get that flutter noise as I’ve deleted the air pump. Delete the air pump and you’ll have a much quieter, steady tone.
@@Scoobyfreak86 Thanks for the info and content Chris. The Q300 was on a long back order in Canada and the AWE Touring was my 2nd choice and ordered it today :) Arriving on Oct. 4th, a few days after I get the '21 STI. After reading the comments, listening to the videos and doing more research, I've changed my mind on the AWE Touring for the better. Thanks again for the content!
This just makes me more 😡 that I was flaked (kid had agreed to drive to me from upstate NY to PA to swap for my Cobb SS and of course left me on read on the agreed upon day 🙄)....I would've really enjoyed this exhaust... The Cobb SS is just a stainless version of the Titanium but still about as quiet for those wondering!
Good video. I would say for me... I like the way the Delta sounded the best. (Never heard of that brand either, but i'm a newbie to the Subie world) It was loud with a deep low rumble which I think that sounds best and makes the STI sound like it has a 8 cylinder and not a 4... But what I think sounds even better then all 3 of your exhaust is my Invidia R400 exhaust. While it does have a drone on the highway that takes some getting use to, it's popular for a reason. And that reason is it sounds freaking AWESOME!! Deep, Loud, nasty... Like a big block V8. It really brings out the Subie Rumble. I would give it a try if you have the opportunity and the funds LOL. Well thats my 2 cents. Keep the videos coming.
@@Scoobyfreak86 Its the same price as the AWE which is also popular but gets a bad wrap because of fitment issues. The drone on the Invidia does suck lol but I love the sound. I totally understand you not willing to deal with it.
@@Scoobyfreak86 I was going back and fourth between the Invidia and the Borla, but looking at pics of the Borla, the weld quality looks shotty compared to the Invidia
_Very_ well done exhaust sound comparison video. If you had said that you film with a professional camera and microphone, I would have believed you! As to which exhaust I prefer, the Cobb takes the cake for me. Looking forward to more videos. Cheers!
I think the main difference between the touring and the track will be at cruise I honestly thing on acceleration there won’t be a huge difference. Curious to hear the difference though.
did the awe have alot of drone considering how loud it is? i have the Fullrace elh/tomei ti/ catless dp combo and the "boom' noise around 2500 rpms is enough to drive me insane lol just a terrible drone
@@Scoobyfreak86 that's great to hear! I really hate to get rid of my tomei, but I also would like to have decent hearing when I'm old lmao. have you tried any of the ets catback exhausts? I was also considering those too!
Another great video mate :) I'm torn between all of them, they all sound good.... though if it came down to my own money.... it would be AWE first (because I'm cheap), then COBB (because I like quality gear.... and pretty stuff LOL). Cheers, Don (Perth, W.Australia)
Hey man I’m in Brisbane and believe me awe is not cheap, I just bought awe touring for my sti waited 3 months $2600 for a catback. Sounds amazing but I’m crazy for spending that much
I have a similar setup, Grimmspeed catted DP + Awe Touring CBE, sounds amazing. I plan to go elh in the future, does it make it louder inside the cabin?
AWE FTW, no contest. How are you getting popping on downshifts? Im running a Remark cat back exhaust (w/ mufflers), perrin downpipe + pro tune, 93 OCT. Are the AWE mufflers just not as, well, muffled? Allowing more sound? I get some pops but no where near as much as you are getting them.
Based on my experience, this is how I would rate them out of 10. 10 being the loudest. 4/10: Cobb, 8/10 AWE Touring, 10/10 AWE Track/Delta. Although, I would be willing to bet the touring isn't that much quieter than the track. It's surprisingly loud for the large mufflers.
how much louder is the awe cold start compared to the cobb? I currently have an AWE touring with grimmspeed DP with stock UEL headers. I had my friend drive my car for the first time and realized how loud it was. I'm currently looking for a quieter exhaust and the cobb SS and invidia q300 were the options.
Cobb is much quieter. I would say a much more neighbor friendly exhaust all around. The awe touring is quite loud at start up. Louder than you’d expect.
I agree, the cobb is definitely the nicest looking exhaust out there and the weight loss going to titanium is fairly substantial. However, not something one would notice on the street.
@@Scoobyfreak86 . Perhaps. But if that's the standard when it comes to car modification, that they must be noticed, then we all have a lot of de-modification to do because dare I say, that 75-80% of the mods we do are not noticeable individually.
So now that we have established you are not a "gentleman" 🤣🤣 when it comes to an exhaust what well heeled "gentleman" 😉 will be buying your Cobb Titanium?
Tell me your life sucks and you’re miserable, without telling me your life sucks and you’re miserable. Imagine focusing so much on what Chris does in his life that you get out of your way to comment that. Go be a loser somewhere else. Sounds like mad jealousy
Hell I bought the palisade because the KIA's were on such a back order, both are fantastic family cars. Much like Chris, I look for a reason to drive it over the sti (when the wife will let it go). Keep up the great vids!!
