Johnny Cash sang a lot back in the day after his salvation as born again believer, he'd go to all the prisons in America and sang gospel tunes. I love his later works here as a devoted Christian he basically sang to whomever would listen, that needed to hear the great message.

An uncommon request but I always thought Ragged Old Flag was very powerful, unique, and beautiful.

Back when I Was a child in the seventies, my dad used to work the midnight shift and got off 8 o'clock in the morning and on the way home he'd listen to the radio and a new Johnny Cash song came pn and he know I would love, so he stopped be the record store and bought me the 45rpm to "One Piece at a Time".

This song holds a special place in my heart for all the wrong reasons. I'm a distance runner and we have a weekly run called the "long run". It's basically just a normal run that's a little longer than your everyday easy run, likely 90mins-2hrs or so. Anyways, one Saturday I'm out on my long run. It's a rainy, somber, kind of day and I'm suffering on this run. Not sure if I didn't warm up well, or I just started out too quick, but I'm grinding hard to the finish line, wondering if I can even make it. Then, out of thin air, mixed into a playlist of Tool and mostly prog rock, Pandora throws me this song. Everything about the song fit the way I felt. The sad timbre fit the rainy day and then the chorus. I'm on my "long run" and here's this guy telling me I can "run on, for a long time". The actual sport has nothing to do with the song, but Johnny helped me pull through. It's a mantra I use now when I feel crappy on a run.

One of the best from The Man in Black. My favorite Johnny Cash songs are Walk the Line, Ghost Riders in the Sky, and Cocaine Blues.

The song is older than you realize. It goes back to 1937 & was recorded multiple time prior to the lady you mentioned. Johnny Cash recorded this just prior to his passing. The guy who produced the video recorded the celebrities as they listened to the song for the first time. Their reactions were spontaneous. They were not told to lip sync or anything.

Hard to choose which is my favorite Cash song. There's just too many.. I like his live performance of "San Quentin" at the San Quentin prison. They portrayed that performance in the Walk the Line movie. But I've always preferred his earlier work, over his later stuff. Though it's all great.

Hey man if you haven't already, check out his song Wayfaring Stranger. It's an old gospel song that he covered in one of his later albums. Just a beautiful song in my opinion.

Due to his voice it sounds like it's from around the same time the Great collection "Cash unearthed" came out...a big box set...I can't find it there. But there was also another box set released. Both produced by Rick Rubin. John played all kinds of songs from gospel to rock'n'roll. A lot of them with only him and his guitar.

Johnny recirded this before he did Hurt but he oassed before he got the video conceot diwn and priduced. Thise multiple cameos are the friends and resoecters of Johnny and they got together to do the video and get Jihnny'd song out there. As Johnny ad libs, he heard Gid soeak to him and told him to do His will and get this message out. His friends saw to it that it happened. Hiw many if them do you recognize?

It’s a real tough one but my favorite Cash song has to be “Rock Island Line”. It’s an old one and I believe actually a cover of an old folk song. It’s not his deepest most meaningful lyrically but I’ve loved it since I was a kid. It has one of my favorite lines of all time… “Oh I may be right and I may be wrong, but you’re gonna miss me when I’m gone”.
