This song reached #1 in 22 countries.One of Bachman's brother stuttered and Randy sang it that way once just to tease him. Everyone loved it and it was released like that. The drummer is also one of Randy's brothers who sadly recently passed away. A great Canadian band.

What I read or heard was, they made two versions of this song. First they did a straight version and then as a joke they did the version with the stuttering with Randy imitating his brother's speech impediment and when they sent it to the record label, they accidentally sent the wrong version. That's what I read anyway.

Also.... just since this comment had so many hits... I will add this as well... so Peg will hopefully see this!!! Randy Bachman.. started out with The Guess Who.. with Burton Cummings.. and once that band disbanded.. he started BTO as we all know them... with his brothers and Fred Turner... and well.. that band had huge success as well.. with a slew of hits!!!! Canadian content again for the win!!!! 🤩🥰🍁🍁🍁🍁

This song was never supposed to be aired. It was written to tease the lead singers brother on his birthday about his first time with a girl. The brother had a stuttering problem. Their record producer who was at the party said you have to record it. They said well we can clean it up and get rid of the stutter. The producer said no. To record it as it was. And now it is a classic.

Actually, their producer said to take out the stuttering part before they could record it and told Randy to sing it the normal way. After hearing it, it just didn't sound the same, so he said scratch that idea and lets do it with the stuttering lyrics. It was recorded that way and the rest is history..

1970-1980 I was 13-23 years of age. I am so humbly grateful to have grown up with all of this ICONIC music, but the thing is we really did not know how great is was or even the eventual impact it would have on this history of rock-n-roll. We just knew it was good, real good and that listening to it removed us from the pains of everyday life. As it turns out, the music was far greater than I could have ever imagined. I am now 67 years-old and I NEVER grow tired of listening to these artists of the 70's that made rock-n-roll history. I can't even fathom my life without this music. Must-listen: Taking Care of Business! Great reaction, as always!. TY

Bachman Turner Overdrive BTO Canadian band
@michaela8706

Bachman Turner Overdrive or BTO is a Canadian band named for the members, Brothers Randy, Robbie and Tim Bachman and Fred Turner. Randy, Robbie and Fred all sing in the group and all have great rock voices. Tim and Robbie both passed away last year 2023, RIP. Randy is on lead in this song. This song was an afterthought and was not originally going to be included in this album. It was done as a joke because his brother had a stutter. They liked what they heard and included the stutter in the song. I got to see them live in 1986 opening up for Van Halen/Hagar. Some other bangers by them, "Takin' Care Of Business", "Roll On Down The Highway", "Hey You", and "Let It Ride". Thanks and God Bless.

The pride of Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, BTO was the ultimate driving music back in the 70's! Drop down the top, throw in an 8 track tape of BTO's greatest hits and get on down the highway!. Robbie Bachman on drums was one of the 3 original brothers in the group along with Fred Turner on Bass. Robbie was a very underrated drummer and deserved much more recognition from the rock world for his great stick work. Sadly he passed away just a year and a half ago at the young age of 69, at his home in British Columbia, Canada. And yeah, bro! You need to react to that "Roll On Down The Highway" next. That live version such as this one.. Also "Let It Ride" is a monster smash! 🙂

In fact, my first HS girlfriend bought me the BTO album FOUR WHEEL DRIVE in 1974 at the end of my freshman year as a going away present (My family moved to a city 6 hours away, and there goes my first love). She was such a cute hottie...and I later found out that she ended up being voted Homecoming Queen for Senior Year of the HS I would have graduated from). Anyway, loved my BTO back then. Check out the song Not Fragile from the album Not Fragile the very first thing I ever learned how to play on bass when I was just 16 years old. NOT FRAGILE: Comin' to you 'cross-country Hoping boogie's still allowed You ask do we play heavy music Well, are thunderheads just another cloud? And we do Not fragile, straight at you Then we vanish to the night Still in your ears but out of sight Not fragile Yeah Don't think we feel hurt or wounded Or our egos showing through It's our world that's been disrupted And our strength reflects from you Well, it's true Not fragile, over you Try us when you're getting down Feelin' high or just hangin' round Not fragile Yeah The nights we travel in our lives Are hard and fast and give us drive We may seem distant most of the time But many thoughts are still on our minds Not fragile

'Takin Care Of Business' was probably BTO's biggest song. You Aint Seen Nothing Yet, and Let It Ride were also pretty big. Randy Bachman and brothers Tim and Robbie Bachman joined forces with Fred Turner to form this band. Randy had a pretty good pedigree having been a founding member of The Guess Who. He wrote many of the Guess Who songs as did lead vocalist /keyboardist Burton Cummings. I just watched Burton play about hours ago, it was fantastic. Two years ago Burton and Randy played here and did all sorts of Guess Who hits, BTO hits and some of Burton's solo hits. That was a great night too. The best time I have seen them was about fifteen years ago, when the original Guess Who did a tour. Their opening act was Joe Cocker. What a night.

Takin Care of Business, Roll on down the Highway, Let it Ride, some more Stellar Bangers from an Amazing CDN Band. FYI, when you did The Guess Who last week, Randy Bachman was the lead guitarist and co song writer for The Guess Who.

Biggest song "Takin' Care of Business", My Fave pure rocker "Roll on down the Highway" and sung by other singer Turner, great solo by Randy Bachman. RB was a feature member of the Guess Who before BTO.

It was sang with a stutter in honor of Bachman's brother, Glen, that did indeed stutter. So you were pretty on point BP.

Ahh, nice blast from the past - I saw them in the summer of 74, right after High School.

Love this song! Love BTO. Since people have already told you about the studder. Listen to Def Leppard, their drummer (Richard John Cyril Allen) lost his arm in a car accident and taught himself to play the drums with only one arm. And he was amazing!

"Roll On" is definitely one youre gonna wanna check out.. As a previously touring artist, you should get the sentiment immediately.
