Just a few things kinda responding to your analysis: - BABYMETAL formed in 2010 with the original trio of Su-Metal, Moametal, and Yuimetal, when they were just 12 and 11 years old as a sub-unit of the J-Pop group Sakura Gakuin. Their producer heard her when she was like 10ish years old and thought her voice was so powerful and she has such a strong stage presence that she wouldn’t be over-powered by a full metal band. She has been performing in some form since she was 6 years old. Su-Metal rarely sings with any vibrato as well. Her voice has always been like raw power, when she was young she still sang with that power but she wasn’t as good with slower, softer songs, but she has mastered that as she’s gotten older. Their music is written specifically for live shows. They’ve won all sorts of awards for “Best Live Band” and things of that nature. Alright! Nice video! KARATE is a song about overcoming your personal inner demons. In the music video, they're fighting against masked figures which was later revealed that is also them. In this Download 2016 performance, it's been heavily raining so they have to delay their performance. Kobametal (their producer) even mopped the stage himself personally just for the sake of the performance. The equipments were covered with plastic to prevent malfunctions. The stage was slippery so they have to mop it to somehow reduce the slipperiness (sorry, dunno the right term). The girls payed it off with giving their full energy and amazing the crowd with their performance. To give you a but of insight on them, the three girls are Suzuka Nakamoto aka Su-metal (Vocal and dance), Yui Mizuno aka Yuimetal (Scream and dance), and Moa Kikuchi aka Moametal (Scream and dance). Su was singing most of the part and have lesser movements while Yui and Moa were providing harmonies and performing the whole choreography. They've been around for 10 years. They debuted in November 28, 2010. Su was known for her insane breathe and vocal control. In fact in this video, when she shouts "Everybody jump!" and starts singing right after, she was jumping while singing stably. There is also a rumor that she practice her singing while on a treadmill (just a rumor, still unconfirmed). She was the one in the middle. Yui was known for her precision on their dance steps. That's why she was also called Yuibot. She's always exact and on beat with their choreography. She was the one who was mostly on the left of the screen and has a black, and a bit wavy hair. Moa was known for her crowd interaction. She was the one who most likely come closer to the crowd. She also likes to have fun on stage with the other members (including the backing band). She was the one who was mostly on the right side of the screen. She has a brown and curly (or twirly? Dunno the exact termmmm). Now for their backing band, the Kami Band. In the BABYMETAL lore, they were summoned by the Fox God from death to play for BABYMETAL live performances. That's the reason with their face paints. They wear white burial robes. The term "Kami" means god or spirit in Japanese so basically they're gods of guitar, bass, and drums. The members who played here are Mikio Fujioka (black guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (pink guitar), BOH (6 string bass), and Hideki Aoyama (drums). The other members who didn't play here were Leda Cygnus (guitar), and Isao Fujita (guitar). They're session musicians and insanely good performers who always play their musical pieces clean. For my suggestion, since that it seems you love Su's vocals and the Kami Band, I recommend you their song "Rondo of Nightmare" with Mischief of Gods Intro Live at Budokan Black Night. This song don't have many high notes but this song presents Su's vocal control on her mid range. You will also love the Mischief of Gods Intro as it showcases the band's skills one by one. Excellent reaction, thanks for getting to BABYMETAL and for doing a live performance. It rained so hard at Download that year, their set was delayed 40 minutes because of it and for the equipment to be covered and water to be swept off the stage so they could go on and still do their choreo. BABYMETAL are a fusion of metal with Jpop aesthetics and choreo, so the girls are not trying to be 'metal' vocalists. This is one of the things that makes them unique and so good. Personally I don't like the constant growl/screamo vocals (its OK in small doses for parts of a song, but every band doing nothing but had me drift away from metal and sticking to my old favourites. BABYMETAL brought me back and a big part of that was because of the clean vocals). There is a certain quality and natural power in Su-metal's voice that cuts through or sits above all the guitars and drums etc of the instrumentals, so she can sing and not have to try to shout to be heard ... BABYMETAL was formed and developed around her for very good reason. She spoke recently about how she never stays still even in the recording studio so that she can decide oon the best breathing techniques to use to perform each different song as perfectly as she can while still doing strenuous choreo and how she uses different breathing techniques for venues at altitude where the air is thinner. She may be only 23 now but she has been lead vocalist with BABYMETAL for 10 years and was performing on stage from about the age of 7 or 8. She is a seasoned professional and works very hard at her craft - but she is also naturally very gifted and masters many different vocal styles within the BABYMETAL catalogue. Kami means god or spirit, so the Kami Band are the gods of guitar bass and drums, summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL in live concerts. As such they wore the traditional burial robes and corpse face paint (currently they wear black robes and masks). The demons in the official video were not related - they were the inner demons the girls (who were also the figures in white) were conjuring up to fight against - the song is about overcoming difficulty, fighting on when times get tough, when life knocks you down and it all just seems too hard.

FYI Babymetal created the genre called kawaii metal which means cute metal. the lead singer Su is the reason for Babymetal being created. the other girls and the band came later. the choreographer for Babymetal is one of the top in Japan. she was to do parts of the Tokyo olympics last year. the more you listen to Babymetal the more you will fall in love with them. also they do so many different styles of metal and is good at all of them. i think they have like 25 to 30 different styles they have done. you can not put Babymetal in a box since every song is different than the others.

This, I believe was their fourth song in their set. Note the stage floor . It was raining during the first two songs and had stopped just minutes ago, so they are performing in their heel on a wet stage.

I could watch this very performance forever on repeat and get massive chills and feel myself getting choked up every single time during the final minutes of the song. I always use this performance as evidence that music is the highest form of art! Music is engrained in our DNA and everyone loves the feeling of unity a performance on display in this video generates!

Great analysis & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。When I witnessed this song performed in the 2 shows on Jan. 19 /20 at Budokan (武道館), a legendary arena, I was very happy to hear that Su hit the high note at the end as flawlessly as ever. In a recent interview, Su said this Download 2016 was one of the most impressive festivals because of the heavy rain. The condition on the stage was so horrible and slippery that the 3 girls cautioned each other to mind their steps. (You can actually see Su slipping lightly at 03:29 in your video). She also said, however, the heavy rain worked as some kind of stage effects to make their performance look dramatic to the feverish audiences. Other than imitating her own younger voice for a couple of the oldest songs. : ) Would love to hear your opinion about any one of her solos. Not including covers, there are four, two each on the first two albums. 'Akatsuki' and 'Rondo of Nightmare' were on the first, self-titled album 'BABYMETAL'. 'Amore' and 'No Rain, No Rainbow' were on the 'Metal Resistance album. If you like metal and Japanese culture, you MUST check out Wagakki Band. They mix drums, electric guitar and bass with traditional Japanese instruments like koto, shamisen, shakuhachi, taiko, and traditional Japanese singing. They are awesome! Ikusa is a good place to start.

In this case it's Sadako, not Samara. ;-) Nice reaction! I'm glad you noticed the uniqueness of their approach to Metal. One might expect the combination of Japanese Kawaii-culture and Metal wouldn't work, but to say they make it work would be an understatement - it's absolutely ingenious. And the dancing and the theatrical elements add a whole lot to the entertainment value. The same goes for the crowd participation, of which you saw only a tiny hint. I can't think of a more complete package of entertainment. The white dresses are traditional Japanese burial robes, they have nothing to do with the official music video. They have worn them from the beginning until 2018, when they switched to black robes. I guess the intention is to add a visual aspect to the clashing of cuteness and Metal as well. I recommend listening to their song “Shanti Shanti Shanti” wich is less Metal and more like Rock mixed with middle eastern and Indian sounds. The lead vocalist Su-Metal does some interesting singing with her voice.
