Tool links below. In this video I show how to remove a 25 year old rusted axle nut without using air tools. Dremel 9902 Tungsten Carbide Cutter amzn.to/2YvjZtc Dremel 2050-15 Stylo amzn.to/2W7Fxye
Dealt with a few stuck axle nuts. Tried breaker bars, heat + candle wax, etc. The only method that worked for me was using MAP gas torch to get the axle threading super super hot, ~10 mins, then poured water on it. With a jack stand supporting the axle socket, the nut finally broke free. The heat expands the thread, then the water rapidly contracts it, and it should break free. Good luck
Nice video. Get yourself a Bernzomatic 8000 & some MAP gas. It’ll heat up a spindle nut in about 5-10 mintutes plenty hot enough to break loose. Heat is your friend when trying to remove stuff like that.
Thanks for the advice. I am dealing with one of these axle nuts and I used a rotary tool to cut some notches hoping to use a chisel to turn the nut as opposed to splitting it. Long story short I ended up with a nut that was so chewed up beyond recognition that I could never hope to get a socket on it. Good call replacing that wheel bearing, that thing looked about done.
Sounds like a good idea I'm having a problem with a axle nut the socket spun on the nut so it's stripped or rounded I think I'm going to try the dremel thank you.
thank you i got a axle nut from hell on my honda atv im going to have to take a drill bit to it and do the same type thing as you. think it would work like that cutter price you got there? or do i need something like that?
My 2004 silverado had a stuck on axle bolt. Totally rounded out. Normally it's a 36mm. I just banged on a 35mm and prayed a bit. Got it to Crack with the breaker bar and Pipe. The sweetest sound on earth 🌎
Soaked it with lube, twisted end off breaker bar and gave up for the day. Bought tungsten carbide tool and just like you, had it off in 20 minutes. Great technique.
