AyaNeo's new Air 1S console combines the power of AMD's Ryzen 7840U with a tiny form factor and an AMOLED screen to produce a unique piece of handheld hardware, while the AyaNeo 2S offers a larger, LCD-based alterative with more flexibility on power. How well do they handle games? How much faster are they than Steam Deck? How does the 7840U in the new AyaNeo handhelds compare with the Z1 Extreme in the ROG Ally? We had so many questions on this one, and here's where you get some answers!

The problem with Aya Neo is that 1 day after you get one, they announce a new faster model again. Aya Neo is kind of the new Sega.

Yep, There's been so many of them in such a short timespan, that I'm now completely and utterly confused as to which one is which and what order they got released in. There's just been far too many of them and most of them weren't even needed.

@@fafski1199Yeah. I have no clue about the difference either and i don't care, because there is probably a new model already after i wrote this. Steam Deck and Asus Rog Ally is a better choice. @@shadowthehedgehog181Yeah. Aya Neo may die out later, because the competition globally starts when Lenovo get their PC handheld out. Acer is probably secretly making a "Predator" too for the mass market. With huge brands you also get local warranty unlike with Aya Neo.

I prefer Valve's policy of releasing just one device. Easier to support until the next one comes out later on, instead of releasing 3 devices every year...

I don't understand Aya's logic here, but it doesn't inspire confidence. Perhaps they're too excited? maybe too successful? feeling too confident? no idea. How are they planning to support all those models and skus? Honestly I would feel salty If I bought one Aya just for them to announce a better model couple of months later (which is why I am satisfied with my Steam Deck). I know they are relatively new company lacking experience, regardless, they should've looked at Sony, Nintendo and Xbox, or if they had to have multiple models, just copy Apple's strategy, fewer models, better support, happier customers. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

More like 7 devices per year... They are just spitting out anything they could to gain more popularity, without too much care of long-term supporting one specific device, I think. Spreading their fishing net as wide as they can, catching as many fish as they can
@NeroVingian40
@NeroVingian40 9 месяцев назад
If you needed an explanation for it, well, they’re doing it so that they can keep sales going consistently throughout the year. Valve doesn’t have to do this since their revenue mainly comprised of Steam sales, and smartphone companies like Apple and Samsung don’t have to either since they sell millions of devices per generation. For companies like Ayaneo and the likes, they have to keep selling new devices because granted, each device doesn’t really sell enough numbers in the first place. Selling new devices is probably the only way for them to keep revenue flow consistent enough to keep their company afloat.

While looking at the Forza segments (15:15, for example), I realized that it's a bit hard to see the numbers up top clearly and they could use some shaded background to help with that. Great review otherwise. It's really interesting and exciting to see the handheld marked become so popular and even crowded since the Steam Deck came out. Love seeing DF focus on some of these handhelds. AyaNeo, Ambernic, Ayn, and others are pretty fascinating. In the West, China is often associated with cheap and low quality - but the products coming out of these companies seem to be managing to be both high quality and cheaper than Western alternatives. The Legion Go defiantly looks like a Steam Deck on Steroids, TBH, it looks to be a combination of most of the good bits that have been taken from other PC handhelds, along with some added ideas and innovations. The detachable controller doubling up as a mouse is not only intriguing, but could be genius if it works well. Same with the connectable AR Smart Glasses and them also adding a trackpad, like on the Steam Deck. However, it still doesn't look like it's quite perfect and their still looks to be some questionable features and likely some cons, like it's huge size (defiantly not pocket sized), it's weight, it's ergonomics, it's battery life, it's support, the software used and it's cost. Although TBH, it's price isn't nearly half as bad as most PC handhelds and it really isn't too bad at all, when you consider what you are getting (for starters, a 8.8-inch 144Hz QHD+ (3K) touchscreen display, that could easily double up as a pretty powerful tablet or media player) I know one thing for sure, most techies who have gotten their hands on one, seem to be drooling all over it.

Both of them have two small of a battery. I'm remotely interested in Ayaneo Kun due to the battery, but at the same time, at this stage it is safer to wait till Strix Point is here. The bandwidth bottleneck will be solved mostly and power efficiency will be better. I wish there would be a Steamdeck 2 on that chip, that would be an instant buy even at 1K USD. Until those batteries get better I think I’m really locked in at 15 watt performance or even lower in many cases. There I don’t think we’ve seen much of a shift from the deck yet. I hope amd pushes the ball forward on those lower power draw targets. Sure, you can get better perf, if you crank up power draw and the device can’t survive a plane ride.
@paul1979uk2000
@paul1979uk2000 9 месяцев назад
To me, that's where the real problem is, you can have more performance if you are willing to throw more wattage at it but then it starts to kill battery life. Until battery tech gets better or it's a lot cheaper to put a bigger battery in these devices, 15 watts seem like a better compromise on performance and battery life, at least on the go and when you put it all together, it's understandable why Valve isn't releasing a Steam Deck 2, the performance uplift at 15 watts is too small to warrant a Deck 2, it's got to be at least 50% faster than the Deck and ideally, double the performance of the Deck, that clearly won't happen until Zen 5 and RDNA 4, and even then it might be pushing it. I've got to admit, the more I look at these other portable gaming devices, the more impressed I am with the Steam Deck considering the hardware it's got and the performance it's managing to deliver at 15 watts, also whiles doing it with Windows games running through Linux. If these other gaming devices actually had a bigger performance uplift at 15 watts, then I would be more impressed, but honestly, the performance uplift is kinda poor that I might as well just buy a Steam Deck.
