I'm glad I found your channel, I just subscribed. That's a great story about the jersey, I found my only phantom bevel axe in a burnt down house on my birthday. It's like these axes fall down from heaven in the strangest places.

That Tommy axe would probably fetch at least 30 on it's own. The Kelly perfect is worth $100 easy. More of it cleans up good. You done good. The Tommy axe came in 2 versions. One with the nail puller, one without. Original handles where octagon. Good score man!

Thanks Chris !! Makes me happy to hear that, the camera makes it tough to tell but that kelly perfect is in great condition, the pole is almost perfect, the toe has some slight wear. Hey that’s really interesting about the Tommy axe, thank you !! The octagon handles came on the Tommy !! That’s awesome. Thanks again man !!!

Thank you so much for watching !! Oh man I bet, it’s like a match made in heaven !! Believe it or not I still haven’t gotten around to cleaning up and hanging the Tommy axe. Now that you bring up the idea of breaking down pallets, I may have to put to the top of the list. We have a ton of pallets they need to get broken down and I normally just use a hammer, but using a the Tommy axe will definitely suit me better 👍 thank you !!

I use boiled linseed oil all over my axes. Head and handle. Just like you said on the handle if you cake it on it will get stick. I pretty much just use a little bit wiped on then let it soak for 5 mins or so then wipe of any excess. One time I accidentally left my axe outside. Some time during the night it started raining a very heavy down pour rain. When I woke up I realized what I had done and thought my axe is gonna be ruined. I ran outside brought it in, thought for sure my handle was gonna swell up my head was gonna rust like crazy. It literally didn't do anything. Handles fine, no rust on the head at all and this after hours of being in heavy rain. Ever since then everything gets the BLO.

I can tell you put a lot of thought into this video, great job! Really like how thoroughly you went over everything. Those axes you found 🤯. That’s so cool!! Man a Kelly perfect is a great find. Reminds me of An Axe to Grind video. That was Bernie Weisberger’s favorite axe. Love it! I know you’ll give it a good home. Looks like the handle is salvageable too, which is sweet! Sorry to hear about the hand injury. Wishing you a fast recovery!

Thank you so much Codi !! Yeah man I’m still shocked how I found this axe I can’t wait to get it re hung and swing it …. Once my hand is better 😑 lol As far as the handle goes there is a large crack in it and it’s warped as of it was leaning up against a wall for years. I should have done more of a close up !! But it’s on I really think a killinger French curve handle will look so cool paired with this head !! While my hand is healing I think I’m going to do a short series on restoring and hanging this axe !! Thanks again man !!

Look at you! What a great idea for a video. How to suspend (hang) your axes for storage & short/long term care. Wow! That's a great video explaining your methods. You know what would be another great video? Electrolysis rust removal process. Because it only removes the rust & not the metal, it's perfect for your yard sale treasures.

@940joey2 2 года назад
Thank you so much !! Hey man you inspired the video so thank you !! Yeah that could definitely be a great video I’ve never removed rust with electrolysis, might give it a shot on a scrap piece of metal before I try it on an axe head first !! Thanks again I really appreciate the support 👍

@@940joey2 I did a vintage axe of my Father-in-Law's. The axe & a wedge were covered in rust. I did the wedge in vinegar only for a week or so. It was super clean with a little wire brushing off. I did the electrolysis process on the axe using OxyClean with a little vinegar added for good measure. It was just as clear of rust but only after a couple hours. It probably didn't need that long either. Here are a couple of good videos to start with. There are many others. @@940joey2 The best thing about rust removal with vinegar or the electrolysis process is that they remove the rust & not ther metal. After both were cleaned you could see inside micro pits or pores & see that the rust was gone & the only thing left on the metal was patina.

@940joey2 2 года назад
@@waynemiller6945 that’s good to hear because I’ve seen people use a grinding disc and put actual low spots in axe heads from not moving quick enough, so this will probably be a great option for people who aren’t as comfortable around power tools.

Wow what a find! Very cool axe pattern to trip over! Lookin forward to the finished product. Axe heads, I spray with wd40 and hit with a brass wire cup brush on an angle grinder. Leather I neglect until I feel bad, then hit with leather cleaner and re apply some Dubbin conditioner. Handles I might oil every now and then, every mark tells a story! Great vid man hope your hand heals up well👍👍
@940joey2
@940joey2 2 года назад
Thank you Kurt !! Yeah man I’m really excited about this find !!! Oh yeah wd40 is def a good light oil to use. Hahaha yeah I use to be pretty bad with my leather (my work boots) but I’ve been trying to be a lot better with it, it definitely helps my stuff last longer. Axe sheath obviously isn’t taking as much abuse as my work boots, so I’m not so crazy about being on top of the sheaths but every once in a while. And yeah I do that once in a while too especially if I’m working in damp conditions a lot with an axe I might run and oily rag over the handle. Thanks again Kurt and I’m trying to be as good as I can with my hand, it’s hard for me to no do stuff but I’m trying to take it easy. Mainly so I can get back to work and so I can chop again !!

Not subscribed but tune in from time to time thanks to Kevin's Disobedience. Out of all the odds that was a great yard sale find. I have three True Temper Tommy axes and love them for being a small axe. Their weight is a head scratcher because they're lighter than a boy's axe and heavier than a hatchet. Because of that I use them more as a light axe, something that i can carry in to chop with in those tight quarters on 24 inch-ish sticks. I have entertained the notion to myself that these little axes are Gransfors SFA killers.
@940joey2
@940joey2 2 года назад
Thanks for checking out the video !! Oh man you’re not kidding I’m still shocked I found these axes !! You know it’s funny you say that about the Tommy axe, I say that about my flying fox and I suppose will be saying it about the Tommy axe soon too !! I’m torn on what length handle to put in it, I was going to maybe go traditional 16 inch.
@skaagkaal2613
@skaagkaal2613 2 года назад
@@940joey2 That would be fine and work for most people depending what you're going to do with it. In my opinion the head weight is on the heavy side for a one handed hatchet but it's not exactly a boy's axe right either. Hence why I threw mine on 24 inch handles because I already have hatchets that work just fine. And the longer handles don't make them too unwieldy for me to use single handed.
