Halibut fishing has been solid - Mary caught a 60 last weekend and the week before we caught some decent fish in the 35-50 range. Lots of little ones but we aren't really harvesting as many of those these days. Have you been fishing down at Coffman lately? If so, any luck down there?!? Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
@@CaptainZac yes, Taryna and I went to Coffman with two other couples. Fanatic trip, great people, caught lots of shrimp / prawns did solid on halibut when the weather would permit. Chelsea got a 70 and then we just seemed to get 20 to 35 pounders the rest of the time. Overall I'd say it was below average this year and salmon fishing was non existent. Super bad year for kings there and no coho or pinks showing up.
just got from sterling going for silvers. alaska is def. bad ass but i just gotta say ya'll using crazy big ass mono nets. you don't need that big of a net and go rubber. wont be digging all them hooks all wrapped up. took me longer to dig hooks than to catch the dang fish

This year I actually did switch to a net with a rubber bag and thus far have noticed fewer hook tangles. Untangling hooks from the net can be very frustrating when the fish are biting! Tight lines! Awesome catch and superb team work. Nice kings. Going up on cruise in Aug 2023, researching some fishing options- shore, salmon/boat, bottom...first stop Juneau. Any suggestions? Hi there thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this king salmon action! That's awesome you'll be visiting in August. The later in August you are here the better chance you'll have to catch coho salmon in the Gastineau Channel (where your cruise ship will dock). There is a beach a little south of the cruise ships on Thane road or you could go north to the McCauley Hatchery (DIPAC) where you can cast for cohos (spoons or spinners typically). You could catch dolley varden anywhere in the channel as well (target points where you can cast to deeper water). Good luck and tight lines! Captain Zac
Also - if you are looking for boat fishing the cohos will definitely be in the salt water at that time so the trolling bite should really good. Could always do a coho salmon and halibut combo for the full Alaskan fishing experience!

We didn't choose to be this close to a crab pot - this big king was stripping drag and it ended up going very close to a crab pot, which we luckily avoided with some precise boat maneuvering and fine net-work! Hi Gary thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this king salmon footage! King Salmon regulations are very regionally specific in Alaska. Generally speaking, much of the spring king salmon fishing has been heavily restricted or closed all together to promote greater numbers of salmon being able to make it to the rivers and spawn. In some places such as Juneau, there are hatchery runs of king salmon to supplement the population. The fishing on these hatchery runs tends to have less restrictions in terms of size and bag limits but the timing of these open seasons only occurs AFTER the hatcheries are confident that they've got ample returning fish for their brookstock. Thus, we can fish for king salmon during this special regulation season in June without impacting the overall king salmon population. Tight lines! Captain Zac
