Here I talk about an accident I previously had on the trail when I put my hatchet in my foot. I've also lightened up my pack to a 25 pound base weight. What a difference the lighter pack makes, especially when doing the 2.8km portage in this video. I also wipe up some good 'ol bannock...my favourite!
This is on a 5 day solo canoe trip with my dog Lucy in Algonquin park that I did the in middle of August. It was a great over all trip where I go through some tips & tricks, review some gear, try out a new tarp pitch, see beautiful wildlife and get through some thunderstorms in the night. I hope you enjoy it!
Much love,
Troy

Great to hear you extol the benefits of lighter gear -- no reason canoe tripping has to be an ordeal on the portages. Nice route you are on in these videos, that's for sure.

That's awesome, I love hearing those stories of people getting into backpacking and/or canoeing. That's success for me, it's one of the main reasons I started my channel. Many happy travels my friend.

Geez man, back in one of your 2011 videos I remember you saying you don't bring an axe / hatchet, due to something that happened. You said, 'I'll save that story for a different time.' lol 6 years later! Great videos man, glad to see you're back! Hope the goose is doing all right.

Maddy is doing great. Moving a little slower and a new level of chill but she's still loving life.

He Troy, good to see you're back. Had the same thing happening with a Wetterling hunter axe. Tired after a long day on the water in Sweden. Hit my finger after bouncing off a log. Resulted in a cut but that was pure luck. Chopping your finger off in the middle of nowhere is not wise... ;-) Made me weary of taking an axe with me... Perfect tool but capable of reuning your day!

Few things better than finding out your portage is shorter than expected!

If you paddle in the wake of Wintertrekker, that's a likely scenario. The courtesy of the North Country traveler.

Good to know! Give 'er 8 hours and see LOL

Haha, yeah. I wouldn't recommend that but if it's going to take you more than 8 hours to get out you may be able to reevaluate before you hit the road. I didn't even unwrap it, but if I had and I knew that it would be healed up pretty good, I probably wouldn't have headed home.

Yeah, you did the right thing. It doesn't make sense to take risks, especially when you're young. Now, I might have a better sense or evaluate it better, but it's not wise when you don't know what you're looking for!

Really enjoying the videos from this trip. I'm a big fan of the trangia also. What is your bannock recipe? It looks more biscuit like,.. hard to tell from the video, but it looked good :-)

I've had it for a few years now but it still feels kinda new. It's a 16' Souris River Prospector, great boat. Thanks for watching!

It was the middle of August. Such a great time to go with nice temperatures and very few bugs.
