I bought a set of these brackets because I thought if I set up camp for a long weekend and roll out my awning, it would be good to be able to leave the awning covering my camp when I went for a drive. Good in theory, but in practice, not so much. The problem is that you at least 3 people to set it up for free-standing, 2 people to lift the awning with a pole in hand and 1 person to move the car out of the way then hammer in pegs for guy ropes. I tried doing it myself because I'm normally by myself in the car and it was such a pain in the arse, setting up a 3x3 tarp is much easier than this. If you want to be able to remove the awning after a trip, use it at home, on different vehicles or on different sides of your vehicle then I think it's a great idea. But there are much, much easier ways of setting up a free-standing awning.

Well done Tim What a great idea, I’ve been thinking about how I can have a free standing awning for a long time now but that answered my thinking, I’ve got a Gunya awning I brought many many years ago and I fit it to all my new vehicles and it’s still going very well and no rips or damage after all these years, thanks Tim.

Hi Tim, could you tell me the vertical spacings of bolt holes on both brackets please? Bit suspicious of the plastic construction though, what’s your view? Cheers, Max.

Does the LED lights strip in the awning use much power? Could I run one for a few hours at night using the factory cig plug?

How do you mount that to the cross bar roofrack?
