Gives you a real trial run of what college classes are all about. Oh, you spent an exorbitant amount of money taking our class? Well too bad, the class actually means nothing and you have to take a separate test to actually get a license for something. Don't worry though, we also happen to host the test, which will be another $400. And don't forget to donate to your alma mater in the future! American education is a fucking circus act.

Because of the pandemic, AP Tests got cancelled. However, I was taking AP Computer Science Principles, and the way that class works is you have this project at the end of first and second semester, and both count towards your AP Test scores, too. However, with Corona, they made it so the AP Test score is simply from the 2 projects. Now, these projects were also turned in class and graded by our teacher as part of our grade for the actual class as well as being turned in for the AP Exam. I got an A on both of the projects by my teacher. AP Exam Score: 2. Fucking 2. When I followed all the directions, met all the requirements, and did extra on both projects. And they didn't give any sort of explanation. Absolute fucking bullshit.

I took only one ap exam because I plan on doing IB my junior and senior years (I am not in the USA). That AP exam was AP Seminar, and for those of you who have taken it, you will know the exam has a decent amount of writing. So on with the story, I ride my bike to school, and on this particular day (day of the examination), it had just rained the night before so the road was wet, and I had to swerve because someone was approaching me. Because of this I fell and broke my arm as well as my tooth, I got up and tried to collect myself, I had considered turning back and going home to address my injuries. but I realized I needed to inform my teacher that I need to take the exam at another time, so I dragged myself and my broken bike to school with my ears buzzing and unable to see clearly. I made it to school and took a minute to straighten myself, and walked up to the teacher in charge of the exam and told him about my injuries, and he could visibly see my broken tooth. He told me I wouldn't be getting my money back if I did not take the exam, and it was too late for me to go to the nurse because the exam was going to begin in 2 minutes. so I walked in, picked up my pen with my broken right arm, and wrote for 90 minutes through unbearable pain. By the end, I was on the verge of passing out. I then went to the doctor's and was all healed after a month. the exam was 50% of the grade, and in the course, I scored a 3. among my A's, this 3 was the proudest grade I ever earned.

@lucasl8689
@lucasl8689 2 года назад
Also, because dual-credit / dual-enrollment courses are regular college courses, the amount of material you have to cover is often a lot less. When I took AP Bio (shit, that was ages ago now), it actually covered the equivalent of 4 semesters within only 2 semesters, with a comprehensive exam. It was impossible for the teacher to cover everything within that timespan, and teachers always carried the brunt of the responsibility for trying to guess what parts to cover. The likelihood was that you'd have to choose from essay questions that were never taught. Then the university I went to didn't accept AP Bio scores at all. Which really sucks after getting decent scores after taking the AP exam immediately after returning to school after pneumonia. I ended up having 4 semesters of Bio where I didn't have to study at all because I still had all of that from AP Bio, though.

@bloopletank2491
@bloopletank2491 2 года назад
Do you have advanced/honors courses or like a baseline that matches our advance or medium advanced courses? I'm not gonna lie, I live in the US and only now did I realize how weak our education is. Comparatively to people my own age I've always been the best at mathematics by far, and am 3 years ahead of my peers in highschool as a sophomore, but I was still stunned by the content of our MCAS (which is like the mandated exam for students all over the state of Massachusetts, which is ranked highest in education in the US last time I checked). This was the mathematics test that would be determining whether or not we would be capable of graduating and is able to be taken up to 3 times, yet all it was was basic algebra, estimation and a little geometry. I had heard from some of my peers about how they said their brains felt fried after that, and it's making me wonder why schools seem to place mathematics levels below that of English language arts. For me the AP exam for calculus was free, and I actually found it respectable in terms of difficulty, and somewhat fun for the challenge that it posed. It felt like a proper test for determining what a student is capable of aside from the time restraints putting a focus on speed, but I hate knowing that very few students will actually be held to a test of such a level. I hope it's much better in Europe.

@AB-ez1eh
@AB-ez1eh Год назад
@@ocpopsmoke honestly that’s gonna depend on your school/teachers. AP classes have college board which is the organization that determines the curriculum for AP classes/makes the tests so they’re all pretty similar from school to school. But in general, regular and honors classes should be easier than AP. Sometimes they teach the exact same concepts, you just don’t have the rigor in assignments and exams that an AP class would because AP is meant to mimic a college class. Sometimes there’s more writing in an AP class since the AP tests have written sections. Things may have changed since I applied for college, but I was told colleges like seeing you took AP/honors and would rather see you got a B in an AP/honors class than an A in a regular class

It depends on the state and college. In Texas, the state school system forces every accredited university to provide some sort of credit for scores of 3 and above, with a full 5 usually allowing that entire college course to be skipped. Also, in Texas, colleges are forced to accept students based on GPA. For instance, UT usually accepts the top 7% of a graduating class (with certain caveats). Because AP courses are ranked on a 5.0 scale, taking AP courses is required for a "perfect" GPA.

Yea, the author of the video doesn't seem to want to emphasize that fact. Even a single 3 hour class at just about ANY college or university will set you back at least a few hundred. I do agree that the earlier signup is a bit of a cash grab on their part, guilting more people into taking the exam that really would be wasting their money, time and livelihood.

Nah, AP test fees are still exploitative. This is ignoring the fact that you can pay for college classes with scholarships and loans. Also you can be on a payment plan that lets you pay for things in increments, so you can work and save. You need to pay for AP Exams out of pocket before you can even graduate. Also, a lot of students are still poor in high school... And those students should have need-based and merit-based aid regardless of where their credit is coming from, but high schools don't give them ANY.

My High School was a College Prep HS so no students payed for any thing and was told that we could also work on something with the school with taking another AP exam that the school didn’t offer a class for. They just wanted people who really wanted to take the classes. But coming from someone who took one in my 11th grade year and 4 on my senior year, only 1 would of matter for my major (CS BS) so I stressed my life in 11th grades with a class I didn’t need to take (and while trying to prepare for my SAT) (and in the end getting a 2 on the AP and getting a “meh” on my SAT) and then 12th grade, stressed about my 4 AP (with other issues regarding one class cause the teacher was pregnant and left for 4 months and then tried to cramp everything) with then the test prep of how the test would be formatted being thrown out the window due to COVID interrupting my year and CB trying to scramble around on how to work with the issue, coming to the online route (which is another issue to go off on). For majority of the people I known getting 1s and 2s (with me included). So I’m the end I stressed myself for 2 years for no reason cause it wasn’t even going to help that much anyway. 😐😫😮‍💨

I’m glad that my school doesn’t have many AP classes. Instead they do a thing called dual-enrollment where you can take community college classes at the school and get both high-school credits and college credits from the community college at the same time. While it is about the same price as a AP test, dual enrollment was so much better because the classes were much easier than AP classes, you got credit based on your grade spread out through a whole semester/year rather than on one single test, and credits transferred much easier (at least in-state) to other colleges since you were seen as just a transfer student from a community college. Some people, including myself, were even able to get an associates degree while still in high school.

God, the early registration in November really screwed me over my senior year. I was at a boarding school my first semester and had no idea about the early registration, and I wasn't expecting to find myself in any AP classes until I came back home for my second semester. I didn't really *want* to be in those classes, but I was semi forced to take them. Regardless, I tried registering for the exam, but they said it was too late for me to register. And I couldn't ever sign into my College Board account, and I got little to no help from my teachers or CB staff. I was essentially told I couldn't take the exams and that was final. Funny enough, the pandemic hit during that second semester. My teachers said I wasn't required to go to class anymore, since I wasn't going to take the test and all they were going to focus on for the rest of the year was test prep, so I was dismissed early. Luckily I got a refund for my tests since I couldn't actually take them. (At least... I *think* I got refunded...)

I'm taking my exams just to scam my school into letting me commit truancy. ... Let me explain. I probably won't get much college credit because I want to go to Columbia, but my school refunds fees for passing. The only real attendance incentive at my school, other than punishments for absurd numbers of unexcused absences, is having to take semester exams. Usually, I am the person who goes to school sick and will do anything to stay under three absences so I can get my exemption because it usually hurts your grade. AP exams make me automatically exempt, and since all my classes are AP this year, I can miss as much school as I want so long as I don't go over the legality limit. I will almost certainly fail the AP chemistry, but it's okay. I can skip school.
