Backpacking with Kids at Dinosaur Valley State Park

We got out for an overnight trip, staying at primitive campsite 6 at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, TX. Temps got a little colder than what we were expecting but everyone had a great time playing cards, frisbee, and catching an awesome Texas sunset!

It was funny watching her drink that out of a water bottle. We just got back from another overnight trip and I packed everyone's stuff and forgot the wine. I think she was a little disappointed.

fun trip, nice view and so cool your whole family backpacks/ even a water crossing, awesome! and the kids are already ready for longer hikes that is great... thanks for taking us along

Jiffy Pop? That's a great idea for a camping trip. That overlook sunset was nice.

We take Jiffy Pop on most of our car camping trips but it works great for backpacking too. I just don't take it solo because I can't eat that much. They need a mini size!

That looked like great family time. MSR Groundhog stakes work pretty good out there. Nice sunset at the overlook.

Man, I swear some of those sites are solid rock under an inch of dirt. We stayed at campsite 4 last night and I had a hard time getting stakes in. (Different type of stake)

It was in the 80s during the day. We actually just got back from another overnight and we're able to swim in the river. Really nice weather.

I need to visit that park, it always looks so nice in videos. And accessible to younger/newer backpackers too!

It's awesome for kids. And it's nice to have within 30 minutes of home. You and your family will have to make a trip out sometime. The Dinosaur tracks are neat to see at least one time.

Great video! I just took my ten year old son there about a month ago and had a lot of fun! Definitely going back with my other kids.

It's a great park for kids for sure. I enjoy the hiking but also love to just go swim or lay around in the river. There are definitely less people in areas if you walk farther up or down river a bit.
