In part 3 we head back to Basswood in search of giant lake trout while ice fishing and winter camping the BWCA for our second trip of 2023.
Somehow, January 15th, 2023 ended up being even better fishing than the day before; a day in which everyone in our party caught their personal best lake trout through the ice. The good fishing started early, with Joe catching a 31.5" lake trout first thing in the morning. I followed shortly after with a 33" BEAST, the largest I've ever seen pulled through the ice. Our day started out the same as the previous, two personal-bests to begin the day.
Fortunately, the action did not slow down! In the early afternoon, I followed up with another large lake trout in the 30" class! Immediately after sending my lake trout back to the deep, Joe hooked into a trophy 36" pike to round out an incredible day of fishing.
