The energized Archy. What a dog. I like how the other two just watch him. Those chicks are so cute. A coop built by Mike will be predator proof for sure. Good luck with the chickens. Slope is coming together very well. It would take a lot of force to break a tooth off the thumb. Hope Hunter and Eva are doing well. Stay safe.

Good morning all! Another great morning on the screened porch watching OWTM. I guess it didn’t occur to me that breaking all the small limbs off was quicker than cutting them. Probably is only because the operator was a lot better than I am! That shot of the woodyard from up at Melissa’s post hole filling project was impressive. The drone shot showing a nearly empty firewood bin was a surprise! You must have an acre (probably not actually, but figuratively anyway) of IBC totes full of split wood! Levi’s been busy!

Hello Morgan's from Oregon. Raising chickens is fun and they grow so fast. Fresh eggs are always awesome! A couple of tidbits for raising chicks, if they aren't eating or drinking good, put shiney marbles in the water and food dish. They will peck at the marbles and end up getting water and food for their effort. They will need a heat lamp on the cold nights. Have fun, with your incredible operation there.

I can understand how that bothered you enough to go look at 9:00 at night, and the more i thought about it, yes they thought a finger on the thumb was missing because of the angle or something blocking their view. As you put your hand on the finger, the size and girth of that steel, man, for that to break off, surely you would feel that! How could you not? I honestly can't even think of a way to break one of those fingers. Anyway, glad that was a fluke. I really enjoyed watching you take the chestnut tree down. How nice that must feel, knowing the effort and aggravation of cutting a tree down and delimbing it w a saw, sitting on the comfortable seat in the cab of the excavator. Sweet! It was nice watching Melissa playing w Archie and filling the fence post holes. I think Archie is such a fun filled dog, he was just daring ya'll to try and take that stick from him! A very nice video today, thank you very much.👌🚜❤

LOVE you got chickens back... We raise and sell, locally, what I consider to be the four best breeds. Bard rock, New Hampshire Red, Rhode Island Red, and black Australorps... Plus eight breeds of ducks.... Now you need Australorps... Black chickens keep birds of pray away. Motion lights work, and these red light things that look like eyes.... Im in Alaska we have everything fox, bears, wolves, and many others... so far we havent had any losses....

Mike and Melissa. I have a huge outside run as well. I buried heavy 1/2” wire 12” down below ground and 12” outward so that any predators can’t dig under. And besides my big 20x16 metal roof cover, some netting overtop has deterred hawks as well. I haven’t lost any chickens to predators

you mentioned in your discussion about the foxes and the Hawks, that last night you heard of Fox making a lot of racket outside your home. I'm sure you already know this but maybe have forgotten, this is the season for foxes to be making little foxes if you know what I mean and they make a tremendous amount of screeching and howling sounds when that is occurring. I'm not saying I know that is a fact that was what occurring at your home, but in our part of the country, middle Kansas, we hear that quite often during this season.

We are starting our 4th year with mixed-breed chickens. The wife's favorites are the Easter-eggers (blue eggs), and mine are the Marans, a giant tank of a chicken that lays dark chocolate colored eggs. I'm not a carpenter, so I way overbuilt the coop. Good thing, because two weeks after we put the 12-week pullets inside we had a cat1 tornado go right over the property. Despite $62K damage to the house, the coop escaped with no damage at all! Their run is made from 6' tall panels from three Tractor Supply dog kennels, and the run roof is galvanized steel. An 8000-volt electric fence surrounds everything. We have not lost a single chicken to a predator in the four years. That said, we have a terrible problem with tunnelling rats that are after the small bits of spilled feed. The buried hardware cloth around the perimeter of the run wasn't deep enough, and the rats tunnel right under it. They are smart, too. Traps only work for one or two, the rest learn and avoid the traps. War is hell...

The foxes will dig underneath the chicken fence. 1. Bury the fence, not a good option since the fence will corrode in the ground. 2. Run a strand of electrified wire around the fence close to the ground. 3. Lay wire mesh inside the fence.
